Do you want to become stronger while having fun? Are you shy and timid? Do you get bullied often? Don't look; see. Don't hear; listen. Don't do; be. About four years ago, this was me. I was afraid of my own shadow. The shy kid, the tall kid, the weak kid, constantly being harassed and bullied. One night, I decided that enough was enough. I decided to join karate and learn how to protect myself. Now, fighting is never the answer, however, if left with no options, you need to know how to defend yourself. I had been in that situation too many times. I'm excited to say that karate has changed my life in so many ways. Martial arts has prepared me with the skill I need to protect and defend myself. Fitness, focus, self-esteem, socialization skills, and respect are just a few of the many benefits I have learned. Tae Kwon Do is a Korean karate with a military art, and one of the greatest popular forms of self defense today. Karate is beneficial and fun with learning techniques to avoid dangerous and violent situations. …show more content…
1980). Today it still exists as well as practiced by over 30 million people around the world. The name originates from the Korean word "Tae" meaning foot. "Kwon" meaning fist, and "Do" meaning way of. When you put it altogether, Tae kwon do literally means "the way of the foot and the fist." It is an unarmed combat of self defense with a physical fighting skill and strict discipline that trains both the mind and the body. The techniques I have learned include, punching, jumping kicks, strength training, blocks, dodges, sparring, and board breaking. The first way that samurai have an advantage in battles are their weapons. In the History Channel Warriors Video by Terry Schappert, A Katana measures about 42 inches of length. The Katana has a slight curve in the blades used for slashing instead of stabbing. The handle is wrapped in sting ray skin and bound with silk or leather so the samurai won’t lose his grip. This shows that the Katana is a strong and is a stable weapon, perfect for a battle. Another piece of evidence that supports this claim is in the History Channel video Warriors Video written by Terry Schappert, A samurai uses the tip of the
First of all, training methods of knights and samurais were different. Samurai had various training for personal toughness at the battlefield.
Protection is one thing that can help anyone. For example in the story Right to the Streets of Memphis by Richard Wright about a boy named Richard whose dad left the family. His mom gets a job and Richard gets new responsibilities. One of those responsibilities are to go shopping, and when he does he gets beat up by bullies. Then his mom gives him a weapon to protect himself against the bullies. This time with the weapon Richard’s mom gave him he beat
Although bullying itself can be violent behavior, often times violence is an actual after effect of the harm done by the bullying. Because of the depression or low self esteem after a bullying incident, both bullies and victims sometimes feel the need to lash out violently in order to handle the situation at hand. Although this is not necessary, in some minds this is the only way to handle a situation. These violent lashes can often lead to more serious violence and even illegal activity that could end in criminal charges. One clear cut way to avoid some of these major violence issues is to know how to handle the
“To conquer frustration, one must remain intensely focused on the outcome, not the obstacles.” I still remember this quote from Within I Rise by T.F. Hodge because this specific quote has helped me through my long and winding journey toward the black-belt. It started with my friend in fifth grade showing me what he learned in karate class the day before, and me asking my mother if I could join. My brother and I went to our first class and I instantly fell in love with the sparring, grappling, fighting combinations, self-defense, and of course, learning to use nunchucks. It was not long before I had my eye on the black-belt, but there were many obstacles ahead. Less than one percent of all students at my karate school end up getting to
To a person not conversant with this art, Jujitsu may be considered as a foul or derogatory term in Japanese. However, Jujitsu us one of the most effective and deadly forms of martial arts taught today. Unique among other forms of combat, Jujitsu holds the position of a “parent art”, of from which other forms of martial arts such as Aikido, Judo and several Karate styles were extracted. Jujitsu is a combination of all levels of combat. It incorporates chokes, striking, grappling, nerve and pressure point attacks, joint locks, redirection of momentum and throws.
"Tae" means foot (to kick), "kwon" means hand (to punch), and "do" represents way of life. Karate literally means "open hand" and signifies a heart devoid of corrupt intentions. Both martial arts strive to unify the mind, body, and spirit into "one entity", while aiming at the ultimate goal of helping to build a better and more peaceful world.
The primary, and much older, contributor to the start of martial arts was the religion of

Becoming a healthier person interests us all, from young to old, being fit is something we strive for. Nowadays, one means of achieving that goal is through yoga. Karate was a lot of hard work for a child, but it paid off. I learned a bunch of valuable lessons that would help me in the long run. Karate taught me self-defense, dependability, focus, leadership skills, goal setting, and physical fitness.
Martial arts is an amazing thing with amazing experiences. It has many, many health benefits. Some of them include flexibility, agility, posture, weight, stamina, and mental strength. Discipline is also a benefit of martial arts because you have to follow instruction if you want the desired results, and correct techniques. I can tell you from a first hand experience that martial arts is a way of living; for me, it gave me flexibility, agility, timing, reflexes, a sense of a higher being, resolve, patience, speed, power, leverage, planning, adaptability, enlightenment etc… What I am trying to say is that martial arts can give you so many things and with no drawbacks.

Bullying can lead to mental health, social problems, emotional problems and even death. Children who are bullied are at increased risk for mental health problems, including depression, anxiety, and problems adjusting to school. Question is why do people bully each other? They are doing that to be attractive, however children and adolescents who are bullies are at increased risk for using drugs, and other substances and violence to others later in life. According to “Nasilje .com” that people who are bulling became more and more aggressive later in their lives. “65 per cent of men who kill themselves have been bullied” (Stop to violence, 2007). Young adults under age of 22 who are bullied can damage their brain development.
