My career path started when I was five years old. At five years old I wanted to be a fireman but switched to marines when I was ten. Prior to turning thirteen I did not want to be someone who uses ‘math’ all day and sits at a desk all day. In 2010 I joined a FLL team at Troy Christian Junior High School. I did not want to do this at first but after consistent encouragement from my father and mother, my father has a master’s degree and my mother has a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering, I participated in all of the team functions. While on the team I was exposed to SolidWorks and I appeared to have a talent for designing 3D models. I also was one of the few members tasked or voluntold to program the robot. I soon realized that not all engineers do math all day and I may have a talent for
I entered this position wanting to be an electrical engineer and left knowing I am destined to be a mechanical engineer. I knew I was destined to be a mechanical engineer when I was comfortable with designing and building workstations and my coworker’s comment of my talent for mechanical engineering. I also learned from the CEO that engineers are not limited by degrees or fields and he is living proof that with just a high school education and shop class experience anyone can work for a company or start their own. Because of this example I learned that engineers can adapt to their environment and that mechanical engineering is the foundation of all of the other engineering degrees such as aerospace and manufacturing. In 2015 my boss’s company was given a project that required the project to be completed and at the factory before payment is given to my boss’s company. This project turned into a time intensive and fund consuming nightmare that resulted in the cutting of all inefficient
Everyone at one point has to make a decision on what they want to be when they grow up. For me, that decision came rather unexpectedly and was a result of a new found interest due to self-discovery. It all began when I was around the age of 8 and I watched a documentary on aircraft. It documented all about planes, how they work and the science behind them. I was immediately captivated and gaining all that information as a young child really hit the spot in terms of a new found passion and interest that I could see myself later using. This passion stuck with me ever since as I have spent tons of spare time studying different types of aircraft and collecting model planes. It ultimately helped me with my answer to the question of what I wanted to be when I grew up as being an aeronautical engineer. It is not a career most would pursue, but it shows how self-discovery impacted me at a very young age and the impact is so log lasting that it has influenced most of the decision I make now in terms of courses I take at school and the extracurricular activities I am a part of. Without self-discovery, I was able to gain an understanding of where my interests lay, the abilities I have to acquire complex information and the feelings I had towards my new found interest and
In 2012 nearly 205,000 people were employed as a physical therapist in the United States. The average salary of a physical therapist in 2012 was $79,860 per year. The number of jobs is estimated to grow 36% from 2012-2022. This job of physical therapy involves many and very important tasks to fulfill the needs of their patients. It requires many different educational requirements and you must have strong people skills.
Thirty years ago when my parents left behind a comfortable life in South America to pursue opportunities that would truly change their lives, they had no idea they would be foreshadowing the recent events of my life. After working for two years as an engineer, I have realized something that I had suspected all along: I do not belong in the world of business or engineering. I need to be in a profession in which I can establish unique relationships with people by having a positive impact on their lives.
There will be a certain point in your life, when you will have to make a major life decision, from buying a car, to buying a house, to what career you want to have. These are all very hard decision to make and at times it can be stressful just thinking about them. Unfortunately, they are all part of life.
Which university will you attend? What are you planning on majoring in? Are you going to move out after high school? What are your career plans? Questions I hear daily, yet remain unanswered. This is just a small part of the struggles we teenagers face every single day. Balancing school, extra curriculars, work and a social life all while maintaining physical and mental health proves to be practically impossible these days. Although our parents try their best to make our transition into adulthood as seamless as possible, it happens in the blink of an eye. One day you’re being treated like a child and the next you’re expected to be a well rounded young adult able to provide for yourself and handle the weight of the real world.
One of the decisions many high school students confront is what they want to pursue in life; some options are work, study at a university, or pursue a technical education. Some students chose to study at a university to explore different areas of studies to pursue. Every area of study has its own requirements in order to be successful in that area. In my personal career search, as many students experience, have the sometimes painful selection of what I want to do as an adult. It is that I have two professions that I would like to pursue, Architecture and Engineering. Many aspects may help select that career, including personal preferences, career path, employment rates, etc. The academic path of each one will be discussed as a reference point for a selection of a career.
The career that I chose for my career research project was a football coach. When doing my career assessment for this project I discovered that I am a tactical learner. In the field I am currently in this field requires a lot of touching and carrying out certain plays for my team. This I believe is a really good match because this field requires a lot of physical endurance so I do believe that the learning styles assessment was on point with my career choice.
In this essay/report I will explain to the best of my abilities, my possible career path. I have wanted to be many things. In grade 1, I wanted to be a superhero, and that hope stayed out for a while. Later on, when I was 10, my brain started getting new ideas, exploring the world around me, thinking of other things aside form cartoons and I thought to myself, how in the world am I going to become a superhero? I started thinking of other jobs like firefighter, police officer, engineer, construction worker etc., etc. But then I decided it was no good. Then one day when I was watching an interview on TV, a firefighter was being interviewed and one of the questions was: How long did it take you to decide what you wanted to be? And he said a long time. Then I wondered how long a long time would be, I wanted to jump into the TV and ask the guy how long a long time was. Hmm, I wondered, how long is a long time and then I answered my question. “It’s going to be a long time ‘till it’s a long time, I’ve got nothing to worry about.” That question just flew off my mind until at the start of grade eight when I encountered this question again, and I answered it. It took a while and some research but I answered it. I want to be a Neurosurgeon when I grow up.
I am applying for a Masters in Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in Solid Mechanics to expand on my study of and experience with materials. I have thoroughly enjoyed studying Materials Science and Engineering as an undergraduate at UCLA. I now look forward to moving into graduate study in a field of engineering with a related, but different perspective. Materials Science and Engineering has allowed me to explore both materials and other fields within engineering, contributing to my strong interest in combining my study of Materials Science and Engineering with Mechanical Engineering. I have completed basic coursework in most areas of engineering, learning statics, thermodynamics, basic programming, and circuit design. This has provided a strong foundation to continue graduate study in other engineering disciplines. I
Career and Technical Education (CTE) has taken on many forms over the years. According to the Vocational and Technical Education paper: Current Trends, we’ve moved from the word vocational to career and technology education, professional-technical education, and workforce.
In high school my ideal career seemed to change from day-to-day. I tried working at a fast food restaurant, and ice cream parlor, a day care, but none of these led to any career decisions. I wanted to join the military so I took the ASVAB but I was not confident enough in my ability to make it through basic training so I gave up the idea. I wanted to be an architect so I applied for admission to the CAD program at ITT Technical Institute and was accepted. I was scheduled to start classes on June 12, 1989, but deep down what I truly wanted was to a wife and mother and the idea of getting out of Rantoul, Illinois did not hurt either. My unspoken desire came to the fore when I met my future husband in January of 1989. We were married on June 10, 1989, four days after my high school graduation and two days before I w...
Ever since I was a little girl, I have been dreamed of being a teacher. I wanted to decorate my own classroom, grade my students paper, and proudly display their colorful works of art on my walls. I planned on going to a small, private West Coast college to get my undergrad degree in child psychology and then later go on to an Ivy League grad school for my Ph.D in Bilingual Speech Pathology. But my sophomore year of high school, something changed. I started to fall in love with another equally as fascinating but completely opposite field of study, aerospace engineering. After my first plane ride earlier that summer, I started to research plane mechanics and safety technologies that are used by airlines in my free time. All of the concepts of
Up until about a pair months ago I totally felt like I was opening off in
