Many people have busy lives and have to learn how to balance out everything in one day, people who struggle with this the most is college students. Many college students have to learn how to juggle school with work and how to put priorities first before anything else, although it sounds easy to do many people still struggle with it quite often. As a student in college, I understand how hard it is to balance out school with work, especially if you’re a full time student and working a retail job. Most students in college pay some kind of bill, whether it’s a car note, phone bill, college tuition or helping your parents out. I understand how hard it is to manage everything all at once. This semester of college I decided to go full time in school as well as work 25+ hours at work, I thought I was able to manage it all because everyone at universities do it, I figured I could too. All of my classes this semester were classes that I needed to earn my degree, so none of them were really easy. My first month of college I struggled because I was working late and never found time to do homework or to study, having that said I struggled the most in …show more content…
Instead of working until 12 a.m., I would come home at 9 p.m., and had a lot more time to study and write papers. Working less hours and focusing more on school helped me tremendously, not only did my papers get better but I also got accepted into Texas State University. When applying at Texas State as a transfer, students have to write an essay so that the university can get to know the students a little better, it took me about 2 months to write my paper just because I wanted it to be really good and have it perfect for them. Taking this class has helped me learn a lot about writing and it really reflected on my essay for the university because I received a letter back from the school saying my essay was
Furthermore, the committed student, even with a busy agenda, can succeed by prioritizing his/her daily activities by importance in his/her academic and personal
A schedule of a student becomes very tight as they need to balance everything out in all ways they can. For example, this year due to me taking a College Now class I have needed to compromise my entire schedule, donating another hour of my life into school. Through the past years of high school my classes started at 8:00 AM, however, now my classes start at 7:00 AM. Along with this class I have regents based classes which I manage such as Physics, English, and U.S. History, yet I take Pre-Calc this year. As a student, I always hear other students around the school complaining about the amount of work they have to do, however, they don’t realize that this work is what leads to their future success. For me complaining is not a valid excuse, as I certainly believe that there should be a deadline for everything because we can manage everything as long as we are determined. A person like me, who receives an assignment, which may be due in the next two weeks will manage their time out and complete it in the next two days, thinking that what if I have more things to do. Throughout all the school years that I have attended, there has not been one assignment that I didn’t complete or didn’t hand it in on time. Where I come from and the teachings of my parents, have taught me that family time and family are two significant parts of your life, which no matter what happens
But many low-income students not only have a full-time course schedule, they also have jobs where they work more than 30 hours per week. Approximately one-quarter of college students’ work while attending school and have both a full course-load and a full-time job (Carnevale, Smith, & Melton, 2015). Working helps students with the living costs as well as tuition and can help students learn skill sets that many employers prefer. However, there are problems with having full-time work while going to college.
It may seem impossible to juggle many things in life at one time; such as trying to get all the assignments completed, and studying done in a short amount of time to make it to work on time. If that was not stressful enough there is also the pressure of making sure to spend time with family. It can be extra stressful when someone has a very big and close family, and a variety of events are to be attended, making sure assignment are completed in order to join the family. Sometimes it may seem that there is simply not enough time in a day to balance school, work, and family which requires a lot of effort, this can seem like a very daunting task because no one ever wants to fail, it is difficult trying to please everyone, and there seems to
Class Conflict The Rising Costs of College College is becoming more expensive and students are working over time to make ends meet. Brigit M. just graduated with a 4.0 GPA from a public college in southern New Jersey. She was a full time student, she worked off campus as a waitress, and she worked 8 to 12 hours a week on campus as a economics and writing tutor. Brigit had a scholarship but it did not cover other expenses such as books, transportation, and health care costs. She had a employer who worked with her school schedule but it was hard for her to come home from work at 11:00 p.m. and still have to write a paper that was due the next morning.
