HOW TO SUCCEED IN AN INTERVIEW
Specific Purpose: To demonstrate to my audience how to present yourself as a viable candidate for employment during a job interview.
INTRODUCTION
I. Opening Statement: At some point in everyone’s life they will be interviewed for a job opportunity. This experience can be daunting if you are not well prepared, or lack the knowledge needed to present yourself as a desirable candidate for the job.
II. Central Idea: I want to educate you on what prospective employers look for during an interview and what they expect from a potential employee.
III. Credibility Statement: I have gathered a lot of information from two hiring managers with Human, Darin Conn and Todd Gupton as well as pieced together tips from a few websites regarding successful interview practices.
IV. Review: Having the ability to present yourself as a prized commodity is paramount to getting the job you are after.

BODY
I. Personal appearance is the most important aspect of the interview.
A. Dress for success!
1. We all know that first impressions are invaluable.
2. If you are dressed inappropriately or not well groomed it gives the impression that you are unprofessional and detracts from your value as an employee.
3. Do not wear a lot of perfume or cologne. Some people are allergic to those types of things.

II. Knowledge is power and you want to enable yourself to seem knowledgeable about the industry you want to work in.

1. After the interview is completed stand up and make sure your good-bye handshake is just as firm as it was going in. It shows you are just as confident leaving as you were going in.

II. Central Idea: There are a lot of factors that go into getting hired by a company. The interview is the opportunity for you to market yourself as a valuable asset that would be good fit inside the company you are seeking employment with.

The employment interview has been the key element used for determining a candidates’ worthiness in filling an open position. Organizations rely on employment interviews as a way to predict the future job performance and work-related personality traits of interviewees. Over the years validity of the employment interview has been under scrutiny, so it is no wonder that is has been the topic of many research papers. It is important to choose clothing that presents yourself as a professional. Common clothing apparel to avoid include: jeans, tennis shoes, t-shirts, hats, flip flops, or any clothing that has a brand name or message/logo on it. Also you need to try and avoid ill-fitting clothing as it may become a distraction during your interview. Clothing items that have holes in them should be avoided by any means necessary. This includes any designer jeans, worn out jeans, or shirts with various holes. The last thing that you want to do is to show up to the employer’s office dressed as if you belong on a beach somewhere instead of an office setting. Showing up wearing unprofessional clothing could almost certainly guarantee that you will get rejected and not get the job opportunity. Bright and bold colors should be avoided unless intricately incorporated into wardrobe. A safe and suitable wardrobe for men would include a suit, blazer, and/or a sweater with a button down.
