Overall my experiences with my writing circle group has been a good one, which has helped me greatly as a student. This is my first time using the writing center for help with my writing or senior project and it has been a very helpful experience that has allowed me to improve as a student. If it wasnt for my weekly writing circle meetings, I don't know how I would've been able to complete my project without the help of my peers. The most helpful part abut the writing circles was hearing the way my peers were going about their project and using some of the same strategies and approaches that they took for their senior capstone project. Much of what I incorporated into my project was due to the help of my peers. I usually don't use my peers …show more content…
to my advantage and I found that through our writing circle all of us were able to help each other in more ways than not. Coming out of this semester I feel like I have become a better writer because of all the help and tips I have gotten from not only my peers but the circle facilitator as well. I think its very important for me to use the writing circle center in the future because it has been really helpful in improving my writing.
Meeting once a week in our circles also made my project easier becauseit divided it up into sections and I was able to receive feedback from my peers. As our circle facilitator I feel like Krista did a good job with answering our questions and helping us with things that we had trouble with. Through our writing circle meetings I have learned how to better prepare for a paper or project. Prior to this semester I would usually write a paper without outlining my ideas, but the writing circle center has taught me how to use an outline to my benefit. Writing for me has become much easier because of all the things I learned from my peers and our circle facilitator as well. One thing that i feel like couldve better helped me this semester is if we perhaps met one more time per week. I know that students schedules are hectic and not everyone has time to meet with their writing circle twice a week but I feel like I could've done a better job by meeting twice a week with our circle. Meeting once a week was good but I feel like we were very limited in what we could do in an hour, so adding another meeting per week could help solve that issue. Another area which I think would've been more helpful is if we were able to set up one on one meetings with our cicle facilitator so we could discuss our project and get the help we need. At times I was stuck
and didn't know what to do with my project and if we had the chance to set up a one one meeting with our facilitator that would've been very useful.
In the play “Circle Mirror Transformation” by Annie Baker took place at an acting workshop in small town Vermont. Annie Baker presented the characters to the audiences by them getting to know each other in the almost uncomfortably intimate way. In the play, the characters underwent the emotional growth and the knowledge about each other personal issues. Although theater is only pretending yet the play suggested that it is the best way to get to the truth.
...out homework, which was a huge stress relief. The class also offered how to write the base foundation of any paper, which is significant to become a great writer as well as to write a flawless paper. Also, the group activities allowed us to get closer with our classmates. However, I feel like some of the activities we did were mediocre and ordinary. But it is hard to tell what experience each student received from their high school. Some knew more than others, and I was just more grateful with the education I obtained from high school. I was also not fond of buying the books for the class, when it was not a necessity for class. We did not put much use into the books, and they were relatively expensive. I do recommend the class, especially to incoming freshman. It is a great foundation for legitimate college writing classes. I enjoyed learning from you Mrs. Penwell.
i feel as is the writing center is a great resource for writing materials. Not all of the tutors was helping as i thought it will be. If i do have anymore questions or need assist with my papers in the future. I do plan on going to the writing center to get more educated on what i want to write about and how i want to
Casting a circle is one of the most basic magickal acts that a Witch does. Circles are used for rituals and sometimes magickal workings. A circle does a number of things. Most importantly, it protects the practitioner(s) from spirits, negative energies, and other nasty things out there. With that in mind, please be sure to practice with extreme care and be sincere in what you are doing. Abide by the Wiccan Reed* and you should be fine. The circle also serves as a sacred place in which to do ritual workings like sabbat celebrations and certain spells. The circle keeps the energy in a contained area so that it can be concentrated and strengthened as much as possible before it goes out to do its job. So without “further ado” here is how...
I was fortunate to attend two amazing institutions with incredible programs, Centralia College and Washington State University Vancouver. Centralia College provided me with an opportunity to demonstrate the strength of my skills through a six month research based project with the goal of improving training at the Writing Center. The Independent Project enabled me to strengthen my professional skills through interviewing, writing center directors
My groups reading assignment was "Bud Not Buddy" by Christopher Paul Curtis. I notice working in a group is very effective. Reading in a group gives students a sense of understanding and improvement of their socialization skills, it makes it simple compare to reading individually. I would implement literacy circle with my future class because it provides a social interaction with the students. The biggest strengths would be a sense of understanding. Students can interpret the book differently.
