Animal Aid Did you know a good indicator of domestic abuse is animal abuse? (An Investigator of Pet Crimes) It’s upsetting but true. Animals that have been abused usually are labeled “at risk” at shelters which means to be cautious when approaching. When animals get abused shelters label them as “at risk” animals which makes it harder for them to get adopted. Animal Aid takes “at risk” animals and helps them find the home they deserve. Some abused dogs turn out to be the sweetest dogs who just had a rough past. Animal Aid is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization. 501(c)3 is a fancy way of putting a nonprofit organization that is tax-exempt. They deal with animals that have been hit by cars, abused and/or neglected, and animals that have been hurt in other ways. Sometimes these dogs can be labeled as “at risk” by other shelters. These dogs are less likely to get adopted due to the fact they don’t know how they will react to what. Robert Reisman is a forensic veterinarian at the A.S.P.C.A. in New York. He is what some shelters would call “at risk” and he got into a dogfight with one of his brothers and it didn’t end well for him. Due to the fight he is now very dog aggressive but we don’t know how he is with other animals, but he is very loving towards people. Most shelters wouldn’t deal with him because not only is he dog aggressive, he also has a bunch of wounds all over his body from the fight. He is staying at Mutterly Love and he can’t do anything but lay in a create. He does get 6 walks but he can only stay outside for a few minutes due to the fact the wounds are in the process of healing and some of them still haven’t gotten stitched up. The vet told them that he doesn’t want him outside for too long because of bugs and the risk of it getting infected. He is a great example of an amazing dog that has had a rough
