Fewer classes a day may be better for a High School. Block schedule would be a solution for any school to change the way they organize their school day. It may be in the classes offered to select students. It may include the extra-curricular activities that they will offer. They also will vary in the ways that they will schedule a school day. They will choose the start and end times of the days, the time for each class periods, and they might even suggest a staggered schedule where you may take a class every other day. In choosing the type of scheduling system, they must understand the different classes that they offer and how the different system may benefit a class or create difficulty for the class. Block scheduling had a couple of different forms that it might take. One form of block scheduling is a ‘4x4’ block scheduling system. In this system, it will shorten a year long class to a semester class by having four, 90 minute daily periods. Another form of a block schedule that is frequently used is the ‘A/B’ block schedule. This, also referred as the ‘alternating schedule’, uses eight ninety minute period in alternating form. This would lengthen the class period in the day, but limit to four class periods a day rather than eight a day. A student could take eight classes and will alternate the days in which the student would take the class. There are more forms of block scheduling, but they take the basic format of either the ‘4x4’ block schedule or the ‘A/B’ block schedule. This choice is because they do not think that it will work and it exploits some of its disadvantages in block scheduling. For teachers that instruct composition courses, these disadvantages will hit them personally and will create problems for them teaching the course. A huge overall disadvantage is the overall time that the teacher has to teach the course. The overall class time for block scheduling is shown to be less than the traditional scheduling system which has shorter class periods per day. This will create problems for the teacher because it gives them less time to correct papers, or assign new papers to the students. This may create problems in becoming behind in grading and may not be done grading all the assignments at the end of the year or semester. A block may create problems in planning for every class period in a composition course. With the longer times in each class period, the composition teachers need to plan for more material in every other day. To fill a 90 minute class period may be difficult to fill up most of that time, and for the instructors, they need to plan for these class periods every other day. This would also be exceptionally hard for the teacher if they have more than one class that they teach. A bigger issue would lie if the teacher may be absent for a day. This would
