For this event, there was a business fair that included many of the major businesses in the area. The minimum for the extra credit was to talk to three different companies, however, I chose to talk to nine. I talked to J.B. Hunt, 3M, Cargill, Valspar, Best Buy, and a few other companies. For each company, I would walk up to the table, introduce myself, and ask them to tell me a little bit about their company. Once they were done with their pitch about their company, we would then ask each other some more questions. They would typically ask what year I was in for school, what my major was, and what I wanted to do when I was done with college. From there, they would typically relate one of these answers to how I would fit in with their company. I then would ask if they had any internships available for the summer and they would typically either hand me their card or tell me to check their website for the application. The basic style for each of these companies varied, however, the type of information they would give was all pretty similar. Also, some company employees were more forward and expressive while others hung back and waited for me to ask most of the questions. Each person was pretty unique …show more content…
which made the overall fair more interesting. An added plus to the fair were the handouts that each company gave. Some gave more informational handouts, others gave out products, and some gave out things such as pens that had the name of the company on it. Overall, it was a very informational fair. When reassessing my experience at the fair, I found that there were six major take aways. First of all, it seems as though finance is a major that I can use in just about any job. Also, many companies noted that one of my major skills and wants in a job, negotiation, is something that I can use in just about any career. Thirdly, I noticed that when I introduced myself first it seemed to impress the employees from the company more. Next, the fact that I was a freshman, but technically a second semester sophomore seemed to impress them. Also, the fact that I knew exactly what I want for a career and how to get there seemed to impress them. Finally, it was interesting that my most successful conversation with one of the companies was when I told 3M a fact about sticky notes that they did not know. All of these are helpful when thinking about the possibilities for my future and when preparing for an interview. I am currently planning on double majoring in Finance and The Sociology of Law, Criminology, & Deviance. The first of these majors really seemed to interest many of the companies. Many of them brought up that there are many jobs that deal with finance and that having it as a major could make me a valuable asset to many companies. A couple of the companies commented on my second major, but it seemed as though a majority were more hung up on my Finance major. Of course, a major reason for this is because they are more focused on hiring people who know business rather than law. However, it was still reassuring to see that a Finance degree can help me find a job at almost any company. The second major take away was that negotiation is also used in basically any work environment. Often, when I told the company employees that I wanted to be a corporate lawyer, they would ask me why. My answer to this question was that I love the idea of negotiating big deals. Many of them would then tell me about how often they make negotiations and how it was an integral part of many of the jobs within their company. Yet again, they seemed very inclined to point out that I could fit in well within their company. The next major take away was that I noticed was the difference in reaction of the employee when I introduced myself first. In the few times that they asked me what my name is first or introduced themselves first, the rest of the conversation seemed more awkward. However, when I introduced myself first, then the conversation was more natural and they seemed more impressed by me. This shows me how important little things are when people possible future employers. You only have one chance to make a first impression and this event showed me that it is a very good thing to start off on the right foot. The next big take away from the day was the fact that I took college credits in high school.
When people ask me what year I am in college, I tell them that I am a freshman, but due to the credits I took in high school, I am technically a second semester sophomore. Walking away from my high school with this many credits was pretty normal. However, I have learned that this is not the case with a lot of people when they graduate high school. Knowing that this could possibly be an impressive quality, I mentioned it to the different company employees. Many of them seemed rather impressed that I am further ahead than the typical freshman. This situation gave me a good chance to test this theory and now I know that I should mention it when I am in an actual interview
session. Also, the fact that I knew exactly what I want for a career and how to get there seemed to get their attention. I could tell them what majors I was doing, where I wanted to go to law school, and what I wanted for a career. Many of them were intrigued by my ambition to be a corporate lawyer and many of the mentioned that their company does not out source for corporate lawyers. One woman, said she worked with them a lot on contracts and their ability to understand every aspect of a contract really impresses her. Hearing them discuss my future career was really interesting and allowed me to really picture what my part in a company could be like. Finally, I learned that knowing a random relatively unknown fact about a company’s product can increase the success of the conversation. When I was talking to 3M, I asked them if they knew how stick notes work. This is one of my favorite fun facts that I like to tell and it seemed appropriate to tell them if they did not already know. They said that they did not know. So I told them that stick part of the sticky note is actually full of the tiniest little bubbles. When you press down on these bubbles, they pop. When the bubbles pop, the sticky note sticks to whatever you put it on. The guy at the table was actually so impressed by this that he decided to give me a free shopping planner (they had one out for show, but not to hand out). We talked for a little while longer and it seemed like a very successful conversation where all of us walked away learning something. I learned a lot from this event. It was basically a bunch of short interviews, but also like a question and answer session. It was the perfect time to test out some of the things I want to try when applying for jobs in the future and learn about where I might possibly want to work. Overall, it was a fantastic learning experience.
