"Spare the rod and spoil the child". This is the moral to Aesop's fable The Thief and his Mother. He proves that discipline is imperative. It emphasizes that if we do not take action in our children's wrong doings we will hurt them in the longer run. Children need discipline in their lives. It is their only way of learning the difference between right and wrong. As parents, it is our duty to mold our children in the right direction. The rewards of implementing discipline are endless, for knowing that they will make the right decision even when you are not there is comforting, and it pleases you. Discipline is fair, and open disciplinary procedures are essential to maintain harmony. Therefore, discipline is an important action taken to encourage compliance with organizational standards and regulations; whether in the home or at the work place. A popular and effective disciplinary rule used today by many managers is known as the "Hot Stove Rule of Discipline." This rule can be defined as the concept that disciplinary action should have the same characteristics as the penalty a person receives from touching a hot stove; that is, the discipline should be immediate, consistent, and impersonal (Gardner 1).
Before any disciplinary action can be implemented, a manager must first give advanced warning. Employees must be informed clearly that certain actions will result in disciplinary actions. This is a very important step. It is not the employee's fault if he is not informed of the company's rules, ethics and standards. The Missouri State Board of Nursing had several violation and disciplinary actions set for a hearing to review. The violation against one nurse was a second offense. Personnel selection involves selecting candidates and placing them in jobs within the organization. It can reduce or eliminate unsafe behaviors by having candidates screened through personality testing, and the questions that are asked are about how they would connect certain behaviors with consequences.
There is much controversy over the correct disciplinary actions for kids. If parents discipline their kids too little, they could turn out to be spoiled and entitled, but if they discipline them too much, the kids could become rebellious and act out more often. Management has a system in effect that will monitor the claims process and keep it working collectively for all employees. Each quarter, management will review the existing policies and procedures for ethics training and reporting and suggest areas for improvement. The use of the website for reporting claims of misconduct can also be used as a suggestion box. A link has been provided so that employees can anonymously make suggestions for the improvement of the ethics training system. Any reasonable suggestions will be given the utmost consideration and will be implemented upon the unanimous agreement of management. Programs found to be ineffective will be removed. The removal or implementation of programs will be discussed in training sessions so that trainee feedback can be taken into account, as well.

There are certain guidelines and standards that each employee should be aware of, and expected to follow. This is what is normally used to measure a person’s job performance. When not living up to these qualifications, an employee may a gentle reminder of his failure to comply. If held accountable for unacceptable behaviors, it will often turn this performance around. If not, after a certain amount of warnings, it becomes obvious that this person does not take his job very seriously, and therefore may be dismissed.

For instance, parents need to feel in control and see their form of discipline is taking effect that exact moment. However, if adults focus on results rather than addressing the issue, they are ultimately setting their children up for failure. “Punishment usually stops misbehavior immediately, however, the long-term results are negative because we are often fooled by immediate results” (Nelson, 13). Furthermore, this could be the reason why punishment is so popular amongst parents because it’s almost immediate response to misbehavior and the authoritative power it holds. According to Nelson, punishment is used by adults because it’s easier, they know how to punish, or do not know what else to do. (22). As a society, people usually take the easiest alternative to accomplish a task but it may not always be the better, smarter, or more efficient alternative. Furthermore, when people do not know what to do, they stick to what they do know. However, parents need to think of the long-term consequences and take the time, effort and skills to use effective discipline. (22).
One of the most critical aspects of raising a child is the way they are disciplined. Disciplining a child starts early in their life and how it is done sets an example for them of how to respond to undesirable behaviors. Discipline plays a key part in education. Respect from your students will make the classroom a better atmosphere. Rules should be established on the first day. Rules should be a thoughtful process so they can be carried out to be affective, but logical consequences. We do not want the students self esteem to be damaged.
