Adele’s 21 features powerful vocal performances and deep, meaningful lyrics. The songs in this album have become some of the most recognizable recordings of this generation. The album evokes the emotions of heartbreak, bitterness and loneliness. Most of the inspiration for this album comes from Adele’s breakup with her boyfriend. Adele channels this inner heartbreak into beautiful powerful songs. This is Adele’s second album and is a follow-up to her first album 19. The album goes through the stages of a breakup, including anger, sadness, and acceptance. Adele brings very personal connections from her own experiences and bring them to the listeners of this album. The first song “Rolling in the Deep” goes through the anger part of this album.
The piano is what sets the mood of the whole piece, the beginning starts off slow and gloomy sounding, then the vocalist begins to sing and confirms that this song is going to be unhappy. Although the song is gloomy sounding, I still like it, the piano has a pleasant melody and it is calming. It sounds like a song that should be played in a movie when a loved one dies and everyone’s moored at a funeral.
In this song one can tell that the singer is very sad and depressed about many things that have happened in his life and the love ones that have passed away. When he sings this lyric “My sweetest friend…. I will let you down” you can tell that it is about how his loved ones have passed on and he let
The second song, Change, also shows the problem with systematic oppression. J. Cole recounts the time that he saw his friend get shot. This is the main point of the whole album and the song revolves around the tale of this friend who is killed. The last song, 4 Your Eyez Only, brings everything back together and tells the full narrative of his friend’s unfortunate fate. While attacking the life that many people glorify and empathizing with those who are stuck in this life, J Cole closes out his fourth album on a hopeful note. Using the perspective of his deceased friend, he writes a song (the actual album), for his daughter, condemning all that is bad and hoping for her to grow into a somebody. In a heart touching verse the father states “Maybe you hate me, maybe you miss me, maybe you spite
Britt Nicole was going through some difficult times in her life when she was seven years old. Her parents were going through a divorce and that made a huge impact in her life. At one moment she remembered running up to her room with tears in her eyes and opening her Precious Moments Bible. She grew up hearing her grandpa reach about Jesus and she needed Him more than ever and to rescue her in the moment. After crying out to Him she felt His presence fill her room. The singer Britt Nicole relates and explains in her blog,” All this time is my salvation story. It is how the story of how I met Jesus and a reminder that whatever we face in life, we don’t have to face it alone because Jesus promised to never leave us and forsake us.” This is the background of Britt Nicole’s song, “All This Time.” Through her hard times in life, Britt Nicole accepted Jesus in her heart and from that point, it modified her life. She feels relief about the acceptance of Jesus.
Which was no strange feeling to me since I turned to music to cope with whatever ailed me, because no matter what, a song, some headphones, and volume turned way too loud was always there. Returning to the supple age of ten, was a disconnect, mainly between the receptors in my brain that determine whether or not I get enough of the happy chemicals, but between what I am, and what I thought I was. I thought I was a kid like everyone else, I would be sad for no reason often, but moving many times, and having to be on my own for a large portion of my early to late teens, I thought it was how life was for most people in my situation. My situation was dreary at best, people bullied me extensively in middle school to high school, in the first string of serious relationships I had they all left because of some arbitrary meaning of what being happy should have been; coming to a peak on Valentines day of 2012, the first time I attempted suicide. Suicide is the focus of the song, how abandonment can lead to hopelessness and desperation to the point of the ultimate act of despair, death. “I guess I finally had the courage to go away. The promises we made were made hollowly. Sometimes you'd reassure me we'd be okay. But you'd always leave” (A Lot Like Birds. Kuroi Ledge. Equal Vision Records, 2013.
Don’t pick a song just because you like it, it must have meaning. Your list must be typed and include the following information: Song title, artist, and a short three to five sentence explanation as to why the song represents you.
