The world is a cruel place; life is a cruel entity; today’s society is a cruel culture. How has the Earth, God created in the likeness of His own image become so cruel? This single question challenges theologians, religious authorities, and even common religious followers to think critically upon why a population in one part of the world is better off than another population. God calls those who are “better off” to help, serve, and pray for people who are less fortunate. This is what it means to be Men and Women for and with others. A denser and concise definition of Men and Women for and with Others can essentially be defined as sharing gifts, pursuing justice, and having concern for the poor and marginalized. It can vary between small, random acts of kindness to attacking heavier world issues- such as racism or world hunger- head on. It is one thing to discuss applying resources and gifts to better others world, especially the poor and marginalized, but it’s another thing to actually go out and use the resources and talents to make an impact in those who suffer today. Being Catholic has really helped me strive to take what I learn in mass and implement it in the communities around me. The acts of service I have participated in throughout my life have shaped my true identity as being a Man for and with Others. Through these acts, I have not only helped others in my community and the world, but I helped myself grasp the true understanding of justice God longs us to seek. My experience leads me to reflect on the true meaning of the work I am doing at hand. During my time of reflection, I like to relive the services I contributed to. My favorite service opportunity came out of the most unexpected circumstances. It was a Friday afternoon and I was feeling rather tired after my soccer
