In my 12 years of practice, I have been employed with a wide variety of law firms. When I decided to open my own practice, I started thinking about the qualities that make up the best law firms. In determining the best law firms do you include things such as employee benefits, firm culture and employee turnover rates? Or do you focus on the qualities that affect a law firm's most precious commodity - the client? My take on this is that the best law firms employ quality attorneys and staff with the highest of ethical standards and the desire to fight within their ethical bounds for their clients.
One key factor in having a successful law practice is an effective leader. A good leader will have a vision for the firm's direction, a commitment to serving its clients, and a desire to find like-minded people that believe not only in the clients, but the brand of the firm. I have found

When attorneys at these firms meet with clients, it's never about sharing the attorney's successes. Rather, it's listening to your clients concerns, determining their overall goal through representation by the firm, and showing empathy towards their situation. Many attorneys look at their clients and see dollar signs. They look at the opportunity to bill or the total fee they will earn on a contingency for a huge settlement. These attorneys fail to recall one of the most basic ethical consideration of attorneys, acting in the best interest of the client. Because at the end of the day, all the billable hours in the world won't make a practice successful If you don't satisfy and take good care of your clients. Firms with this mindset often have high turnover rates because they make billing THE priority. They burn their attorneys out and bring in brand new attorneys and start the process fresh with them. This can easily lead to dissatisfaction by clients. They may not know from one month to the next which attorney is representing

“Before you are a leader, success is all about growing yourself. When you become a leader, success is all about growing others” (Welch). Leadership is inspiring others to learn more, do more, and become more. Ineffective fail to possess certain characteristics which effective leaders do. Willingness to help others, selflessness, and strictness; these are the qualities of a both good and effective leader. Without these qualities, leadership would fail and being a leader would mean nothing.
When discussing any triumphant or flourishing organization or institution, the main attribute which will always surface when examining the true fabric of what allows a particular organization or institution to excel, will always be leadership.
Many definitions exist on what leadership is. Despite the many differences in definitions, they all describe the leader as someone who influences others. Leaders transform individuals around them allowing them to work to their full potential. In order for a leader to be successful they must be knowledgeable, self- confident, and effective communicators. These characteristics will create a positive workplace environment that results in an increase in productivity. Leadership is not defined by titles or salary. Leaders must acquire their skills and continue to improve on them through learning. Good leaders provide a vision and help motivate others to make that vision happen. The leader must be effective and successful in creating a strong institution.
The fact that interested me the most about the paralegal profession is that paralegals are not limited to working in a law office. There are a number of other career opportunities for paralegals. Some opportunities are in law-related fields, and other opportunities are in non-legal related fields; however, the opportunities are for jobs in which a paralegal education provides useful training. Paralegal skills intertwine with many other professions. In addition, I think that paralegals are underpaid because paralegals have many duties, responsibilities and pressures. Paralegals are attorneys’ right hand person and attorneys rely heavily on paralegals’ many skills.
Leadership. What does it take to be a successful leader? An exceptional leader is able to captivate their followers and lead them to accomplish a task that will, overall, help the cause. William Bradford’s leadership was far superior than John Smith’s because of differences in values, captivating followers, and the response that colonists had to the leaders.
The best leaders provide care that is of high quality through evidence based practice. The effective leader also is able to allocate resources appropriately, hold others accountable for their work, and incorporate new policies and evidence based practices (Morgan, 2010). Leaders need to be able to provide direction when it is required and step in to teach when they see someone doing something incorrectly or not at all (Morgan, 2010). These characteristics show their dedication to excellence
In order to survive in such a competitive global market, it is essential for all kinds of firms to hire effective leaders to maximize their interest and keep operate successfully. From the leadership class, which is taught by Dr. Karen McDaniel, I have learn what leaders are required to become effective and successful and how to build myself as a successful leader.
For starters when it comes to lawyers it’s not always winning every case that you come across, but it’s the matter of representing your client in the best possible way that you can, it is keeping their confidentiality agreement, provide them with the best options as possible and keeping an open and honest
If they choose not to do their jobs by the ethical standards, they will either be disbarred or charged criminally. The decisions of the attorneys often influence their clients so it is very important that they figure out how to balance the needs and problems associated with each client to the ethical standards of the criminal justice system
The American Bar Association officially endorses the theory that “preserving client confidences ordinarily serves the public interest because people are more likely to seek legal advice, and thereby heed their legal obligations, when they know their communications will be private” (Asociation, 2015). Confidentiality is highly valued in the legal system through the courts’ acknowledgment of privileged communications between attorney and client. This means that an individual cannot be forced to testify on any information exchanged during these communications. Confidential information is to remain confidential throughout the representation, and thereafter, even after the death of the client. Along with the basic principle of maintaining the privacy of client information, a key principle of ethically maintaining confidentiality is that the information not be used to the detriment of the client, but rather only to advance the client’s interests. Even information gained about the client after the representation has concluded is to be kept confidential. With this privilege allowing individuals to basically conceal certain facts, it is important to understand the circumstances under which this can be
One of the criticisms of an active moral approach to a lawyers legal ethics is that a shift in focus will ultimately lead to clients refusing to take unpopular clients and causes. The access to legal representation is necessary due to the nature of our adversarial system. The concern then is by welcoming moral engagement, will a tyrannical legal profession neglect to represent those who have performed unethical acts? Would a partisan approach, in which everyone is afforded legal representation, in fact be more ethical? Perspectives on ethics and morality are unquestionably diverse across society; and so too will they be across the legal profession.
When lawyers are adept in terms of business matters, they can use this knowledge to understand the client’s market and the different legal developments affecting the business world. By understanding these legal developments which create business issues such as your clients’ competition and how their market is developing, the quality of advice will be enhanced as your client will be relying on your knowledge of the legal and business sector to help them solve their legal issues. A commercial approach also helps lawyers to create alternative motives for providing clients with advice as the demand for legal services increases and its provision becomes more profitable there will be more potential consumers, giving lawyers more discretion to choose the cases which will conform to their own beliefs and attitude to justice and which they have a genuine interest. This will also allow lawyers to make trusting rapports with their clients, improving the standard and legitimacy of the advice whereas, if there was no commercial approach taken and no corporate foundation, lawyers may give morally conflicting legal advice to increase their revenue, especially due to the legal aid cuts which is reducing the amount of work available to lawyers. Creating an emphasis on commerciality will also make lawyers more likely to share the risk and engage more closely with
There are so many aspects to being an effective leader, yet they are so easy to achieve but some leaders do not care to. Effective leaders must motivate, value their employees, solve problems, and be accountable. An effective leader is said to know the organization, the purpose,
People always talk about how important it is for companies to have a good leader, someone who not only keeps the blue numbers, but also achieves a loyalty from customers, pleasant working environment, successful business partnerships and ahead of the competition.
