WK4 Handling Conflict Discussion Handling conflict is not an easy thing to do as we often times are faced with life's circumstances daily, we encounter problems and situations all the time and some people often shy away from conflict simply because they do not like conflict so they simply try to avoid it at all cost, but conflict is inevitable we are going to have problems but the specific question is how to handle conflict? The main conflict that Wes Moore faced was surviving and overcoming the troubles and influences in the environments he grew up in. Wes went through many experiences, several of them having to do with the worrying activities that went on around him everyday. Many people enjoy working or participating in a group or team, but when a group of people work together chances are that conflicts will occur. Hazleton describes conflict as the discrepancy between what is the perceived reality and what is seen as ideal (2007). “We enter into conflicts reluctantly, cautiously, angrily, nervously, confidently- and emerge from them battered, exhausted, sad, satisfied, triumphant. And still many of us underestimate or overlook the merits of conflict- the opportunity conflict offers every time it occurs” (Schilling, nd.). Conflict does not have to lead to a hostile environment or to broken relationships. Conflict if resolved effectively can lead to a positive experience for everyone involved. First, there must be an understanding of the reasons why conflicts occur. The conflict must be approached with an open mind. Using specific strategies can lead to a successful resolution for all parties involved. The Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument states “there are five general approaches to dealing with conflict. The five approaches are avoidance, accommodation, competition, compromise, and collaboration. Conflict resolution is situational and no one approach provides the best or right approach for all circumstances” (Thomas, 2000).
Approaching Conflict Analysis In American history, major issues plagued the country and the mind of it’s citizens. Specifically, in the South, the viewpoints of races altered throughout the 1900s and to present time. While there is no doubt that racism is manifested into everyday lives, there is still turmoil over solving the situation. Conflict is a state of open often prolonged fighting such as the battle or war. They can be things as harmless a small argument or something as big and devastating as a war. Conflict plays into a lot of our lives and exists throughout all time, and does not just pertain to any one such area. Although there are many types of conflict, religion is the biggest source of conflict, many disputes are caused by people's religious beliefs because we all tend to believe differently than one another, and that can, and does, lead to conflict. An example of this would be, Al Qaeda fighting to overthrow the government because they're doing what they believe religiously to be right. Other examples would be bombers at the 2014 Olympics or the hunting of sea mammals in Japan and how it follows the religion to do these things. When people don't agree on what should be done in these situations conflict sets in.
We each possess unique ideas, opinions, beliefs, and feelings about specific situations in life. This uniqueness is a large part of what makes us human. Because we all have our own individual way of looking at things, we each have a different viewpoint on what is proper or improper. With all that variation in society conflict is inevitable! Conflict is antagonistic in nature and we all must find ways to work through conflict issues both at work and at home. This paper describes different types of conflict, the influences I personally had in learning to deal with those conflicts, some of the conflicts that I commonly experience, how I go about dealing with those conflicts, and how conflict affects me on a personal level.

Conflicts are normal in every type of organisation because people have diverse opinion and some individual may display their reluctance in accepting the opinions of others. It is true that conflicts are inevitable aspect of organisational life. However, it can be dangerous for an enterprise if it faces too many conflicts (Spaho, 2013).
Dealing with the fundamental problems in conflict requires us to deal with the underlying factors in our emotions first and foremost. That can be very difficult for some people because many of us have a hard time dealing with and understanding our emotions. However, there is some good news also when we get past that first step and learn to understand our emotions. “When emotions are hidden and disguised the dispute becomes a labyrinth, with layers and layers of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors so concealed that the conflict seems inevitable and insoluble.” (Scheff, T.J. 1994. p. 14) We are then prepared to resolve our conflicts in a more efficient and effective manner. Conflict fuels a simple “fight or flight” reaction within us that causes our stress levels to rise. This
