The career that I have always dreamed of having is being an educator, specifically in the subject of history and social studies. I have always tried to imagine what it would be like to have my own classroom filled with students who are eager to learn. Throughout my academic career, I would put myself in my teacher’s shoes. I would picture myself in their position and it always intrigued me. I was intrigued by the notion that every teacher I have had is slightly different. This added to the passion I have for teaching simply because of the fact that there are countless ways to be an effective educator. It gives me great comfort to know that I can be just as effective of an educator as the person in the classroom next to me, or the professor

Throughout my highschool career, I had always intended to go into the medical field. I had this intention not because this was the career I wanted to go into, but because I felt that it was expected of me. However, during my junior year I had an English teacher who helped me fall in love with writing. I grew up loving literature but just never thought about going into that career field. After realizing that literature made me truly happy I decided that was the career I needed to go into. At the moment I am debating upon majoring in journalism or becoming a high school English teacher. Either way, I know that I have finally found a career where it wouldn’t be about profiting from a salary. There would be so much more. However, in order to achieve
As my junior year comes to an end, the time for looking into my future begins. The process for a high school student trying to figure out where they want to go to college and what choices they have for careers and their future can be made much easier by simply doing extensive research. I have looked into multiple colleges and a couple careers I believe I would excel in and enjoy to make sure I am making the right decisions about my future. I have done extensive research on the colleges I am considering, including Kaplan University, The Art Institutes and Sinclair Community College. I have also done extensive research on being a photographer and on being a social worker so that I could consider these occupations for my future career.
Becoming a teacher was not something I always knew I wanted. As I approached an age where I really started considering what I would like to do for a career I only knew that I did not want to work in an office behind a desk all day. I wanted a job that would be interactive, challenging and exciting. I also knew I wanted a job that would be important and would somehow contribute to the world in an important way. I thought being a teacher; particularly a teacher in the primary levels would fulfill those hopes and goals assuming I dedicate myself to becoming an effective teacher who has a positive influence on the lives of my students.
To begin out of the countless professions one has to chose from in the world today I have chosen to become a teacher. I have chosen to become a teacher because I myself am a product of some whom I consider to be the best teachers in the world. As a child in North Carolina I was inspired by a wonderful woman named Mrs. Hollyfield. Mrs. Hollyfield taught me that no star was too far out of reach, if I put my mind to accomplishing my goal I could make it. Mrs. Hollyfield inspired me to be the best I could be at anything I wanted to be. As I have grown I have had other important teachers, some whom I am surrounded by daily whom inspire me to set out to accomplish my dreams. These wonderful inspiring people in my life have led me to the decision of becoming a teacher.
Throughout my entire life there has always been one thing that has remained constant—there has always been some sort of teacher in my life. During my academic career, there have been teachers that I have liked and a few that I have disliked, but I have always respected them for what they accomplish on a day-to-day basis. It never occurred to me until my second year of college that I could also be a teacher. I have always participated in activities that stressed leadership, I have been a mentor for numerous children through 4-H and other youth programs. In a way I have been teaching my entire life, but I had never realized it until now.
Some people know what they want to do all their lives, others work an entire life before they realize what it is they enjoy doing and some know what they would enjoy doing, but are too stubborn to admit it. I admire those people who have always known what they want to do and stood by it. I was one of those people who knew in a way what I wanted, but was not real confident if it was the job for me. I have always loved school and the learning process. I would play school with my sisters and I was the teacher. What I have really always liked to do is help people in any way that I could. I always thought to improve life and society I had to be in the health care profession. Now, I know that is not always true. I feel teaching is an awesome way to improve society and to help people succeed in life. Teaching is the career I have chosen to fulfill my dreams of helping people live better lives. I have taught at vacation bible school and enjoyed every minute. I taught children of all ages mixed together and the challenge was rewarding. My husband and family support the career choice I have made. When we started learning about the philosophies of education, I did not agree with just one philosophy so I took the philosophies that are important to me and showed how I will use them to expand learning in my classroom. I am a believer in the mixing of the philosophies of progressivism, behaviorism, essentialism, and social reconstructivism.
As a kid, I went through many thoughts of careers that I Wanted. I wanted to be a cop because I would be able to help people and protect them. After a while, I lost interest in it, and wanted to be a firefighter. I wanted to be firefighter because they’re around fire and I loved fire at the time. When I looked into it more and more , I lost interest in it too just like being a cop. There were more careers than that I lost interest in, but there is one that I never lost interest in. The one that I didn’t lose interest in was me becoming a zoologist.
Through my own experiences, and as enforced by others' opinions in the profession, I have found that teaching is one of the most rewarding careers. Not only are you placed in the position of instructing and guiding children and young adults through the life long learning process, but you are able to give back to the schools and communities which have supported your early education and experiences that opened you up to a bright future. In becoming an educator, I hope to someday share the knowledge and lend the helping, supportive hand that I was once given, allowing students to formulate their own perspectives of the multicultural society and world around them. Teaching is a career I have been interested in pursuing throughout high school, and as my experiences and study in the field expands, I feel that my desire to teach will grow stronger and develop more soundly.
“The more you know, the more you realize you don’t know-the less you know, the more you think you know”(Freeman). The more I learn about the work and career environment more I have come to understand that if I teach, plan, and prepare myself, then I can be ready and more eligible for success. Creating a career plan and following the correct education path while understanding all duties, benefits, and general implications of the career can be a crucial aspect of deciding on personal goals.
All college students should partake in career exploration project because it gives structure and direction. Becoming a teacher has been the ultimate aspiration for myself since the first day I walked into kindergarten. As a very timid student, it was a difficult task transitioning from being with my mother everyday, to being part of a classroom environment full of strangers. However, my kindergarten teacher helped me through this transition smoothly, and adequately. I very quickly learned to love school. Soon after, I knew I would aspire to become a teacher. I would spend countless hours at home with a blackboard, acting as a teacher to my imaginary students throughout my elementary school years.
Teaching is a daunting task that I do not intend to take lightly. Becoming a teacher has been a dream of mine for several years. I always knew that teaching would be the career for me, especially when I began working in the school system as a substitute secretary. I loved working in the school environment; coming in contact with children everyday made me realize how much I would enjoy teaching a classroom full of students.