Last but not least, I will have a list of question ready. Due to the lack of time in job fairs, it would be for the best if I have prepare what I want to ask them
At Community Boards, the skills and disciplines that I learned was that I was able to handle clients through phone calls more effectively and in a manner in which I can be neutral. I also learned to be very patient with some clients over the phone, where some phone calls had spent over an hour of the client’s time talking to me about their issues at their residence. I was able to cultivate the skill of being able to use different communication styles in order to deal with certain people and their styles, for often I would have to deal with people that very emotional, because of their situation, whether they be angry, sad, or hopeless, I had to alter my style of communication to accommodate their needs and try to calm them down. Although I
I went to the school board meeting on March 21, 2016 in Kanawha. The following people were at the council: Wayne Kronneman, Leah Deutsch, Ryan Hiscocks, Ryan Johnson, Jay Burgardt, Mona Buns, Gary Chizek, Todd Hammer, and Jon Harle. The others were mainly community member which included teachers, principals, parents and supporters. Some of the West Hancock staff included Mr. Peterson, Mrs. DeHart, Mrs. Bruns, Mr. Francis, Mrs. Gast and others. The other people who were there were parents and other community members. The first part of the meeting was the revision of the budget and presentation of the budget. This was given by Wayne Kronneman. He explained the budget of this year and how it compared to last years. Also he also talked about the budget for next year. After that they had a discussion with the

At the time of interview give a brief introduction of yourself as well as company, give time for answering questions and after interview summarize the things.
When I began this class, I had never had any experience or knowledge on non-profit organizations. After reading the chapters and doing the project for CHASI, I began to realize that non-profit could be my niche. I chose to pursue a degree in criminal justice, because of the many job possibilities, but I never would have imagined non-profit being one of those possible careers for myself. I was raised under the philosophy from both sides of my family, that if you give, you will get in return, I believe this so much and I have witnessed it personally throughout this semester. I have given my time and effort to raise money for people, who I don’t know and who are less fortunate than some, and although I may not receive money or items back in exchange, I get to feel a sense of pride, which is more than enough. So when I went to the nonprofit career website and looked through the job listing, there were many that I was interested in but only a couple that I could actually see myself doing.

Last Wednesday I attended the Major and Minor fair located in the Library Concourse. There were representatives throughout the whole room for each major and minor. This was a great opportunity for students who are still undecided or undeclared officially with there major. Before I attended Utica College I had my mind set on majoring in psychology until I started to venture out and research other majors that caught my eye. I changed my major right before coming to UC so that my classes wold correspond with Criminal Justice so that I can learn more about it. Even though it is only the first semester I am loving everything that I have learned about what it means to be a Criminal Justice major.
Going into the career fair I kept my expectations at a minimum due to my lack of experience with attending career fairs. Upon arriving at the career fair I was blown away by the massive turnout and large variety of companies. As I walked around the fair I was able to talk to three different employers. I spoke with representatives from KeySource Medical, Inc., GBQ, and LBrands. I was able to gain insight on what KeySource Medical and GBQ were since I had never heard of them before, and I was able to learn more about LBrands even though I was already familiar with the company. I would say that each of the conversations I had went very well and all of the representatives were understanding of me being a first year, but were eager to inform me
This critical reflection seeks to provide an in-depth analysis of how the entrepreneurial tools taught throughout this semester has assisted me in developing insightful information towards my contributions of the business plan. The process allowed me to identify, clarify and test the credibility of my personal insights. Entrepreneurial tools being assessed are customer experience mapping, questioning and idea networking. The paper started off with a detailed introduction of the actual product that my group have finalised on, then followed by comprehensive evaluations of the tools. Lastly, it ends off with a reflective conclusion with valuable learning points. All in all, it improved the quality of my contribution towards the project.
The Career Fair is a vibrant networking opportunity. I can explore positions I could pursue with my major, increase my chances of interviewing with an employer, receive useful advice from company recruiters and develop my network to secure the future I want and discover the possibilities. It is important for me to attend the career fair, it really helped me to get to know the recruiters and people from the company and most importantly I learned more about the company itself. I can begin to discover whether the company is a good fit for me. It can’t hurt to get that extra exposure and when it comes to interview decisions and job offers I will be remembered. When I met the recruiters of Nielsen, Microsoft, Cisco and many more, they all seemed satisfied with their jobs overall, proud of the organization they work for, and loves the opportunity to accomplish something worthwhile. I feel that the word “innovative” describes these organizations very well. It is very important that I really keep in touch with them. Sending thoughtful follow-up emails really sets you apart from the rest of the
Central Idea: I want to educate you on what prospective employers look for during an interview and what they expect from a potential employee.
For years I have observed the business field and have always had an interest in USC. Being a native of Southern California and having lived in the area my whole life, I have always viewed USC as the most prestigious academic institution in all of California. As I have grown older, my desire to immerse myself in the campus and the business field have peaked. Attending USC Summer School will allow me obtain a first person experience and gain advice and expertise from professionals in the field. The day trips and guest speakers would allow for a first person experience into the life of a businessman along with the proper keys and steps necessary to achieve success. In addition, I would like to become more familiar with the campus as I plan on applying to become a first-year student in the fall.
This summer’s course in ‘Business and Society’ was a great opportunity for me to learn more about myself, my perspective of business, the role of government in society, policy makers and most importantly the views of the stakeholders. For the spring semester gone and this summer session almost all classes were tied into my major, giving me a better understanding on what I want out of my degree. My major here at Marymount Manhattan College is Finance and this class has surely helped me in figuring out, the workings of ‘big business’ and its impact on stakeholders. This course has helped me understand why many laws, at one point to me sounded absurd, but are in place to protect both industry and stakeholder. I never thought communication was such a priority in the business world until taking this class. From newly learnt material I see communication as a
I will fund my exhibit through donations and sales. I would reach out to the community, explain my exhibit and ask for donations, but I would primarily generate revenue through selling items related to the exhibit like prints of the works being shown, creative posters, key chains, t-shirts and other mementos. Additionally, I would have bake sales and fairs and other activities of a similar nature.
