I started working as a pharmacy technician last semester. My job is can be extremely different sometimes because I have to deal with impatient customers and their insurance companies on a daily basis. I have worked a 9 hours shift without a break. Nevertheless, I love my job. I feel accomplished and satisfied knowing that I helped in the process of improving others’ health. I became fascinated with the field of pharmacy. It appeals to me as an intriguing and promising occupation.
Moreover, I am able to empathize with the patients and their family members because I had been in their shoes. I know they are not trying to give a hard time on purpose. My mother was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer when I was in high school. I had to take care of her because my father had to work. Being the caregiver of my mother was an arduous task and a great responsibility and it has changed my

life. I waited in the line at the pharmacy for almost half an hour before just to drop my mother’s prescriptions. I struggled with insurances problems when I picked up the medications for my mom and waited for hours because the pharmacist needs to call the insurance company. Although going to the pharmacy was extremely time-consuming, the pharmacist was helpful. The pharmacist resolved all the insurance related problems and she answered all my questions regarding my mother’s medications. I want to be like her someday and be able to give patients a sense of reassurance during their time of needs. On the other hand, I volunteer at Massachusetts General Hospital since freshman year.
I started off volunteering in the department of patient escort services and then I was transferred into the emergency room. For patient escort, I mainly discharge patients and provide assistance to hospital visitors. For the emergency room, I bring patients who come into the emergency room to the imaging department, where they can take their X-rays, ultrasound, or CAT scans. I got the opportunity to interact with physician assistants and other health professionals. In addition to volunteering, I have also shadowed a physician assistant at Children’s Hospital. After interacting with physician assistant and learn more about the career, I soon came to realize that the physician assistant is not the career I want to pursue and I am more interested in the field of pharmacy. I became confident that pharmacy is the right career for me after working at a pharmacy for a several months and got a glance to the occupation. I enjoy learning about all the different medications as well as the healthcare
system. As my transcript shows, I have done well my freshman year and the fall semester of my sophomore year. I am convinced I can meet the academic challenges of the rigorous Doctor of Pharmacy program. I am looking forward to enter this incredible professional program and make a difference in the world of health care.

As time progressed and my experiences grew, they became more redundant and rudimentary. I began to feel that becoming a pharmacist may not meet my expectations in terms of the level of patient interaction and the role I would play as a health care provider. It was at this point that I made the decision to branch off and research other health care professions that could play well to my interests and allow for the level of patient care I was looking for.
I chose a career as a medical assistant because of the rewards I knew I would experience on a daily basis. Seeing a patient smile because I have helped them understand, or just making them feel comfortable with their visit, is just one of the many perks of my job. Upon graduating from an accredited college such as The College of Health Care Professions (CHCP), I now work for one of the most reputable hospitals in my area. Within two short years of committed studies, I obtained my associate of applied science degree, and then went on to obtain my certification as a medical assistant. There is nothing I have found more fulfilling, strong, secure, or rewarding then choosing to become a medical assistant,
Practicing in the medical field is a respectable profession, since its main goal is to help others when they are in need. Although, I’m not sure of what job I will have, I do know that it will be in the field of medicine. I hope through the mentoring program I will be able to decide if a Certified Medical Assistant is the job for me.
My interest in the healthcare field stems from my childhood. My parents and relatives work as doctors, pharmacists, or engineers. Growing up, I listened to how they worked as a team to discuss solutions to make a difference in healthcare and how gratifying they felt when their solution worked. Moreover, I emulated them and dreamed of following them to make a difference as they did. These goals sparked my interest in the healthcare field and I currently volunteer as a pharmacy assistant to educate myself on the healthcare system. As part of the pharmacy team, I look at the patients’ charts and solve problems to satisfy patients’ needs. Every piece of information I received is addressed or forwarded to the appropriate personnel. When I come across documents unrelated to the
...of the university. My role as a pharmacy assistant in the pharmacy I had to stack shelves as well as answer any customer query’s e.g. what gel someone should use for a verruca, this gave me an opportunity to broaden my knowledge about medication and the uses of different medication.
