My journey towards the field of optometry began in an unsuspecting place; a tiny pharmacy situated inside of a local medical facility. Throughout high school, I spent my time outside of class behind a counter, shadowing and working for a pharmacist who instructed me on the many facets of the profession. I always knew I wanted a career in the field of health, and the more I experienced the more I was certain that becoming a pharmacist was the perfect profession for me.
As time progressed and my experiences grew, they became more redundant and rudimentary. I began to feel that becoming a pharmacist may not meet my expectations in terms of the level of patient interaction and the role I would play as a health care provider. It was at this point that I made the decision to branch off and research other health care professions that could play well to my interests and allow for the level of patient care I was looking for.
The basis for my interest in optometry stems

Shaheen’s clinic. My responsibilities entail managing the practice’s medical billing and administering VEP and Pattern ERG tests. I also helped the practice transition from the dated ICD-9 to the current ICD-10 which gave me a preview as to how CPT codes and diagnosis codes relate to one another. Overall my experience has been overwhelmingly positive and has grown my passion for optometry.
One part of the practice in particular that I really enjoy is working with our patients. I believe that in order to become an effective health care professional one must have the ability to transcend the medical jargon and communicate on a more personal level to turn the patient’s experience into something more than a “checkup”. This patient-doctor relationship is what motivates me to become an optometrist. I aspire to instill trust and confidence in patients under my care with hopes that it will lead to consistent and reliable experiences for
I have observed and carried out many ophthalmic procedures such as pre-testing and dispensing. Additional clinical checks are carried out using fundus camera which enables the optometrist to analyse the back of the eye and visual fields test which measures the peripheral vision. Being able to adapt to ophthalmic dispensing skills and applying them in practice has been constantly improving my skills. The practice management module has helped me communicate with patients and improving my listening skills not only demonstrates team work but the skill to listen and act upon constructive criticism to evolve as a better

