Besides YouTube, Shaw uses her Instagram, Twitter, public Facebook account, and personal website to engage viewers and provide the community different forms of interaction. Viewers communicate by doing things such as commenting, sharing, or even just liking the post. Viewer’s may express satisfaction with the video, such as Jenna Week’s comment on a recent video that says “I love your videos! Please do more yoga videos like this.” Viewers may also choose to give negative feedback, such as when Jackie Ross expresses her concern in the comments of another video stating that it is “unrealistic to cut out sweets completely.” By allowing viewers to comment and give feedback, Shaw is creating a medium of interaction and support for the
1,924,913,929 is the number of views on Youtube for the music video “Gangnam Style” by Psy, whose song was spread worldwide in just a few clicks. When I saw this unrealistic [D2] number of views, I was not astonished by Psy’ popularity but by the powerulness of social media to that can connect two billion people to into one music video. The primary reason that Psy he could earn the title of “The most viewed Youtube video in the history”, and he could become a global star within just a couple of months is the social media, Youtube[D3] . As Psy’s phenomenon demonstrates, social media has been fundamental in our lives and be...

They put stories that are supposedly private. Imagine, stories together with sexual experiences are available and many are also provided with graphics. (Straubhaar and La Rose) Sometimes it reaches to the point that sexual violence is televised. Although it is clearly stated in YouTube’s Community Guidelines and terms of Use that YouTube is not for pornography and sexual explicit content, YouTube still contains videos with nudity and sexually suggestive content. Sexually suggestive content includes explicit texts, nude or semi-nude images and videos shared by texts, emails, and
Before I started this media logging exercise, I thought that I was on the lower on the scale of media consumption compared to my peers. I don’t watch television very often, and I’m not much of a newspaper reader. I get most of my information either from verbal communication or seeing something about it on Facebook, YouTube, or Snapchat, which are by far my most used forms of media. I’ve never been the kind of person who watches the news voluntarily, and I normally end up being the last to know about something happening in the mass media.
Changing has seemed to be the way MTV has survived over the years. MTV has grown very much since it was created. It is no longer only the “Music Television” channel. When ratings started going down, MTV had to branch out. MTV has done multiple studies on what their viewers want. The information found has been taken and used to form the MTV we have today. It is full of other projects that have made MTV very successful.
In bringing attention to the sad state of women in the video game industry and community there is no platform better than the internet, specifically YouTube. The internet is the home of many in the gaming community and has immense potential to be a source of societal change due to the capability of spreading information around the globe in a fraction of a second. In choosing this platform, I draw inspiration from YouTube content creator Anita Sarkeesian’s Feminist Frequency, which is a web based video series that critically examines the representation of women in pop culture (“About”). Sarkeesian has been the subject of ire for her criticism of the video game industry, but her long running series illustrates that the web based video log format can be a great tool due to its accessibility and the ability for customization of content.
It is through the implementation of advocacy strategies through technology integration that have allowed practice to evolve. According to Edwards and Hoefer (2010), communication technology that allows real-time updates and expansive reach include social networking sites, online journals or blogs, and video sharing technology, like YouTube. Social networking sites are online communities that built on social interactions and relationships. In these environments there are opportunities to share ideas that can lead to large scale changes. Similarly, online journals or blogs present idea sharing for those subscribing or interested in the topic selections. Video sharing adds a facet of sharing information that can complement or strengthen a perspective. According to Tetloff, Hitchcock, Battista, and Lowry (2014), videos can encourage partnership, engage a community, and inspire thinking that is not sculpted by a preconceived notion or faculty of negative influence. The use of these technologies provide a social media venue to share messages and connect people to advocate for change and ultimately affect how and what policies are adopted for local and large scale
Even though many companies usually work hard to implement effective search engine optimization (SEO) strategies, they usually consider video marketing and video SEO as a secondary venture. As a result, most businesses either ignore or give very little marketing resources to the internet’s second biggest search engine, YouTube. With the upsurge in video consumption across all devices, however, it is important and prudent that all companies make video content and marketing an integral
The United States’ longest running program is actually a news/talk show called Meet the Press. It began as a radio program in 1945, and had little changes when it was aired on NBC for the first half-hour television broadcast in November 1947. Meet the Press May have been the first talk show to be shown on television, but it wasn’t the first regularly scheduled talk show. Sylvester Weaver produced the first regularly programmed talk show called Broadway Open House from May 1950 to August 1951. Two Veteran Jerry Lester and Morey Amsterdam, who were stand up comedians, shared the hosting duties for this talk/variety program. Broadway Open House was a mixture of routines, singing, dancing and comedy, which would start a trend of new talk shows to soon follow. The Tonight Show staring Johnny Carson, which premiered October 1, 1962, was one of those shows that followed Broadway Open House. With Johnny’s little competition, appearing on his show became one of the first big breaks for many upcoming stars on the road of fame and fortune. His show became so big that Johnny negotiated a deal with NBC to give him 2 million dollars per year, while his taping schedule included twelve weeks of four shows weekly, twenty-five weeks of only three shows a week, and fifteen weeks of vacation. Some of the stars that made got their start on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson were people like Jerry Seinfield, Roseanne, and Gary Shandling. When Johnny Carson decided to retire, his show was given to comedian Jay Leno, making The Tonight Show one of the greatest and longest running shows ever.
Most of the social media services are open for the user to give feedback and participation. The characteristic of openness is enhanced by the philosophy of social media networking and the accessibility of easy to use mechanisms for sharing information, creating contents. Moreover, voting has been encouraged in social media. Openness in social media can be defined by the perceived ease of receiving and giving the information,
In conclusion, the Internet has built up our society, but it could also tear it down with a major Internet black out. The Internet offers great opportunities for technological advancement. It has created a new way of personal, social, and business interactions. I believe the Internet was one of the best creations of time and I cannot wait to see what is in store for the future of the Internet and its relationship with human kind.
