“Hurt” a song originally recorded by Nine Inch Nails which portrays self-harm and heroin addiction has been covered by many great artists including Johnny cash. When Johnny cash covered this song I got a deferent message from the lyrics while he sings it, maybe it is because of his voice or how he lived his life, but when he is singing this song I get a sense that he is singing about a loved one that has passed on, growing older, and his legacy.
In this song one can tell that the singer is very sad and depressed about many things that have happened in his life and the love ones that have passed away. When he sings this lyric “My sweetest friend…. I will let you down” you can tell that it is about how his loved ones have passed on and he let
them down into the ground to be buried. While all his loved ones and dearest friends are going on he is all alone and growing older. One can also feel that he has a sense of mortality is starting to bother him and that he is tired of growing older and everyone he knows is slowly dying but he is still alive and alone. He sings apart in the song about how he is under the sands of time showing how he is start to feel like his time is slowly coming to an end. But even in the end he is remembering his legacy. He sings about how he wears a crown of thorns that shows how his at the top but yet it still hurts him to be there. Even though he has this empire and a great legacy it is like dirt to him because in the end it will all eventually go away and so does everyone and everything he loves. He sings that if he could start again far away that this time he would be true to himself and not be easily changed from his ways and recreate his legacy and how it all would end. In the end maybe he would not have hurt so badly. When Johnny Cash sings “Hurt” the mood that he sings it in makes listeners feel for how there life has been and loved ones that have passed on, and might make them regret some of their past actions. From listing to this song one can relies that they should think and become wiser about the actions that they are making in their life because eventually it will all end and you will have to live with the regret of some of the things that one has done and wishing they could change them.
The lead singer of the band Train, Pat Monahan revealed in an interview that this song is about the death of his mother. In the interview Monahan stated, “ Loss of the most important person in my life was heavy on my mind, and
There are many phrases that have several different meanings and interpretations. One phrase is slightly more difficult to decipher; the title of Tim McGraw’s latest hit “Humble and Kind”. The songwriter, Lori Mckenna, takes important characteristics people should possess and incorporates them into a song. This song describes many life situations and is directed toward the general youth of today. McKenna writes while thinking of her children and the life lessons they should learn (Lyrics Uncovered). McGraw then puts them into a melody that is calm, as if he is teaching as he sings. The single “Humble and Kind” is packed full of life lessons for all to hear.
The Fray's hit song, 'How To Save a Life,' tells a story of a mentor, also a friend, who is trying to 'save a life' of a troubled youth. The story starts off with the teenager and this friend sitting down to have a talk about what is wrong in the teen?s life. The second line reads, 'he walks, you say sit down it's just a talk,' this showing anger and fear of what might be brought up in conversation, so he tries to run away from the problem. Although neither individual wants to have the talk, they both respect each other enough to be polite, 'He smiles politely back at you/
Johnny Cash can be considered one of the best country artists of all times, but the soul of his music is rooted in the blues. Many of Cash’s songs are about the complications that come with love. The four songs listed above are only a few parts of the story Cash teaches us about the world of love. Most importantly, Cash does a wonderful job of explaining the complicated nature of love and how it really is the most powerful force in the world. Before diving into each of these songs, one must first understand how Cash is a blues artist just as much as he is a country artist.
Too many times bad situations are solved through violence, and there is never an ending to the pain through this method. However, music serves as a host to emotions, and can reach and connect people across the world. Whatever situation one is in, a song can provide hope, understanding, and comfort through the familiarity in the emotions sung about in the song.
He sings, “Friend, please remove your hands from / Over your eyes for me / I know you want to leave but / Friend, please don't take your life away from me.” These words, combined with the piano and the sudden lack of noise, create a very moving effect. The first two lines leave the listener curious as to why it is so important that the friend uncovers his eyes. The last two lines give more clarity into the meaning of the stanza. When taken as a whole, the listener can understand the situation the singer is in, where his friend wants to die, but he is not ready to let go. This deeper understanding of the chorus gives the listener a feeling of understanding and also of sadness. It also symbolizes his friend trying to hide how he’s feeling. The eyes are the windows to the soul, and he didn’t want to show what was going on in his
Music prompts Rob to isolate himself, hold an unrealistic view of people and sabotage his relationships. Rob allows himself to get overcome with a feeling when listening to a song pertaining to that feeling. Many of the songs he mentions as his favorites or with significant meaning, relate to Rob?s life in that they have a lot to do with loneliness. One song in particular that Rob wants to serve as his eulogy, ?Many Rivers to Cross,? by Jimmy Cliff touches upon aspects of his life, such as loneliness, abandonment and anger.