As a student who is both fascinated with science and desires a career that is dedicated to improving people’s lives, the profession of optometry is a natural fit for me. Wanting to learn more about the profession, I began shadowing several optometrists throughout my time in high school and college. I shadowed in various settings, including two retail chain stores, an ophthalmology office, and a private practice. My goal was to soak up everything about the experience, learning as much as I could from the optometrists as they interacted with patients and assessed their ocular health. I was amazed at how much I was able to learn just from observing other optometrists! One of the most memorable experiences I had while shadowing was when a patient came in with shingles, which the optometrist, Dr. Chelsey Clemens, confirmed was spreading onto her cornea. Dr. Clemens promptly prescribed an antibiotic gel to the patient. It was exciting to observe this patient receive this much-needed care from her
There are a lot of reasons why I chose to pursue pharmacy as my career and they all point to the most important reason: pharmacy is a great fit for my life and is something I have become increasingly passionate about. It started when I was researching careers with my parents and my dad suggested pharmacy and, simply put, it sparked my interest because at the time it was one of the few things I thought I would not hate doing. A healthcare career has always been where I put myself in the future, mainly because most of my family members are in the healthcare field. However, I have never been one that could directly help the wounded or deal with anything gory, but am very intrigued by the growing science of pharmacy. As I continue exploring pharmacy, the more I enjoy learning about it and feel like I could excel in this career.
I am applying for Diagnostic Radiography BSc as I am interested in having a role in a modern healthcare setting where I can incorporate my love for technology and my great interest in human anatomy to produce high quality images of what is happening within the human body. I am also intrigued by the fact that the course entails the study of physiology and pathology alongside with human anatomy. The combination of the technology and science makes Diagnostic Radiography the perfect course for me as I can picture myself excelling in a career where I am helping others through my fascination with the continual development of technology, particularly in a medical sector whereby diagnosis is made far more easily than in the past. Studying and working
The on staff optometrists should be trained and skilled in the very latest field innovations. This will help deliver the reassurance you need that you're receiving a reliable diagnosis and treatment from your chosen professional.
These interactions continued fuel my dedication to one day become a medical professional as thoughtful, empathetic, and passionate as the medical professionals I have observed and learned from. I had my first professional encounter with the field of Podiatry when I began shadowing a foot and ankle surgeon. Through the encounters with patients and observations of the clinical and surgical aspects of the field, I developed a passion for the significance of Podiatric care and a desire for the opportunity to pursue a career as Doctor of Podiatric Medicine. Through my passion and determination to contribute to the treatment and care of others, as well as the lessons I have learned from those who I have worked with and observed, I have realized what a career medicine means to me: inspiration. Medicine is about inspiring strength in others through the exceptional care that it provides. It is about inspiring hope in the most hopeless of situations. That is why I have chosen to pursue not only a degree, but a lifetime of passion, learning, and caring for my community as a Doctor of Podiatric
Since my early schooling days, science and mathematics have always fascinated me given that all components of the world are explained on the basis of these disciplines. In this regard, Pharmacy which is based on Chemistry and Mathematics has interested me a great deal as it has direct impacts on our daily lives. The more I have become familiar with the chemistry and mathematics knowledge involved in pharmacy, the more I have appreciated its significance in improving the lives of people in the community. Out of the many careers that one would opt to pursue, Pharmacy has stood out as the career that will enable me serve the society more directly and have a real impact in the quality of peoples’ lives by touching their health. In addition, I love a career that is challenging and one that I will be involved in even in old age. In this case, Pharmacy offers me this opportunity. My interest in Pharmacy has also developed from my personal health experiences and becoming aware of its expansiveness. Every time I have had to take medicine to cure an illness, I have become more interested to know how drugs are made and how the drug components work in the human body to alleviate pain and restore health. I desire to pursue a career in Pharmacy so as to gain practical experience in these aspects of research.
...t in the field of optometry. Dr. Peterson showed me that it is important to understand how to deal with insurance companies, and how important it is to follow-up with paper works because there will be times one is required to run the front desk when the receptionist is not available. At Eye Maxx I also learned how to take the distance between the pupils using the pupilometer and how to manually measure it with the ruler. I was given the opportunity to take patients PD, which excited me as I felt that gratifying feeling that I was hoping to obtain in my career.
During the tenure of five years of undergraduate program I studied variety of different courses including Biochemistry, Anatomy, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pathology, Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Technology, Pharmacognosy, etc. but always found myself more inclined towards pharmacology, physiology and pharmacotherapy of all the different courses I studied and with passing time my interest just grew stronger. In the commencement of undergraduate program, studying different drugs and their mechanisms, diseases and modes of their therapy was merely an interest but by the time my undergraduate degree program ended it became more of a passion. It was for this passion that I decided to pursue a post graduation degree in the respective field. Before I could go any further in academics I wanted to have some practical exposure and consequently, I decided to join a hospital rather than a pharmaceutical industry. Hence, after fighting off a tough competition from all over the country I was recruited among the twenty pharmacy graduates in a year lengthy “On-the-Job Hospital Pharmacist Trainee Program” in July 2013 and currently, I am working as a trainee pharmacist in the most preeminent hospital of the country, Aga Khan Ho...
From a young age, I was drawn to the healthcare field, not because of the amount of money doctors, nurses and other health professionals made, but because of the dedication and contentment I saw on their faces helping someone in need. Growing up everyone wanted to become a doctor or a nurse and as a little child being a doctor or a nurse was a profession many parents wanted their child to pursue as a career. Needless to say, I fell into that category because I wanted too. However, that dream came to a halt.
Where I see myself in the next 10 years or so is working in something that has to do in the medical field or something similar. Ever since I was little and getting my eyes checked regularly, I became interested in the job of optometry. Although I haven't really gone into depth with this career, this research paper will give me the opportunity to not only help me but see what other things I need to prepare if I continue to go with optometry.
This showed me how compassionate conversations between physician and patient can establish the trust and hope in physician patient relationship. After this experience I always made sure that my patients understand well about their disease

Having completed various work placements in healthcare, I have come to the realisation that Optometry is the right career path for me, as it combines my interest of ocular science as well my desire to help others. My interest in ocular science stemmed from….. My work experience at Optical Express greatly underpinned my interest in optometry, as I saw what I had been researching being actually practiced. I was able to gain an insight into various aspects of the job, from filing, assisting patients on choosing various eye-care products to listening to their queries and sitting in on eye tests.
