Knowing yourself and what you value is a key step to success and self-awareness. As I learn more about myself and realize my values through this class and one of my past classes, I have become more self-aware and how I can fit into groups and organizations. Values are very essential and can guide people’s behavior in life. A few are family, education, and determination. Family to me is the most important value. My family supports me through whatever I do, and they motivate me to do the best that I can. They have also have and taught me values that I now also value. Education is also important to me. While kids in America have the luxury of going to school and having free education usually up to high school, people like my parents did not have that luxury. They only got through elementary school because that was what their family could afford for them. Their experience has changed my perspective on education and has made me value it more. Everyone has their own personal values that the gain throughout their lives. Some of these values are passed down through the different generations of their family. Values can change over time and some people learn more values as they grow up. I personally have gained a range of different values in the past eighteen years of my life. My own values include: respect, honesty, empathy and trust. I gained the value of respect through my parents as I was always told to show respect to others and they would then show me respect back.
