For as long as I can remember, I’ve always wanted to be a meteorologist. The beautiful and smart young woman who would be known as “Ghenna Storms A Lot” on ABC 7 news at 11:00 am, staring alongside Dallas Raines and Garth Kemp. In addition, to be a renowned meteorologist, recognized by the American Meteorological Society. I had big plans as a young girl, however, needless to say plans changed.
In life we often experience moments that change who we are and who we want to be. These instances, as little or as surprising as they may seem, influence us greatly and inspire us to change our future. As for me, this moment didn’t happen until I was in my teens. Before this moment, I was on the path of becoming a meteorologist. Until that time,

I was headed to my first dental appointment of many in order to get my braces. Overwhelmed with joy and fear of my operation that would surely change my smile. I have always had a deep appreciation and love for going to the dentist. Whether it was the smell of the mint Colgate toothpaste roaming the dental office or the comfortable feeling of sitting in the reclining chair, I’ve never felt out of place there. However, I felt a bit more uneasy that day compared to my usual happy and bubbly self. Unfortunately, this day was different, I was bursting with curiosity and anxiety on how much getting braces would hurt. Having been told by my family and friends that it was an unimaginable pain, second only to breaking a bone. As I walked into the dental office, the anxiety was building up. I began sweating frantically as if the room was located in the Sahara. As I began to pant, my heart began racing tremendously. About 10 minutes later, I was called in by Dr. Kim, in which he informed he was ready to see me. Dr. Kim assured me that I had nothing to worry about. Twenty minutes’ pass and he had completed my procedure. He extracted four teeth from the top and placed pink braces on my lower teeth. Needless to say, it was one of the most peaceful and eye-opening experiences of my childhood. I didn’t feel an ounce of pain throughout the entire procedure. Throughout my procedure, Dr. Kim advised me to raise my …show more content…
I thought I’d pursue a major in atmospheric sciences and become a meteorologist. Not until the day I got braces, I would never have thought I would pursue dentistry. Even after I’ve gotten braces, I have encountered several amazing and motivational dental visits with Dr. Kim and his associates. Not only was Dr. Kim my mentor, he helped me network with other dental professionals who shared their own personal narrative and the passion they have for helping others. Pursuing biology as my major, has been one of the best choices I have made in order to advance in my educational career. It has helped me acquire skills and knowledge that I will need to get to dental school as well as when I am a dental student. As well as helping me pursue my career as a dentist with its endless opportunities and life lessons. I know that pursuing biology will one day get me to Dr.
All the various factors that lead me to dentistry amounted to just a part of my decision to become a dentist, the other half of my decision came from the simple question, “(w)ill this be a satisfying career for me?” A satisfying career, to me, is defined by whether or not I can use my career as a means to assist others and experience a sense of accomplishment and self-gratification in helping others. The notion of a satisfying career was one that came through personal experiences. Being a former Medicaid recipient, I was thankful to those that worked in the public health sector to help those in need, including myself and my family. Through my past experiences, I felt obligated to reciprocate the resources and assistance that I had received. At the end of my career, I hope to reflect back on my career and experience a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment for having helped others throughout my career; this is what will amount to successful career, from my point of view.
...ealth. This was reassuring because now I know that if I do not absolutely love being a dental hygienist, there are many other roads I can go down. For the future, I plan on finishing up my prerequisites and hopefully getting in the dental program. After finishing the dental program I plan to get a job as a dental hygienist. If I love it I will keep pursuing this; however, if I do not, I will then branch off and either be a representative or even teach some sort of science. This research helped me and got me so inspired to go down the career path that I have chosen.
Since a young age, I always felt inclined towards pursuing a career in the health care field; daydreaming about myself working at a clinic or hospital and making a positive impact on someone’s life. When I started college, I decided to major in Biology and explored the different career options the health field had to offer me by shadowing dietitians, nurses, physicians, and other healthcare workers to find my ideal job.
The career I have chosen for my future is to become a registered dental hygienist. It wasn’t until I actually learned what dental hygienists do that influenced my interest from medical to dentistry. The first honest reason I was gravitated to dental hygiene was because of the salary. I didn’t really know what Dental Hygienist actually did until I did some research.
The field i'm going to be doing my research is in the medical field because it always peaked my interest and as a kid it's something I always wanted to pursue for my future careers. The three job titles I would like to pursue are dental hygienist, forensic scientist, and pharmacist. The first choice I chose was dental hygiene, at first I wanted to be a dentist but after knowing that I would have to undergo many years of education and training to become a dentist, I wanted to start off with something small at first that's when I came across dental hygiene. It sounded fascinating and a subject I would like to focus on because it was a field
Statistics show that half of the population in America was below the age of eighteen in 1960. During this time, the young people of America decided that they wanted to use their rights in the democratic government. The Weather Underground Organization or the WUO was an organization of American radicals. The WUO was often called the Weather Underground or the Weathermen. The Weathermen was founded on the University of Michigan campus by a group of students in 1969. The WUO founders were Karen Ashley, Bill Ayers, Benardine Dohrn, and many more young radicals.
