Personal Essay This is my first semester in college. Being a new college student, I was very nervous about how college life went about and how I would manage school, work, and raising my child. Thankfully, this class is required for incoming students, or else I never would have thought to take it. Throughout this semester, I have learned more about myself, what I truly value, my personality type, my multiple intelligences, my learning style, and how these are all correlated to my long- term career goal. Through the course of the semester, I have learned how to manage my time in a wise, and well- organized manner. I’ve learned that school and my child need to be my top priorities, and it’s okay to tell work “no” once in a while. I have always been an obsequious towards my employer, even when the circumstances were tight for the other aspects of my life. I have always been told to focus on my top two priorities, as I have anxiety and become over- stressed. This first semester in college has shown me that school needs to be one of my top priorities. Being a young mother, my absolute top priority is my son. This has left me to conclude that work, even though also vitally important, needs to come last. The things that I value in my life are my child, my opportunity to receive an education, my family, the welfare of others, and my future. Throughout my short young- adult life, so far I have concluded that I value these things because they are what touch me the most inside. These things help to keep me motivated, no matter what obstacles are thrown at me. When faced with an opportunity, I will strive to succeed. When staring in the face of adversity, I will overcome. The things that I value are what have morphed me into the person th... ... middle of paper ... ...acles that I will overcome to reach my goal are my very hectic schedule, and my tendency to procrastinate. When I reach this goal, my life will be better because I will be almost half- way finished with my college education, I will have gained abundant information through my experiences, and I will be able to fully support my child without needing help from government programs. My values, personality type, multiple intelligences, and learning style all pertain to my long-term goal. The things that I now value in life, have greatly affected my life in that I want the best not only for me, but my child as well. Before my child, all that I wanted to do was be a tattoo artist. I had no motivation or aspiration to go to college and attempt to secure a concrete career. The many aspects of my life have shaped me into a better person and helped me to find my true passions.
Your values and expectations in life. How do you measure success? Happiness? My values all stem from God the Father and His son Jesus Christ. My family, God and my career are my successes and happiness. My expectations are to be the best I can be and to always keep trying. You can do anything you put your mind to and never give up.
Life, such a broad yet concise topic. A multitude of different people and cultures offer different opinions on what gives life value and how to obtain satisfaction in our lives. For example, the typical “American Dream” is defined as attaining wealth and success through hard work, while many Spanish cultures consider closeness within a family a valuable trait in life. Whether it is family, success, love, or faith, every citizen in each different culture finds what brings him or her joy and does whatever it takes to reach this satisfaction. There are three specific aspects of my life which make life worth living; these include my faith, my family, and the talents I have been blessed with.
The Hunger Games was a critically acclaimed movie when it came out; however, some critics would argue that the movie can be sometimes too violent for its intended audience. In this essay I would dissert Brian Bethune’s essay “Dystopia Now” in order to find its weaknesses and compare the movie Battle Royale with his essay.
Scott Hightower’s poem “Father” could be very confusing to interpret. Throughout almost the entirety of the poem the speaker tries to define who his father is by comparing him to various things. As the poem begins the reader is provided with the information that the father “was” all of these things this things that he is being compared to. The constant use of the word “was” gets the reader to think ‘how come the speaker’s father is no longer comparable to these things?’ After the speaker reveals that his father is no longer around, he describes how his father impacted him. Details about the father as well as descriptions of the impacts the father has distraught on the speaker are all presented in metaphors. The repetitive pattern concerning the speaker’s father and the constant use of metaphors gives the reader a sense that the speaker possesses an obsessive trait. As the reader tries to interpret the seemingly endless amount of metaphors, sets of connotative image banks begin to develop in the reader’s mind. Major concepts that are expressed throughout the poem are ideas about what the speaker’s father was like, what he meant to the speaker, and how he influenced the speaker.
A value is a fundamental belief or practice about what is desirable, worthwhile, and important to an individual. My single most important value is family. I value my family because they are always there for me no matter what I do or say they will always love me. My next value is football. Football is my favorite sport by far and is the most fun to play and watch. I always no I will never be bored watching or playing football. I also value snowboarding. Whenever I am on the mountain snowboarding I forget about everything and just ride, it relieves my tension and makes me happy. I am going to college next year so my next value will be the school I will be attending: University of Minnesota Twin Cities Campus. Spending the ne...
