An AC PNP is an Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. The AC PNP “meets the specialized physiologic and psychological needs of infants, children, adolescents, and young adults with complex acute, critical, and chronic health conditions” (University). The daily duties of an AC PNP is long-lasting. First, the nurse practitioner begins his or her day by learning a little about their patient. AC PNP’s must be able to provide age appropriate care to their patients, therefore this is important. Then the PNP (pediatric nurse practitioner) coordinates with a health care team to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans. As for the working demands, “..the caseload is heavy and the environment is fast-paced..”. The reason for the heavy caseload of work depends on the hospital and the faculty at the time. The AC PNP must be able to have a stable emotional system because of the critical, life-threatening issues that come into the unit. Because of these intense issues, the nurses must be able to pass a physical test. The test includes the “ability to lift twenty pounds, moving, lifting, or transferring of up to fifty pounds, the ability to stand for extended periods, fine motor skills, and finally visual acuity”. If you are not able to do this, then you would not be able to get a job as an AC PNP. This is important because of the working demands that come with the job. This is due to the reason of having lots of other contacts with other humans emotionally and physically. AC PNPs often set goals for him or herself because of this reason. The perfect acronym that many PICUs use is CARING. This stands for Community, Accessibility, Respect, Integrity, New knowledge, and Growth (University). Nurses must be a part of the community and people must be able to have an easy access to him or her. Respect is a huge part of being in the medical field by working with multiple other people and integrity due to the fact of having strong values. Always wanting to gain new knowledge about the medical field to enhance your understanding of your patients is very important. You have to have short unpainted nails and nails that are natural and not fake. The reason for that is because you could get stuff under your nails or germs and spread it to other people without knowing, another reason is because you have to wear gloves and the nails could poke right through the gloves and if you're dealing with body fluids then that person could get you sick if they have any illnesses.You also have to have natural hair color or hair that is not distracting to others. You can't have your hair all in your face or looking all crazy. You also can't wear too much makeup because it could also be very distracting.
