Reflecting off the “cause and effect” poem “Barbie’s little Sister” by Ellie Schoenfeld, it is difficult dealing with the pressures of the outside world, especially these days. How are you influenced by what you see around you—by images in magazines, in advertisements, in films, in music, and in TV? It seems these days that we are influenced by media and everything in America. Magazines make us want to lose weight and be like the girl in the pictures, which makes be somebody we are not and buy things we do not need. Advertisements and TV are about the same, they make you want things you do not have and eventually buy the product or service. Do they ever make you do things that you shouldn’t, feel bad about yourself, or feel pressured to change or conform? If someone were to spend too much time watching TV, listening to media and playing video games, our behavior and attitude becomes negative, withdrawn and depressing. Just like listening to bad music, it can cause an impact on your life and others around you. To buying things we do not need to self image, it all impacts our minds and makes us think bad things about ourselves and others. My values all stem from God the Father and His son Jesus Christ. My family, God and my career are my successes and happiness. My expectations are to be the best I can be and to always keep trying. My Future career is still ongoing, but I hope to graduate at the end of December 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration.
