Listen, in my workplace is very critical for my job because I deal with patients. “The first requirement for listening effectively is to determine your reason for listening” (Wood 156). My job requires that I get detailed information from the patient so that their order is placed correctly and their personal information is correct for payments from their provider. Listening is essential for effective communication. Without effective communication, I will not be able to do my job. My company depends on me to do my job correctly so that they can receive payments on time. Pseudolistening is pretending to listen to what the other person is saying. For someone, my friends always want to talk to me their personal problems they have going on. I have to pretend to listen to them so that they can have someone to talk to about the problems they are having. When I have time, I do listen to their problems, but they seem to call just as I’m leaving work and going home to my family. I enjoy my friend’s conversations it’s just I seem to always be the one to help them come up with solutions to their problems they are having.

The strategy I need to work on about work is interpreting communication. I don’t always agree with my manager because she half does her job and think she has complete her work by herself which is far from true. “To interpret someone on her or his terms is one of the greatest gifts we can give another” (Wood 147). I’m working on overlooking how she is, and I still do my job no matter what.

For my personal life, I need to work on selective listening. I’m tried half the time when my kids and husband talk to me that I only hear half of what they are saying.
