The seven habits of a highly effective leader
Habit 1: Be proactive
Summary: Take action in your life. Take responsibility for your actions in addition to prioritizing where you spend your time and energy. Proactive people focus on what they can control. Proactive people put their time and energy into their circle of influence.
Being proactive is an essential part of being successful as a college student. As a student I try and get my assignments done as soon as possible. A huge part of being proactive, is the ability to communicate effectively. Being proactive can help to provide order and alleviate some of the stress I deal with from being an athlete, athletic training hours, and schoolwork.
Habit 2: Begin with the end in mind
Summary: Have an end goal

It is important to identify what my end goal is. Knowing what my end goal is for various aspects of my life helps me create goals that will lead me to my end goal. I think to myself what are some things that I can do daily to help guide me towards this goal. I think being organized can really help you identify what is important and not important.
Habit 3: Put first things first
Summary: Try to prioritize your life. Ask yourself what needs to be done first. Ask yourself what’s important and what is not important.
Prioritizing my life into what needs to be done first and what can wait is something I do everyday. I try to do the most important tasks I have to do ahead of time to alleviate stress. The less pressing tasks I still get done, but tend to take more time to do them. Time management is something that is extremely important in my life. I have to take into account when things need to be done by, so that I can plan when I am going to complete these tasks.
Habit 4: Win-Win
Summary: In order to achieve the best result sometimes it helps to work with other people to achieve a common goal. Everyone wins instead on just one group our
... person and we choose our own destiny, we can't sit around and blame anyone if we feel depressed or if our lives seem a mess. We need to be strong and follow our dreams, quit acting stupid and change our behaviors by taking leaps and risks. It may be hard and scary at times but that's all part of life and we have to work for what we want. Dr. Laura Schlessinger states, "Once we muster the courage to take responsibility for our own problems and to tolerate the discomforts of risk, the possibilities for personal growth and joy are limitless (223).If you are prepared to hear the truth of how we let certain behaviors ruin our life and ready to make changes to them, than a good place for you to start would be by reading this book.
Exemplary leaders have a profound and positive influence on the commitment and performance of their followers. In order to achieve and sustain success exemplary leaders have to effectively communicate a clear vision, cultivate a team environment and establish cooperative goals. Coach Boone displayed several actions and behaviors that represent The Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership.
The goal in this case is to be a conscientious leader. An evaluation was done to determine the strengths and weaknesses of an individual regarding their ability to communicate in a leadership capacity. The areas reviewed were:
1. There are numerous methods, characteristics, and motives for proper leadership. In my opinion, leadership is the overall process of unifying a team toward completing a common goal. Several key people in my life influenced this definition and how I lead.
Put First Things First For an organization to work in an effective and efficient manner, business managers must possess good interpersonal and communication skills. The presentation style of the managers must be different from others and he should be able to sell himself in public. Stephen Covey describes in his book "Seven Habits of Highly Effective People" the special situation that we are in and gives us ways to get out and to find our own way to our desired goal. The third habit wants us to do first things first, meaning that we must learn to differentiate between what is important and what is urgent. Building relationships and delegating in an organization remains one of the primary aims of an effective business manager. However, the manager should have the abilities to distinguish between the important and the urgent things, if he is to enhance the quality of team based organizations. (1) Managers who apply interpersonal and communication skills effectively are cooperative members of groups in which they participate. The importance and urgency of a situation is dependant upon time management, an essential factor in making interpersonal and communication skills, in the third habit of Stephen Covey. The habit is about how to organize our time based on priorities. Urgent tasks have short-term consequences while important tasks are those with long-term, goal-related implications. Work towards reducing the urgent things you must do so you'll have time for your important priorities. Flagging or highlighting items on your To Do list or attaching a deadline to each item may help keep important items from becoming urgent emergencies.(2) Thus, The main reason for managing time is to provide structure to one's life and, in turn, piece ...