For me, being a college writer means writing well-organized essays that readers enjoy reading. Being a well rounded writer was also important. Each unit in this class challenged me to write in a well-organized, concise way. During each unit, we conducted some sort of revision activity where I was exposed to other students’ writing. As I read their work, I picked up on their use of transition words and separation of paragraphs to make the essay flow. Naturally, I began implementing more transition words in my own work and learned the appropriate ways to split paragraphs. The structure of the class was key to the organization of my ideas which was crucial to the development of my essay. During the third unit of this class, we were asked to identify an issue on campus, conduct research on the issue, and finally propose a solution to correct the issue. At first, it was difficult to get my ideas down and figure out what it was I would research. What I learned in class allowed me to first identify the issue I would research, write a rough draft, and hear what others had written before the final paper was due. This helped me to identify the main points, brainstorm and figure out what additional research I would need to find to support my argument. Being able to organize my thoughts from the beginning made writing the paper a much easier process. This course has helped me to grow as a writer and make
This week, I followed up with the girls who went to the activity the District offered last Friday. We talked about their goals and the things they are doing in order to meet them. I emailed the lady who did the speech and we are trying to set up a second meeting, so the girls can talk to her again. This week, I had to deal with a lot of drama with another group of girls. I believe since it is April and the school year is almost over, they are under a lot of stress and that is the reason they keep getting in trouble. Last week, the student got their grades report, so I went over their grade and we worked on the grades they need to improve. I like the fact that the students are not looking for me just because their emotional problems, but also
A high school publications class provides a real life group learning activity that few other classes replicate. Students work as a team to create a newspaper, yearbook, website or broadcast, and while individual assignments are important, the class needs to come together to make sure all the work gets done, is done well and is put together as a whole. I want to see if teaching students to do peer writing conferences would help them become better writers and team members, because they would practice both writing skills and social skills by giving and receiving feedback. However, after some early difficulties with having my students give short, vague, grammar focused writing conferences I want to find out if writing conferences, especially peer writing conferences are useful and how I can improve the comments students make with each other.
Working with a group of individuals was a huge help as it showed me how to think and write with a group of people not just myself. Working with individually allowed for flexibility and adaptability in my writing and working process.
I found the week as a whole a fun, new experience. It was great to meet new people that I may never would have met before joining this class. I am very gracious to have chosen to be a part of this great new experience. This first week allowed me to learn many new things that I did not know before about our friends. The week also showed me many new ways to play games and workout with the integration of dance. I learned how to do some yoga techniques, new stretches, and some new muscle strengthening exercises. The week also helped to improve my leadership skills and collaboration skills. The first week gave me a great first impression and through that impression, I can tell the rest of the semester will be just as great as the first week.
At the beginning of this assignment, we were told to break up into groups of four or five. These groups would go on to be our collaboration groups for this assignment and the rest of the semester. When we first got into these groups, I wasn’t sure how much my group could help me improve as a writer. Now, I would say I couldn’t be more wrong. My collaboration group worked very well together and helped each other develop our essays far beyond the level of quality they could be without the collaboration. For example, my collaboration group pointed out several errors such as missing citations and grammar errors that I either completely missed or forgot to
I wonder how useful and helpful they are. I discover that circle sessions are the most fun and become great motivator for my students. From a practical perspective, circle session promotes asking and listening, demonstrates an important element of respect. At first I needed some time to establish familiarity with the circle framework in order my students begin to engage in the circle sessions, but a while later they realized how enjoyable circles can be. Once I tried this circle session and now I am using it every week. I have noticed that some students take it with great enthusiasm. They create their own games or bring in new ideas from home. We use stories, pictures and video clips, which enable them to discuss emotions and difficult issues. In my opinion, the purpose of the circle session is to support each other in the process of learning. It is important to say that in the process both students and teachers are involved. In general, circle sessions are great choice for the teachers. I have noticed the positive feelings and reflections from my students, which is much more important part of teaching. Everyone interacts with each other and arouses interests of everyone. It is an incredible thing for me that some time passed and students have learnt to avoid put-downs and learn to listen each other. Of course, some students need longer time to start to speak frankly, but very soon they
During this College Composition course, I came across numerous obstacles and educational involvements. Every factor of this course contributed to my overall learning experience. For starters, we often read out of our textbooks, “The Little Seagull Handbook” and “They Say I Say”. These books helped showcase proper writing techniques. In addition, we would have class discussions that everyone would participate in. This opened my eyes to different viewpoints that could influence my writing. I recall one class we had a debate over a topic and everyone had to choose a side to argue. Then when we wrote argument essays, even though they were on a different topic, it helped me view my topic in different ways. Lastly, the most helpful to my writing was peer review. We were told to read our paper out loud to our partner. Although personally I am quiet and dislike reading out loud, I found this very helpful. Instantly, my partner and I could find grammar mistakes that one may not pick up on while reading silently. Then we could also talk about other possible revisions for my paper. For every paper, we would have conferences with the professor. This was effective as well to have a professional giving corrections and ideas. When we would get back our graded rubrics on the assignments we completed, the instructor would leave comments to
I was really impressed on how well organized Alexia Hall was with the class she seem to know where she wanted to the class to be at the end of the semester. We were past out with the class policies and a syllabus of what we were going to do the whole semester. I thought this was very convenient so that there was no mixed signals in the group.