She had been dating, long term with a man, and they fell out of love. This came as a devastating blow as she had explained that he had a love for many sophisticated things that opened her eyes to the world (Sanderson). Her breakup brought a feeling of failure, that despite her trying she could not keep him. Although there was a grieving period, it came after Paul and Adele completed the passion written within “Rolling in the Deep”. Adele reportedly said, “Let’s write a ballad,” but Epworth contested saying, “Absolutely not! I want to write a fierce tune” (Sanderson). Deep within writing this album the heartbreak occurred, which sparked a personal song writing streak for the young Adele. “Rolling in the Deep” is the epitome of her album 21. With fierceness built up inside, Adele and Paul Epworth were able to write the #1 song in the 2011 popular music charts. The song has a beat that was Adele’s own heart, during a time of utter frustration and anger. The audience can relate to her pain, either personally or in a sympathetic way, as listeners often know of someone who has gone through a similar situation with their sincere
Many music artists choose to express themselves through songs for issues such as domestic violence and similar problems. ‘Family Portrait’ written by Pink and ‘Misery’ written by Maroon 5 are both songs that successfully reflect the issues of domestic violence throughout the pieces. ‘Family Portrait’ is a song written by pink in 2001 about a broken family and a little girl’s emotional plead for her mother and father to not leave each other. In line 4, the lyrics reflect the violence in the little girl’s house. As the song continues, in lines 9, 10, 11 and 12, it has become so deeply influenced by her mother and father. In lines 22, 23 and 24, the lyrics reflect the little girl’s attempts to escape the violence. The little girl repeats herself of the phrase “it ain’t easy growin’ up in World War III to symbolise the chaos in her house. ‘Family Portrait’ is an excellent representation of a household manifested with domestic violence. ‘Misery’ is a song written by Maroon 5 in 2010 is a more recent song about domestic violence. This song displays the themes of remorse and regret from the male role which is evident through the entire song. In lines 3 through 11, the lyrics metaphorically represent the emotional cuts that are left by one another. Later through lines 25 to 29, the lyrics talk about regret and giving up. The lyrics “so let me be” are mentioned twice to show remorse for the father’s past. These
Throughout the song the tone changes from a disappointed and unsatisfied feeling until it progresses into a hopeful and maturing tone. This transformation of tone follows the story almost perfectly and allows the reader to feel a connection to the transformation of the protagonist. This transformation from “expecting the world” (line 1) to realising that some things must happen for others to come into motion “the sun must set to rise” (line 24) is especially impactful and emotional when paired with the lines “ This could be para-para-paradise, para-para-paradise” that are repeated to show her newly established happiness and maturity. Ultimately, this progression from disappointed
CSNY is profoundly successful in conveying their message in the song by using the right lyrics and vocals accompanied by the tune of the guitars. “Helplessly Hoping” can be interpreted in so many ways that in either way it, nonetheless, will insinuate on the same thing, which is love. As they put it love is not lying, and it will always be around. Listening to the song can put one in an emotional roller-coaster that its theme can be known beforehand. This perplexed relationship describes the essence of love, and its implications. It reflects on how love can be capricious, which gives a sense of mystery. The harmony of the group in the song makes it one of my favorites, and puts it in my top list of love songs in all times.
All around the word there have been many cases of bullying, some that were prevented and some that ended in a tragedy such as death. The song “Mean,” by Taylor Swift is effective in using metaphor, similes, and symbolism to promote the prevention of bullying by letting everyone know to never let anyone push you around and to always stand up for your self. This song was written because, Taylor swift herself was bullied by Bob Lefsetz, a critic who heard her song, "did Taylor Swift kill her career overnight?…Taylor 's too young and dumb to understand the mistake she made.” This are the types of comments that can cause a person to feel worthless and untalented. We can see that no matter what age you are there’s always the possibility of getting
She writes about truth, trust and love, but as those topics alone make her sound boring, but when you listen to her the song it is lively and something that you could dance to but it has such a powerful meaning. Some lyrics show how Adele really feels about this person she is singing to in her song. “I know you haven 't made your mind up yet, But I will never do you wrong. I 've known it from the moment that we met, No doubt in my mind where you belong. I 'd go hungry; I 'd go black and blue, And I 'd go crawling down the avenue. No, there 's nothing that I wouldn 't do to make you feel my love.” The song shows that she would do anything just to prove to this man/women that she loves them. So love in the persona of this song is an ever going emotion that has to be proven that it is meant. Adele has a point love isn 't given, you must earn it and after you earn it you must continue to show those aspects that made you earn it in the first place. Which I do agree with because you shouldn 't lie to that person and once you finally get what you want you show your true
I also think of lyrics that shout out my life story and I know that I am not the only one to feel this way which is why Swift has such a big fan base. Taylor Swift will leave a lasting impression on society to come. She is one of the few females on Forbes 40 list and makes more money than many other male artists. Not only is she an inspiration to females everywhere, but she is also an inspiration to her own fellow artists. Swift can be seen dancing at any awards ceremony she attends and has a genuinely good outlook on life. It’s crazy how she connects with her fans on such a personal level. I have been in concerts where there hasn’t been one dry eye in the arena because of the amount of emotion that Taylor Swift puts into her songs. Swift has been nominated as Time’s Woman of the Year because she is such a vibrant young woman (Dickey,
“Family Portrait” by Pink portrays a social problem that is unfortunately rampant in American society today; divorce. I chose this song because I am an adult child of divorce and this song helped me a lot during my parents' initial separation and subsequent divorce years later. I feel that this song gives a voice to children everywhere who are dealing with parental divorce and expressing thoughts and emotions that many children cannot express to their parents. Nowadays it is not uncommon to know one or even several people whose parents are divorced or whose own marriages have ended in divorce. Divorce has far reaching effects; not only for the couple but among the entire family.
This song reassures us that in a world so vast and separated, people can be brought together by love and faith. Similarly, "Dreaming of You" expresses that life can be an unexpected fairytale in which our dreams can and do come true. It paints a picture of a female/male night after night dreaming about the person she/he loves; longing, waiting for the courage to express that love.... ... middle of paper ... ... Listeners reap from this conclusion the sense of hope needed to live out their lives.
