A regular cadet is how everyone begins at Hargrave Military Academy. Required leadership classes, a week long leadership camp and strong mentors opened several doors for me. I realized what it meant to be a leader and that I wanted to become one. As a sophomore I became squad leader of my platoon and my junior year I achieved my rank as First Sgt, the second cadet in the history of Hargarve to achieve this status as a day student. As a senior, I hold the rank of First lieutenant and the position of S5 on Battalion Staff. What does it mean to be a leader? judgement, dependability, initiative integrity and loyalty are a just some of the qualities that we are taught to guide our decisions and standards. Some of the qualities that
Everyone has their own ideas of what a leader is, what they might look like, act like or maybe what their accomplishments were. They, who are the leaders are the ones who have made a changed in the world and have shown people how true leaders are recognized as. They may have made mistakes in life, but they each take leadership and they each are unique, having their own personalities and an individual quality that makes them a true leader. A leader can portray attributes like courage: having bravery and overcoming fears, confidence: to believe in oneself, and action: to be able to accomplish amazing deeds for the benefit of family, friends and others.
Being a leader is no simple task. During my Eagle Scout project, I lead a range of people, from adults to youth. It was my job to make sure everyone was working and, that everyone was capable of doing their task. I had many issues doing this throughout my project because I am only one person and I can’t be everywhere at once. Thusly made being a leader a drudgery. But I had an incredible set of adults guiding me along the way, who taught me that being a leader was not doing everything myself, being a leader
To be a leader, you have to be authoritative, but not mean, and you have to keep a cool head, even in the hardest situations. You also have to be understanding, and
What is a leader? A leader is someone who takes command and leads an organization or group to success. Anyone can be a leader but in order to become a great leader you have to have to possess certain characteristics. I will be using Odysseus from the Odyssey isas an example of a leader who has suitable characteristics. You also have to know what harmful characteristics a leader may possess to determine if they are good leaders or not.
What does it mean to be a leader? Is it really just about leading people? Or is it something more? According to Daphne Mallory, "Leadership is the art of serving others by equipping them with training, tools and people as well as your time, energy and emotional intelligence so that they can realize their full potential, both personally and professionally."
I first encountered the significance of leadership in the tenth grade. Berry College the largest campus in the U.S. was in search of school ambassadors to serve part in a seminar known as HOBY. To get chosen you had to write an essay describing your leadership roles, and at that moment I thought that I did not have any. I literally did not know what it meant to be a leader. I had to brainstorm till I remembered going through one of the most difficult times of my life. The lack of understanding the English language became one of my biggest obstacles, and even caused me to repeat a chapter of my life. However, I did not cease; I continued to fight and strove to help others who were susceptible of following my steps. I used my story as an example, and hoped that it would make a difference in someone else’s life.
Leadership is being able to direct or guide other people by either your own actions or by actually guiding them into the right direction (Acumen). Inspiration to be a leader might come from many different areas like your family, friends, peers, or even teachers. My inspiration didn’t really occur to me until I started attending college in August 2013. In all actuality I never even thought of how to be a leader until I was in Mrs. Moore’s Perspectives class. I now have a desire to be a great leader, and the inspiration has come from Mrs. Moore, and my family. I am the first to attend college out of my family, so in a away I have already started leading my siblings in the right direction. Being a leader means inspiring others to pursue their dreams, and aspirations and helping throughout the journey to success. Being a leader has nothing with authority or being able to tell other what, and how to do things, it’s about having people who look up to you and want to follow your example.
Leaders, an individual that people look up to for direction, inspiration, and guidance in life. Passion, influential, reliability, a vision, etc. These traits along with many more, are the things that make leaders great and successful. Everyone has different personality traits that make us capable of being leaders in this world and I learned that throughout this course. Everyone is different, whether good or bad, ethical or unethical, everyone has a leadership style all their own. “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader (John Quincy Adams).”
Leadership is all about having the right amount of heart and determination to help make a difference in someone’s life. It takes certain qualities to be considered a good leader. A leader should want to help inspire others to make a change and to be the best that they can be. A true leader does not need to feel powerful, instead they empower those around them. Throughout my life I have come across various leaders who have made an impact on my life. It takes a very special person to inspire and touch people’s lives. Leadership is so much deeper than having power and bossing people around.
What is a leader? Educators and scholars have a definition and recommended traits suitable for the academic arena. Every organization has their own perspective into this matter. The United States (U.S.) military has Field Manuals and Regulations which explicitly describe who and what a leader is. I propose the following description of a leader. A leader is servant to those around them and to the organization. A leader is grounded in morality and possesses a strong values base. A leader has the ability to make those him better and more confident in their abilities. A leader has continued influence inside and outside their organizations. Most importantly, a true leader leaves behind a legacy that stands the test of time. Retired (Ret.)
I soaked up all the information I could about leadership from my peers and guest speakers, but most of the information came from my band director. I learned many things that year about leadership and how to work hard to achieve my goals. First and foremost I learned that being a leader has little to do with giving out commands or instructions. Being a leader really means to help lead others to their full potential through encouragement an constructive criticism. To be a leader, one does not require an official title. You can be a leader no matter who you are or where you are in life. Being a leader means leaving an impact with those around you. Showing modesty, compassion, responsibility, and workmanship all at the same time. To be a successful leader, one must first lead by example. These are only some examples of the the knowledge I attained on leadership throughout that year. In that year I also learned how to work hard and continue to pursue my goals and aspirations. I gained new work ethic and appreciation for the resources provided for me. I learned to branch out and try new things and ask questions. However, most importantly, I learned how to persevere through the bumps and challenges in order to truly achieve my goal. That year after applying for a second time, I achieved my goal in getting into the leadership program, and had my family not been relocated I would
Working with my fellow leaders day and night, I began to form close friendships with each of them. We were all from different parts of the country and different battalions; meaning we all had our own approach on how to lead the recruits. We had to learn to work together and play off each other’s strengths and weaknesses in order to ensure a successful training for the recruits. Through the hard work put into the training, both the recruits and staff cadets were able to form lifelong friendships. Although the training is done, I still work hard to maintain relationships with my fellow staff cadets and friends who have helped me to become a better leader and person.
A leader is described as a person who guides others and has authority and influence over others. They work to influence others into meeting certain goals. There is no right or wrong definition of a leader and there is no recipe that ensures effective leadership. Successful leaders have a good balance of vision, influence, and power. Leaders gain their authority from their ability to influence others to get the work done; because of this, anyone has the potential to be a leader. (Finkelman. 2012, p15)
There are many different things I think of when I think of what leadership means to me. My idea of leadership is to be able to inspire others, get them excited to do something, motivate them and set an example to others. I also think that showing respect to others is a key part of leadership. You don’t just need leadership qualities, but you need to be a successful leader. To me being a successful leader is being able to have people follow you and not disrespect you. If you are a great leader your followers start to respect you more. To be a leader you also need to have certain qualities like being sociable, intelligent, have patience to deal with situations. A leader needs to be motivated or they will be a failure. I think I show leader ship all the time inside and outside of school. “A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way (John C. Maxwell).
What is leadership? Leadership is defined as a process by which a individual will influence others to obtain goals. Leaders will guide, direct motivate, or inspire others. Leadership is defined by not only traits but actions as well. Leaders are inspirational, trustworthy and charismatic. Many people may think a manger is leader. Although leadership and management go hand in hand, they are not the same. Everyone has their own beliefs about what characteristics an effective leader should have. To me, communication skills, critical thinking skills, and having a vision are few characteristics of becoming an effective leader. A leader is not only born, but made. Some are born as leaders or some are made to be leaders.