Make a list of tasks you need to finish each day, then rank them in order of importance. Give yourself permission to finish only the most important tasks today, and let everything else go for another day or delegate them to helpers.
come with a goal in life - to succeed on it. With that kind of mentality I

In other words, when you have a clear purpose, you can rank what the most important thing to do is. Having a clear purpose is to make life easier because the clear purpose is a life direction. To demonstrate, if you know that your purpose is being a doctor, you may especially focus on studying biology. If you do not have a purpose, you may study everything, such as studying drawing in order to be an architect and study languages in order to be a translator at the same time. The result of lacking your purpose in this case is wasting time. However, if you want to be a doctor, but you also like drawing, you can rank that studying biology is more important. You may learn how to draw in your free time. In addition, as Christensen said the students at HBS had little thought about the purpose of life. He also warned that “life only gets more demand”. The more you grow up, you may not have time to concern about what a strategy of life is. To analyze, if you do not have a clear strategy, your live may be empty, meaningless and boring. In summary, a clear plan directs about what to do. When you have a clear purpose, you can do your actions
In order for a leader to be a leader he/she must begin with the assumption that you are the one who matters most. As a leader you have to possess that level of confidence in yourself that you are capable of leading yourself “before you can lead others”. And when you develop this belief then you are better able of affirmative influence “on others”.
This was not as easy a read for me. I suppose I am a victim of my generational upbringing, in that, I feel the need to be informed in an entertaining manner. This book has good information, but I had to continually check my focus. Those times when I was truly drawn in were the times when the writer was relating back to a story from his life or others and how it worked in to the particular habit he was teaching at that time. That being said, the following areas are where I believe I can use to make myself and my team better.
Having good time management skills is one the best things that I can work on as a college student. Not only
Looking at my own approach to time management I have noticed that I am well organised and good at prioritising tasks and jobs. When I log onto my computer to start my shift I am sent down numerous jobs, each job is different and has different deadlines for attendance and completion. I plan my day based around the date and time deadlines of the jobs and also the locations of the jobs. I then schedule the most effective order of completing the jobs, putting high priority jobs at the top of my list and grouping sites that are geographically close to each other. By effectively planning my day I keep a focused attitude towards my work and I have time to think about tasks and situations, rather tha...
The First habit is to be proactive, or “proactivity”, it is explained that being proactive means that we as humans are responsible for our own lives. Our performance in life is up to us and is not the result of things that have happened or experiences but the choices that we choose to make and how we view our lives as a whole. It is our obligation to choose how we respond to the experiences in our lives. Take for instance, Viktor Frankl, he was a prisoner of the death camps in Nazi Germany. Frankl had terrible experiences such as being tortured, starved, being naked, and losing almost his whole family. At the time while all of this was going on, Frankl decided he was not going to let all of this to affect him. He became aware that he had the freedom to choose his own response to what was happening and the meaning to all of it which then in turn gave him self-fulfillment. As I look at the statement “What I do is largely controlled by actions of others”, I am certain the author of this book would most definitely disagree with this. The reason I say this because...
We observed the occurrence of synergy as we worked together with a significant deal of cooperation between members of the team. Previously, none of us were found to be dominant in our specific divisions and there are many groups in the presentation with exceptional skills to succeed. But, coming together in this group, we are able to succeed from other groups in presentation while demonstrating the significant synergetic group work. We were not able to win on individual level but our contribution to the group has combined to influence our performance positively and letting us achieve our goal of winning maximum marks. It is important for us to note that we would not be able to gain success in this presentation on individual basis but contributions from each of us combined to let us achieve our goal of gaining maximum marks in this task. We met every two weeks whenever we had our employment classes and these meetings were productive. These meetings went well but they could have been more productive if we had structured a proper schedule for maximising our meeting time. While considering the potentials of our group, our coach informed us that our group can only win if we want to and this caused a positive reaction with the confidence. None of us had any issues of ego and self-centeredness but instead we all wanted our group to perform outstanding. We consistently possess
