Introduction/ AGR: How many of you guys have dogs? How many of you adopted your pets? Look around today I want to bring attention to why you should adopt your next pet/dog Thesis Statement Slide with 3 main points. I believe you should adopt your next dog because you’re helping alleviate the Adoption Crisis, despite the myths, you can still find your desired breed through adoption, and it gives these dogs the new life they deserve. Reason 1: Growing Adoption Crisis Slide for Ethos Firstly, let's start with the adoption crisis, there are too many dogs for shelters to hold. According to data from Shelter Animals Count, over 3.2 million dogs entered animal shelters and only 2.2 million were adopted, leading shelters to be overrun with dogs. A total of 900,000 animals have entered and lingered in our nation’s shelters and rescues since 2021. This continued surplus has led to 400,000 dogs being euthanized in 2023 alone. It is a common belief that dogs end up in animal shelters because they were abused or behaved badly. But really, most dogs in animal shelters are there because they were strays or their owners went through a divorce, moving, lack of time, or financial constraints. Surrendered animals are most often already house-trained and used to living with families. With one of the lowest dog …show more content…
Most of these dogs at shelters come from being born in the shelter, owner surrenders, or rescues and are just looking for a new home. You save two lives when you adopt a pet from an animal shelter or rescue group, the dog you brought home, and the one who is rescued because of the space you made available. My Frenchie Penny was rescued from a puppy mill after delivering 2 litters of puppies and is a little ball of energy, and my Britney-Poo Finnegan was adopted from an animal shelter and turned 15 in November. They’re both amazing dogs. No matter where you get your dog, you’re still going to love it the
Year after year people buy puppies from big breeders. Have you ever wondered where that puppy grew up? What kind of conditions the puppy lived in? Most puppies that someone would buy from a pet store are raised in puppy mills. Puppy mills are well-known for their “inhumane conditions” and the endless breeding of “unhealthy and genetically defective” dogs only for income. People should adopt rather than buy from a pet store or breeder. By adopting from a shelter, one could give a dog a second chance at a happy life.
Making the right to choice to adopt befits you, your pet, and all the other stray animals that do not yet have homes. By, adopting through the human center you can save money while still obtaining a new pet. Not only will you be helping the lives of other stray animals but you would not be contributing to the inhuman puppy mill industry. The overpopulation of stray animals can be combated if you make the right choice and adopt from the humane

In present day, people adopt canines for numerous reasons. The most common reported reason for acquiring a canine is for companionship, followed by promotion of exercise, proceeded by protection, and finally for breeding or showing (Jagoe & Serpell, 1996).
Restate Thesis Statement: Dogs don’t only give owners happiness; they also affect their owners positively.
Ideally, pet supply would be equal to the demand for wanted pets. There may never be enough caring homes for all the pets as is evident by the fact that only about 25 percent of the pets in shelters are ever adopted. F...
According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, 7.6 million companion pets enter animal shelters across the United States each year, nearly evenly disrupted between dogs and cats . These animals are abandoned for reasons including families no longer being able to care for them (sickness/death of an owner), to families not wanting them (the novelty wearing of the animal wearing off), to the animals being born into puppy mills to finally animals that are loved being lost from their owners. These animals do not understand what is happening to them and rely on the kindness of humans to provide for them in shelters until their forever home can be found.
They say that a dog is a man’s best friend, but they don’t tell you about the overall cost, responsibility, or convenience of adopting one. Dogs are supposed to bring so much joy to a household, but sometimes they can only fill a void for a short amount of time. When a dog owner buys a dog, do they actually research the things that they are about to get into? When I bought my dog, Skye, I never really looked into issues; I just looked at the benefits. I love Skye to death, and I guess I could say that she also loves me to death.
Some people may say a dog is just a dog, but for me they are extremely desirable. Dogs are a person’s best friend. They make me cry, laugh, and I wish never adopted one because they do smell. Although, dogs smell, it should not be a justification to not obtain one. I mean what does not smell? I never realized how taking care of a dog could change my life; until I saw how they sleep throughout the day, they are always there to comfort me, and how they provide a responsible way of living.
We began our way down the long hall lined with informational posters that told you just what type of dog you were adopting. My father has always been more of a dog person, but we’ve been restricted to cats my whole life because of my brothers allergies. Entering that concrete room full of violent fluorescent lights and howling dogs was simply overwhelming. The small beagle on our left lept three feet in the air at the sight of my dad and I bending over to pet him through the bottom portion of the cage. I left my dad to pet the smaller dog as I made my way around the labyrinth of cages. I was met with a taped off area covered in water, and two pitbulls, crying for attention. Ignoring the wet floor caution tape, I stuck my hand in the larger
Dogs are wonderful creatures. They are loyal, dependable companions if given the opportunity. In recent years I have come to the opinion that we could learn something from these animals. We should also take a look at the manner in which they are being treated. Abandonment, irresponsible breeding, and neglect are only some of the ways that humans are failing the canine species.
By doing so, animal shelters will be more manageable as adoptions increase, making room and resources available for other abused and ill animals to be rescued. According to Krysten Kenny, “As of 2011, it is estimated that there are over seventy-eight million dogs owned in the United States, only twenty-one percent of which were adopted from animal shelters” (p. 379-406). Adopting an animal from a no kill shelter costs significantly less than purchasing a purebred dog from a puppy mill. Purebred animals generally have more health and behavior issues than mixed breeds, such as, anxiety, respiratory infections and congenital conditions (e.g. hip dysplasia, cancer, vision problems, and joint issues). The Institute of Canine Biology acknowledges, “The incidence of 10 genetic disorders (42%) was significantly greater in purebred dogs” (2015).
Besides medical benefits, working with us and helping with daily activities, animals can help us mentally and socially. This project seeks to know if there is an emotional benefit to owning a pet. My two classmates and I have organized an interview that contains six questions for the participants that can demonstrate their feelings about owning their pet. Each of us completed one interview with a pet owner and was recorded with participant’s consent. After obtaining responses, the interviews were prepared into typed-transcripts and discussed among our group members. We then coded and analyzed the data from our three interviews and examined the findings. We have concluded that pet ownership
Many people believe that the only way to get a pet is to “buy” one without considering adopting, which is why I believe people should consider looking up better options and become more knowledgeable. There are so many reasons why someone shouldn’t buy a pet from a breeder, and so many benefits from adopting a pet from your local shelter/animal rescue.
People say that dog is man's best friend. Throughout the history of mankind dogs have earned an important and appreciated place in people's hearts showing them unconditional love and support whenever they need them. Generally, people like animals, as I do too, but of all possible pets to choose I would always choose a dog. With all my will, creativity and delight I chose to write this essay about dogs because lately I have been wanting to get one very badly.
