People have all different kinds of values, wants, needs, long-term goals, and short-term goals. Their differences come from many places such as religion or age. These differences are what makes each individuals values, wants, and needs make them unique to each person individually. My values, wants, needs, long-term, and short-term goals are all unique to myself. A value is a fundamental belief or practice about what is desirable, worthwhile, and important to an individual. My single most important value is family. I value my family because they are always there for me no matter what I do or say they will always love me. My next value is football.     In the poem “The Silken Tent”, the poet starts the poem with the word ‘She’ which indicates that the poem is about a women. The words “she is as” indicates a use of metaphor, relating a women to that of a tent. In some interpretations this poem can refer to a special ‘she’ but in this interpretation it refers to the position of woman in society - in general. Although the poem sounds relaxed and peaceful, like ‘the sunny summer breeze’, the underlying message is about the bondage of woman in ‘silken ties’ to the family and society. The whole poem is a single sentence that is of fourteen lines. This poem is an English sonnet or more commonly known as a Shakespearean sonnet. This poem is arranged in such a way that the line endings do not coincide with natural pauses - such as the end of line two: someone reading the words "a sunny, summer breeze / has dried the dew" would not necessarily pause after "breeze", this technique is called enjambment. The poem has an iambic pentameter. In “the silken tent”, woman’s characteristics are implied being soft, smooth, strong, responsible, extraordinary, graceful, spiritual, and confidant, carefree and loves everyone and everything. She dreams to fall in love and have her ‘superman’ there to save and protect her when she needs him, like a fairy tale. The composer has used the technique of rhythm to engage the audience to listen and allow a connection in the mood and purpose of the song. This technique can be shown through the assessable lyrics and simple chorus. The composer has also used repetition with the words “in his arms” to signify the sense of wanting to belong and feel secure in a relationship. The alliteration used “Like Lois Lane” enhances the audience to remember the lyrics easily and establish the connection with a fairy tale love of movie stars and make believe stories. From the chorus we are shown that she is naïve, as she wishes upon passing cars, which suggests that she is still young but longs for a relationship or for someone to sweep her up and take her away. Alliteration can also be located in the lyrics “Still, she smiles” and “she says” these two lines give a sense to the audience that the girl is covering for her desire of wanting to belong in a relationship as she is still searching. As her desire to belong has driven her to start looking for “A sign lost in the abyss” it relays to the audience that her love is nowhere to been seen. However, the song goes on to say “To lift her up and take her anywhere, Show her love and climbing through the air, Save her now before it’s too late tonight” This verse suggests that she has a sense of not belonging where she is and if left alone may become suicidal. It is for this reason she desires for her ‘superman’ to save her from herself, her life and be there to protect her, keep her safe and secure.