Prepping has become the new fad. A certain show on television has sensationalized the life style and more people are jumping on the band wagon every day. Today, I wanted to talk a little bit about survival or emergency kits. There are several debates out there on whether a kit that will get you through 3 days is going to be enough. Well, we will touch on that…
Successful students learn to manage their time; this can be difficult and requires a student to carefully evaluate and prioritize the challenging factors. First, it is imperative to prioritize your day for an easier daily routine. By knowing what to expect daily nothing is missed or skipped and you meet goals and expectations. What you are attempting to evade is postponing your degree due to overwhelming responsibilities. Once you develop a system with perhaps a daily planner or calendar you ensure your kids and spouse are not neglected from time. Although, your job has a set time of hours, you still have to make time to study and or even attend night school if necessary. According to Barry University (2007), study skills are essential first starting with classroom strategies and then time management second. They state that the first session sets the tone for the class and usually outlines ...
Using saline to clean instruments, however, or excessive soaking of instruments in any fluid-(saline or water) will, over time, display as pitting on surgical instruments. Pitting can be seen as small pockets/divets on the instrument. Once an instrument shows signs of pitting, it “may” be buffed out, however, it is important to note that once pitting shows signs in the boxlocks, the teeth of forceps, or under the insulation in a laparoscopic instrument, due to their complex design, may prove difficult to remove and may even break down the instrument if not addressed in a timely manner.
In today's fast paced world often times we don’t realize how we go through life at full speed never slowing down to just stop and take a breath. Always trying to get to the next appointment, teachers meeting, and get togethers with friends and family; time is fleeting. For the people out there that have no problem with organizing their life I applaud you. Being able to manage everything without missing a beat is something I wish I was accomplished at. But my outside obligations to work, and family are constantly getting in the way of my schooling.
This calls a need for people especially students in college to warm up to the fact that if they are unable to manage their time appropriately while in school it is apparent that as they transition into their working life they will demonstrate the same effects still while on the job.
First of all, you have to learn how to live with a double schedule. When I first came to this country, I got a full-time job in a bank. When I began my studies thinking that I would work only part time. Instead, I quickly realized I could not afford to pay my rent and other expense without working full-time. This meant I would have to maintain a forty-hour or more work every week and fit my courses in whenever I could. Luckily, the community college I wanted to attend had an evening program that allowed me to take courses in the evening and weekends. On paper this looked like a good schedule, but I was shocked to learn that I had no time for social activities or shopping, and very little for homework. The first semester I slept only five hours a night and became so tired that I thought I wouldn’t make it. By the end of the first term, I was sure that with enough determination I would reach my goal.
Attention getter: Being a college student is rough! How many of you agree with that statement? Often our days consist of trying to ace all our classes, while trying to balance all our other responsibilities in between.
In college the workload tends to get tough. The key to success is time management. For me, when the workload gets tough I just think why I am here at college and what I came here to achieve. I always take time out of each day for studying because why come to college and not go to class? It pointless and a waste of time and money. Studying with other classmates & getting work done together definitely helps. Set goals for yourself while you 're in college, it may get stressful but there 's always time to take a nap or a break between classes just to
Through the course of the semester, I have learned how to manage my time in a wise, and well- organized manner. I’ve learned that school and my child need to be my top priorities, and it’s okay to tell work “no” once in a while. I have always been an obsequious towards my employer, even when the circumstances were tight for the other aspects of my life. I have always been told to focus on my top two priorities, as I have anxiety and become over- stressed. This first semester in college has shown me that school needs to be one of my top priorities. Being a young mother, my absolute top priority is my son. This has left me to conclude that work, even though also vitally important, needs to come last.
I had a wrench thrown in my whole world when my boyfriend and I broke up this semester; We live together, and it was very emotionally devastating for me. I stuck to my planner and have not missed any assignments (except the one I mentioned previously). With break ups, there comes stress. I faltered once or twice with doing homework early, but everything got turned in on time. In addition to sticking to the planner, I was lucky enough to find a job that allows me to do homework while working. I sit at my desk, answer phones when it rings, and process transactions at my desk. My laptop sits in front of me at my desk, and I have been very productive. I have completed a lot of assignments early and gotten a head start on almost all of