My passion for the PA career solidified when I encountered a two-year-old girl who had Down syndrome and Leukemia. During the six months that she was admitted in the hospital, I witnessed the perseverance and dedication that the Doctors, PAs, and Nurses had in order to cure this little girl. Their persistence, care, and tenacity are what ultimately led to her recovery. Their drive is what inspired me to visit her on every shift. During my visits, I would help with cleaning and feeding her; depending on how she felt, I also played with her. I wanted to transpire the same care that the medical team displayed for her. Even though I am keeping an open mind, I hope to be a part of a medical team that is able to treat patients like her. My exposure to such a diligent and dedicated team showed me what I must do, to treat my patients in an effective and caring
Outpatient hospital pharmacy requires strong communication skills, especially with co-workers. I will also need to continue my education and training throughout my career to stay up to date on the latest medication available for my patients. One pharmacist reported in the APhA Career Survey that pharmacists in this field should be willing to work in different environments. I think I would be a good fit for the major responsibilities of outpatient health system pharmacy. I like to talk to people, and I believe I am good with forming relationships with others. Communication should not be a problem, and lifelong learning should not either. I am looking forward to keeping up with the advances in the medical field. I am not entirely sure what “different environments” means, but I am willing to try anything.
... me a glimpse of what occurs in a pharmacy and pharmacy school classrooms. The days of working with computers in school and at work also helped me to effectively input prescriptions into a pharmacy database. Being amongst health care professionals inspires me to want to be a pharmacist more and more each day.
I still intend on following through with the pharmacy track. It still peaks my interest, and I am excited to learn all I can concerning the field. At this time, I believe a community pharmacy or an outpatient health system pharmacy would be the best choice for my future career. I would be able to interact with patients every day and to form relationships with them and my colleagues. I would also have a regular schedule. I am acquainted with my hometown pharmacists, and I have completed a shadowing opportunity with them already. I intend to shadow in different environments if possible, as well. I also still have a dream of working in pediatrics, so I hope I can still pursue that career
Not everyone has a distinguishable moment in their life when they uncover their true calling and I am living proof of that statement. Growing up, I wanted to become a forensic scientist; that dream changed when I took general chemistry in high school. I fell in love with the subject because it made me think about the complexities of the world around us. Three more chemistry courses and one anatomy course later, I decided I wanted to pursue a career in pharmacy. Believe it or not, it was not just the classes that made me fall in love with the idea of being a pharmacist. The most commendable aspect of pharmacy is the bond between the pharmacist and the visiting patients. As a pharmacy technician at Walgreens, I have the opportunity to observe
Throughout my life, I have worked towards one goal which is to become a doctor. Medicine offers the opportunity for me to integrate different scopes of science while trying to improve human life. Medicine has intrigued me throughout all my life because it??s a never ending mystery and every answer has questions, and vice versa. Upon entering my career, I had assumed that professional and financial success would surely bring personal fulfillment. This realization triggered a process of self-searching that led me to medicine. The commitment to provide others with healthcare is a serious decision for anyone. As I examined my interests and goals, however, I underwent a process of personal growth that has propelled me towards a career as a physician. A career in medicine will allow me to integrate thoroughly my passion for science into a public-service framework. Since childhood, I have loved acquiring scientific knowledge, particularly involving biological processes. During my undergraduate studies, I displayed my ability to juggle competing demands while still maintaining my academic focus; I have succeeded at school while volunteering part time, spending time with family and friends, and working part-time. To better serve my expected patient population, I worked over my English and Korean language skills. I have come to discover that a job and even a good income, without another significant purpose, will not bring satisfaction. I planed to utilize my assets, namely my problem- solving affinity, strong work ethic, and interpersonal commitment, to craft a stimulating, personally rewarding career in medicine. I have taken stock of myself, considering my skills, experiences, and goals. I have looked to family and friends, some of whom are doctors, for advice. Because of this self-examination, I have decided to pursue a career in health care. The process has been difficult at times but always illuminating. Throughout it all, I have never lost confidence - the confidence that I will actively absorb all available medical knowledge, forge friendships with fellow students, and emerge from my training as a skilful and caring physician.
Upon beginning my clinical internship I was leaning towards becoming a pharmacist, however my internship opened my eyes as to what a pharmacist actually does, to which I realized I no longer wanted to be a pharmacist. However, I was, and still am, extremely interested in being a pharmacy technician, and I plan to obtain a position as a part-time pharmacy technician while in college. Although I am not going to pursue a long term career in the pharmaceutical field, this clinical experience was still exceedingly
