Culture is an important part of life to anyone especially when society judges people on how they remain true to their culture. Both South Asia and African countries have a lot of culture. The South Asian and Sub-Saharan African stories tremendously reflect the culture that they originated from. The characters in both of the stories are heavily influenced by their native culture, which brings more respect and shows their status. Mr.Sen’s mother and Mr.Sen is trying to follow their cultures but this results in ruining a lot of lives. Nwanmgba also ruins the life she could have had with her son by letting her culture keep her apart. The basic theme of tying oneself to one’s culture pervades throughout the short story: “The Headstrong Historian” by Chimanda Adichie and in “The Wog” by Khushwant Sing because the strong cultural background creates unfavorable outcomes for the people involved.
