The exploration of two models will show an interesting relationship when compared and contrasted. Both can increase competency levels in team building. The models are the Drexler/Sibbet Team Performance model (Human Performance Strategies) and the Four Stage Team Performance model (Developing Management Skills). When they have been used correctly they’ve been shown to improve efficiency and profitability in organizations. “Developing team skills is important because of the tremendous explosion in the use of teams in work organizations over the last decade (Developing Management Skills).” An examination of these models will show the similarities and differences they have in the context of team building.
Teams are groups of people who work together to achieve a common goal (Learning Team Handbook, p 310). Workplace teams are increasing as businesses find the yield of team productivity and creativity exceeds individual productivity/creativity. To promulgate productive teams, businesses have had to identify common threads for successful teams. Businesses have identified the dynamics and needs of successful teams.
According to Holmes, T (2013), “a high-performance team is a group of interdependent individuals who work together in a specific manner to achieve a common objective.” High-performance teams are differentiated according to their knack to operate at high levels for long spans of time and with efficiency and effectiveness. Teams like this can come in different forms and proportions. Also there are no perfect team models that will fit every organization, but there are many basic traits that appear to reinforce most high-performance teams. As stated in the Holy Bible, Hebrews 10:24-25, “And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.”
According to Cohen and Bailey (1999), a employee team is defined as a collection of individuals who are interdependent in the tasks they perform and who share responsibility for the outcomes. Teamwork is the process of working collaboratively with a group of people, in order to achieve a goal. Teamwork is often a crucial part of a business, as it is often necessary for colleagues to work well together, trying their best in any circumstance. Teamwork means that people will try to cooperate, using their individual skills and providing constructive feedback, despite any personal conflict between individuals (Jones, 2008). The employee teams are like project teams in which they are time limited, produce one time outputs and perform work that involves the application of knowledge, judgment and expertise to the solution of a unique problem (Jackson, 2006).
When we think of the word team, individually many different ideas may come to mind about what a team really is. Some may think of an NFL team (Tennessee Titans), an NBA team (Sacramento Kings), or a NASA astronaut team with such pioneers as Edwin Aldrin, Jr. and Neil Armstrong as members. You might even think of the U.S. Navy, Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, or Marines as teams. In fact they all are, and they have a great deal in common as teams. However, for the purposes of this paper I will examine the characteristics of work teams, as they apply to organizations and I will supply answers to the following questions: What is a team? Where did the team concept come from? What are the types of teams? What are the advantages and disadvantages of having teams in organizations? What does it take to make a team effective?

The components of a good team should be considered. First, a high-performance team must have strong core values to guide attitudes and behavior consistent with the team's purpose. A team can be defined as a group of two or more people that work interdependently to reach a common goal. There are several team types : work teams, management teams, parallel teams, project teams, and action teams. A team leader is a motivator and is very important to the whole team. An effective leader will utilize teammanship to identify their position on various teams and seek out the sources of power to influence each team (Yukl 1989).
Large companies such as Auto Industries use teams to help build their company. Teams have several individuals working together to come up with innovated ideas to help benefit the company as a whole. The managers that are watching the challenges and progression of the team are crucial. The teams are individuals that have different experiences in the work field that come together to build creative proposals to help grow the company.
There isn’t much that is needed to gain success as a team. As long as everyone is on the same page, and focuses towards wanting the same end result, it is very easy to gain success. Some of these features include: Shared Goals, Productivity, Understanding the different roles, Good communication, Personal growth and recognition, Team spirit and mutual respect and Staying open to ‘outsiders’. When all, if not most, of these features taken into account, it makes it very easy to gain a successful team as well as gain a successful outcome. Below I have listed each feature with what they mean.