Pretty Hurts is a song that the artist Beyonce sings. The main idea in the lyrics of the song is about the pressure that society has put on women to have the perfect body. How it makes women do things that is essentially not good for their health and well-being. This song is telling us what the pressure of having the perfect body does to most women and how it affects them. The lyrics in this song send send a very strong message.
Another line of the song is "...those three words are said too much, they're not enough..." To me, Lightbody said this because the three words he was referring to, I love you, are not enough to express his love for this person. These words are used so much today that the true meaning of them has become somewhat meaningless at times. It has become an automatic response to certain situations when one doesn't know what to say. As silly as it sounds, this song resonates with me because in the past two years I have come to know one of the greatest people in my
reader is able to feel the song. In addition, the reader is able to identify the sadness with
In my 18 years I can relate to most of these quotes but some of them have a much deeper meaning to me than others. I have picked “The River” quote by Garth brooks because it is the most relatable to how I already think about how I want to live my life. When ever I have free time I attempt to use it up because life's too short in my mind to just not take the time to enjoy it. This quote relates to my yearbook quote of taking every day to have an adventure and having every adventure make its own story, but since a few months ago this quote now has a new meaning to me. A month ago I had a friend die, he was 18 and had a terminal tumor in the right side of his brain.
This song was “our” song. We would plug in his phone and play this song on repeat for hours. We did not really listen to the lyrics, except that we wanted to get out. Patrick and I were hard to separate. I wanted to be with him a lot of the time. Most times that I heard this song, one would see a huge smile appear on my face. Then, slowly, the smiles stopped appearing and Patrick and I drifted apart. We would fight much of the time; neither of us were happy. We eventually stopped talking and ended our relationship in a rough way. I did not listen to the true meaning of the song until after the end of Patrick and I’s
The friend that the song is about tries to ignore his feelings, yet also acknowledges them at the same time. There are many lyrics in the song that indicate that this problem was in the past and shows repetition throughout the poem, such as, “Where did I go wrong/ I lost a friend/ Somewhere along the bitterness/ And I would’ve stayed up with you all night/ Had I known how to save a life.” The lines, “Drive until you lose the road/ Or break with the ones you’ve followed,“ are both a flashback and symbolize of when things started getting out of control. “He will do one of two things/ He will admit to everything/ Or he’ll say he’s just not the same/ And you begin to wonder why you came,” these lyrics go back to the subject of the song and the author’s conflicts. He went to help the friend out, but made him more confused, so he doesn’t know what to do anymore. The lyrics show how much he cared about his friend, but it also showed the lack of communication, and what the result of that
Buju Banton approach to “Untold Stories” talks about the current situation in Jamaica, detailing the trials and tribulations of the ghetto dwellers of Buju’s own Kingston, Jamiaca. But, through detailing the specific struggles of his own people, Buju lays bare the class warfare which afflicts poor people all over the world. Buju Banton was born Mark Anthony Myrie in 1973 in Kingston, Jamaica. Two decades later, Buju had become one of his country’s top DJs. (In Jamaica, the term ‘DJ’ refers to what we Americans think of as an MC or rapper.) The music was very popular and its best-known practitioners were rich and famous, but the often-explicit and sensationalistic lyrics did not accurately reflect the reality of
For this analysis, I will be breaking down the lyrics of the song "Let Her Go" by passenger. This song is about not realizing what you have until it is almost gone, or gone completely. It is a very emotional song that most people can really relate to. Although this sing is about the singer that goes through a break up with his girlfriend, only to realize that she was really important to him, and he feels like he is missing something in his life. In the opening verse he says "Well you only need the light when it's burning low". This is saying that you can be doing everything by yourself when you have something to guide you to the end, but once that "light" goes out and starts to "burn low", then you realize that you were relying on whatever it was to get you to the end. Next he says "Only miss the sun when it starts to snow" this is kind of like the last line but switched up the wording to make people understand it better. almost everyone, that has experiences the cold, can relate to how bad you want the sun to come out and be warm. So by him saying that you know what he is trying to convey. That is in the summer you dont really think about the sun, or you wish it to go away, but once winter comes around, and it is cold, you then wish to have that summer heat back. the last line in the opening of this song is where you start to get the true meaning of this song, he says "Only know you love her when you let her go" (Songmeanings). This lyric is showing that you can go through a relationship not really being happy and not realizing how important the other person is to you, but once they are out of your life you then realize how much they really meant to you.
