Australia is a country in which everyone is allowed to live together peacefully and practice their religions and celebrate their cultures. All in all, Australia is a country that accepts everyone’s differences and welcomes them with open arms. However, not all Australians understand their peers. The LGBT+ community has been fighting for their rights for years and they’ve been fighting to be seen as a normal person for an even longer time. Whilst they discrimination is nowhere near as bad as what it was 10 to 20 years ago, we as Australian’s are still so far from letting those of different sexuality a part of our community. There are people who misunderstand homosexuals, transgender and bisexuals amongst other sexualities. Bisexuals are being called greedy by their coworkers. Transgender men and women are being referred ‘it’ instead of a person. Homosexuals …show more content…
After much planning and arranging, the team and I worked out how many cupcakes we would sell. We went around to three Year 7 classes and gave them order forms (we thought they deserved a welcoming gift) to ensure that if they wanted a cupcake, they would get their creative, captivating colourful cupcakes quickly and before everyone else. After getting a small handful of orders we begun to bake alongside a couple of volunteers. Within 2 hours not only had we baked over 50 cupcakes, we made over 70 chocolate truffles on the side. We stored them and they were ready to ice and sell the next day.
The following day, the team and I quickly iced all the cupcakes and prepared our stall moments before lunch started. We were all very nervous; we thought no one was going to buy our baked goods! We were pleasantly surprised when we found out that our goodies sold out in less than 20 minutes! We were ecstatic. Amongst all our cheering and celebrating, we counted how much money we made and found what that we had made , and all that money was going to be donated to a cause that strives for
Dally you should not even think about killing yourself it will not solve anything and will only make thing worse for everybody who cares about you. I know that you will not believe this and think that the world is horrible and is not worth living in but I promise you that there is still good in the world. I know that you will say that there is not and that I am naive, but I was not the only one to see this even Johnny saw it as he was dieing. He wanted me to try to point this out to you but I knew that you would need more than just me and Johnny's persuasion so I got word from all of the gang and some idea of how to make things better.
Today on the Australia issues podcast with nick is the issues on asylum seekers that then treatment towards them.
Australian people should be opening arms to the Face of Mercy and to the Refugees that are
Anzac Day. On the 25th of April, 1915 Australian and New Zealand forces formed part of the allied expedition that set out to capture the Gallipoli Peninsula. Anzac day is a national day of remembrance in Australia and New Zealand that commemorates the Australia New Zealand Army Corps (ANZACs) who served in all wars, battles and conflicts. Anzac day is an important day for many Australians and New Zealanders as it is a day where people take time to appreciate the soldiers who risked or gave their lives to represent and fight for our country in all the wars. Since Anzac day is celebrated so widely, there are many opinions that have developed over time. Some Australians and New Zealanders believe Anzac day shouldn’t be celebrated and others believe
Which leads into my third and final premise, changing the date will be a large step towards reconciliation and act as a demonstration that we have aspirations to make our country better. Many people claim that changing the date will not change history. Of course they’re right because nothing can change history. If we were capable of doing so, I’d like to think we would have done it already. Changing the date of Australia Day will not reverse the suffering that the original custodians of this land were subjected to. Nor will it abolish the iron fist of racism that Australia seems to be gripped by.
Picture a stunning sandy beach, waves lapping on the shoreline and the sun setting on the horizon creating a breathtaking atmosphere. The never-ending golden sand stretching as far as the eye can see. This is Australia.
It was late October, as we were adjusting to our new roles; we were given a compelling project called Kids against Hunger. This project required a vast amount of preparation and organization. I began by researching more on the project and learn more information before presenting this project to my officers. Kids Against Hunger provides meal for kids around the world with malnutrition and that are starving. Our goal was to package one quarter of million meals in two days. With my officers, we divide the two days and focus transportation to the fa...
For years homosexuality in the United States of America has been looked down upon by citizens, religions, and even politicians. The homosexual culture, or the LGBT (Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender), has been demoralized and stuck out and lashed against by the Heterosexual community time and time again. To better understand the LGBT community we must first grasp the concept of Sexual Orientation.
As the great Sir David Attenborough would say “The great barrier reef is in grave danger” and everything that comes out of his mouth is in fact a fact.
I can recall last year our president came up with a No Shave November fundraiser which involved a “who can grow the longest beard?” type of contest. We all had to sign up for committees that were a part of the set up. I co chaired an advertisement committee where we set up posters and got the word out about this new event so students would get involved. When it came down to sign ups, there was a low attendance. I overheard a group of guys arguing with each other about the contest and who would win, seeing that the competition part really excited them I challenged them to all join for the fun of it and a possible prize if they did win. All of them signed up that day and even though the event didn't end up being successful it was fun to see them involved and questioning me everyday about who was winning.
Traditionally, people involved in homosexual relationships have suffered social persecution in Australia, and there was no legal recognition of their relationship. In recent decades however, these social views have changed, and the law has adapted to reflect societies changing opinion of same-sex relationships. While there has been progress in the recognition of same-sex relationships, the ultimate goal of advocates for same-sex relationships is for them to be seen as equal to opposite-sex relationships, in all regards. The main focus point of this aim for equality is the legalisation of same-sex marriage, which is a highly controversial issue, and has proven difficult for supporters of same-sex relationships to achieve.
One thousand boxes of Girl Scout cookies. Every year the reward changes, a cool set of speakers, a laptop, an iPad, a gaming system, or cookie credits, large quantities of rewards points usable only within Girl Scouts. Since Kindergarten selling one thousand boxes of cookies has been my goal. A lofty achievement for a high school senior, never mind a five year old. The closest I have gotten was in sixth grade when I sold a little over 650 boxes. I was out every day after school and all day most weekends during the cookie season. From January to March I went door to door on foot through half empty neighborhoods on Martha's Vineyard. I had booth sales in the places with the greatest intensity of pedestrian and bicycle traffic. I went to the
Australia Day, celebrated on the 26th of January every year, is a nationally recognised day that signifies the anniversary of the arrival of the First Fleet. It’s a historic event that also marks the beginning of the oppression of the Indigenous people, that still can occur today, no matter how much the Government has tried to atone for the sins of the past. Australia Day is a day of celebration and mourning, a fact that contributes to the constant bickering between the Indigenous and non-Indigenous. There are many who believe that the meaning behind the modern Australia Day is overshadowed by the past, which will prevent the nation from moving forward, much like Ben Roberts-Smith who published an opinion piece in the Herald Sun on the 26th
There are individuals that live in fear of showing their true identity to the world because they simply fear that society won’t accept them for having a different sexual orientation. Society advocates that individuals should be able to be proud of who they are, but yet they judge homosexuals for being different. People are taught not to judge others based on their race or religion, so why do they still discriminate against homosexuals? The homosexual subculture is not accepted by society, looked down upon, and misjudged; however, they are human beings and deserve to be treated equally.
This was a very exciting project for me. We thought of the many ways we could make a difference. First, we had planned on putting on a small carnival for the children at the shelter. We had a pictured a bunch of kids running around playing games and winning prizes. Sadly, we didn’t have the time, money, or resources to make something that big happen. Also, the number of children staying at the shelter wasn’t as many as we thought. We then decided for raising