As a young lady, I have been able to develop and procure the benefits of an outstanding education through various situations in my day to day life, both as an intern and as an undergraduate student at Fordham University. Throughout my experiences, I have taken advantage of many learning opportunities. Regardless of any environment, I have the ability to learn and develop as a person. I believe it is my strength to keep going and never give up that has led me to be very well-defined and the changes I undergo every day that passes will lead me to ultimate success. Ever since I was a kid, I have always wanted to accomplish something for myself, my future and change my life forever. I always believed that setting goals and pushing myself towards
The biggest value I have is having a lot of money. Money is the foundation of a happy life! I ranked having a lot of money and family as number one and two because I feel like money is the most important to me. In my opinion, if you do not have money, not necessarily rich status, but enough to get through life living within your means spells a life of struggle. Also family is important to me because family is there to support and love you without any hidden agendas like outside acquaintances might have. I put accomplishing/ achieving at number three because without the number’s one and two to stand behind me I would not have been able to accomplish or achieve half of what I have. Some may say I am an overachiever and I value that opinion very much because that means other see what I see in myself. The last three numbers were the least important to me on the personal value list. World peace is not really that important to me because I really could care less if the world was peaceful as long as it does not affect me. Even though I am still young I placed a life filled with excitement very low because since I had my baby I want her life to be exciting and fun filled, my life is more work and go to school then maybe some fun on the weekend and I am okay with that. When I was a teenager I lived a very fun exciting life and I feel like the rest of my life I can experience other things with my baby girl. The least
I credit my current and future success to an issue I faced as a kid. When I was younger, I had a hearing issue that caused me to fall behind academically, this required me to work in order to catch up, spending my summer vacation working through education programs to get back on the proper academic track. While things have never been easy, I feel that experience helped to develop the work ethic and determination that I have currently. I am a person that needs to work harder than the rest in order to succeed academically, which allowed me to get accepted and thrive at UConn, a Top 20 rated University in the country. My goal is to work as hard as I can so at the end of the day I can look back and have no regrets that I could have done more. I feel it’s this approach that will allow me to succeed in my professional endeavors.
I believe respect and compassion, above all else, will support me in achieving my goals in life, because these two values alone, could help me to achieve my terminal values. Empathy and tolerance were the next in line, as these are essential to my success as a leader in a school, as a colleague, a friend and as a family member. Creativity leads to pleasure and innovation, which is key to my personal and professional success and happiness, but I did not feel was essential to my terminal values. Perseverance had to be a part of my instrumental values. I need to follow-through with the actions I take in order to demonstrate or live by the other 6 ...
When I think about the person I want to become I think about a kind person who wants to make a difference in the world. I want to help and Inspire others and In general just make this world a more positive and loving place. The personal project was an opportunity to not only do something for myself but for others. By doing this I would be able to reach my goal of being the person I wish to become someday by helping others and spreading my positivity. I decided on feeding the homeless because with this I would be able to help others in need and hopefully inspire or make them happy. Feeding the homeless won 't necessarily change the world, but small acts of kindness like this might inspire other people to do them too and If everyone decided to
My personal values include hard work, honesty, achieving success in life, being flexible and helping others. My values evolve around leading a fulfilling lifestyle that allows me to be a supportive, loving and contributing member of my family and community. A clear picture of our personal values allows us to rank the tasks on our "to do" lists according to how closely...
To think that my first semester of college will be over this friday makes me realize how fast time flies. The first few weeks of college were tough, tiring and full of anxiety. Being in a new environment, a different state and not knowing one single person was something that I did not prepare myself for. Throughout all of the tears and the frustrations, I had to constantly remind myself that I am at The University of Akron to gain an education and become a successful individual.
Values can be defined as “a belief about what ought to be, what ought not to be, what is right, or what is wrong” (Chelladurai, 2006). I believe that values ground people and provide the framework for all decisions they make. I have four core values that I use to carry me through life every day and they are faith, family, honesty and passion. Faith is my number one value because I choose to walk by faith every day. To me that means staying strong in my relationship with God and making sure that all decisions I make are pleasing in his eyes. My second value is family. This is not limited to just my immediate or blood-related family. In every decision I make, I ask myself before or after whether it will or whether it did have a negative or positive impact on my family. With my immediate family I ask myself, “Would I be okay with telling Mom this?” I considered my volleyball teammates as family, so every decision I made in college I would consider the impact that it could have on my team as a whole. My third value is honesty. I always want to be honest with myself, honest with those around me and I expect the same from others. I believe that with honesty it is easier to build trust, loyalty and respect all around. The final core value in my life is passion. Without passion for the things one does, they will be just that “things.” I wa...
The main goal in life is to live by our beliefs and our values. These beliefs and values define who we are as a person and create how we behave towards others (Wright, 1). These beliefs and values can be defined as our personal core values. My personal core values include family, trust, honesty, friendship, and creativity, which define who I am, change from past to present, and could change again.
Over the last semester I have learned many things about myself. I have learned that no matter what anyone says I am a strong young woman that can take anything life throws at me. I have also learned a lot about myself as a person and that there is a lot more to the world then just where I grew up. I have also learned that going to a smaller school in high school was a blessing but also was bad for me in many different ways. Through this semester I have learned what my strengths and weaknesses are and how to deal with them. I have learned that some of my strengths are also weaknesses in some way and that to deal with them I must first know what they are. I have also learned what my values are and that sometimes your values change with the things you do. You should also not just settle for things that go against you values. Along with learning what my values are I learned how my personality affects my values. I so the fact that I have more of an internal happy personality affects my values because one of the top values that I have is that I have friends. This relates to the fact that my work interests are more because where I work after college must be a place where I am able to work with people. I am a very socially active person so where ever I work ...