My affinity for biology comes from my childhood days that I spent watching dissection of rats and looking at the cellular structure under microscope. My mother, being a professor of biology regularly used to take me with her to a Biology lab and that is where my journey towards medical career began. Early on in my life, my family went through a long agony of my father's illness and death. This became a solitary stimulus for me to take up this profession and a driving force to strive for excellence. Going through that turmoil of recurrent hospital visits gave me a firsthand experience of an anguishing family.
An advantage for meteorologists is that they are able to predict future weather and potentially save lives during an emergency (Clary 1). Another advantage would be the nationwide opportunities (Clary 1). Since weather constantly occurs consistently around the world, job opportunities can be found in any country. Meteorologists’ median salary is $90,000 per year and can be employed by anyone (Clary 1). A disadvantage for meteorologists is the need for flexible hours and the possibility of working long hours during an emergency (Clary 1). Meteorologists also do not have time off during the holidays, nights, or weekends (“Careers as a TV Meteorologist” 4). Another disadvantage would be the possibility of getting injured on the job. “It can be dangerous because meteorologists often report from hurricanes, blizzards, or tornadoes” (Clary 1). Meteorologists have advantages and disadvantages to their job, but it is worth it in the
Working as an esthetician gave me the confidence that I wanted to work with my hands. Having the privilege of being raised in a family of doctors, my observations of family members in the health field grew into a passion of my own to help others. This desire to help others, coupled with my academic interest in the sciences and love of human interaction, led me to consider dentistry for a career. I personally felt the imperative need of dentistry through my father, who received serious inju...
I decided to pursue my MPH degree to be followed with the Residency in Dental Public Health. Now, more than ever there is a need for public control and prevention of disease with healthcare costs spiraling out of control.
“What made you want to become a dentist?”- I have been asked this question numerous times over the last five years since I embarked on my career path in the field of dentistry. I marvel in the bewilderment people have in trying to understand why on earth anyone would want to work in people’s mouths all day. Truthfully, it was my own pediatric dentist who inspired me to want to become a dentist and whom I aspired to be like. I remember being greeted by the friendly faces in the waiting room, playing with the toys until I was invited to sit in the bright green dental chair for my checkup. It was there that I learned the importance of oral health care and where my fervor for oral health care was born.
I have always had a very strong interest in meteorology. When I was little, I remember sitting on my porch watching thunderstorms, wondering what caused them. After doing more extensive research, I have found that meteorology is the career for me. In this report, I will discuss just what meteorology is, what meteorologists do and the basic requirements to be a meteorologist, as well as some possible jobs that can be found in meteorology.
Has there ever been an experience that not only has changed your development but also has recalibrated your entire life? If you were to ask me this question i would answer yes with great exuberance. I would also state that this occurred not even a month ago. I state this response with great joy simply because I enjoy the recalibration I have encountered, since this change can enhance a better future for myself. It has let me find my true passions and let me realize my true dislikes. Most importantly it has given me a new sense of maturity I feel that I didn’t earn! But in order to explain this adjustment that has crossed my path the reader must understand what and how my life was lived previously. Following this I can describe the events of my experience that leads to the pep talk that induced me into making the change that was essential in order to improve my future.
Dentistry is much older than most people realize and has an intriguing history. Early signs of dentistry can be traced back all the way to ancient Egypt and the Stone Age. If you loathe going to the dentist, be thankful you did not live in the Stone Age. Before the use of whiskey to dull pain and roughly 8,000 years before Novocain prehistoric patients would undergo painful procedures to repair their tremendously damaged teeth. “Our ancient ancestors were having holes drilled into their teeth with drill bits carved from stone. Scientists found eleven teeth from the skeletons of four females, two males and three individuals of unknown gender in an ancient cemetery in Pakistan that show signs of having undergone the painful procedure (Ring)”. Similar to the cavemen and people of today, ancient Egyptians were not spared from the dirty grasps of bad oral hygiene. Dentistry has come a long way since the times of cavemen and pharos. "Their diet, which was f...
Having this knowledge of the weather has bettered and saved several lives, whereas the issue of death and injured rate would be zooming through the ceiling. Who is not appreciative of weather forecasters? Although we may not present our thanks on a regular basis, we appreciate all the help that we can get. Meteorologists aren’t 100 percent correct, only the portion of the time that they are correct benefits a ton.
