Willpower Someone once said “When life puts you in tough situations, don't say “why me?” say “try me”. Willpower means with strong determination. It is used as a noun in literature. Willpower also means with self-control, restraint, or self-discipline. The word willpower originated in the 1870’s, and is important because when one is in a tough situation strong determination is needed to get the task done. Without willpower one has nothing. One example of willpower is when someone is in a race and they really want to get 1st place. That person has to have strong determination to finish with the best time. Temple Grandin, The Clever Class, and Children of War are the three nonfiction literature examples that display the most willpower. Temple …show more content…
As a child, she became a crusader for girls’ education. Which then resulted in the is Taliban issuing death threats and notes against her, and they ended up shooting her. Malala always had the willpower on girls’ education and never gave up once! “I worked hard and managed to regain my purpose on the school honors board for the first in class.” Malala always had the willpower to do everything and anything she set her mind to. She knew she could achieve anything. “I was a bit nervous, but I knew it was important, as many people all over Pakistan would be listening.” She knew even though everyone was terrified including herself that she had to keep standing up! “People knew I was different. But not less.” Temple Grandin understood what she had, but she knew she was not less than anyone else. She did what anyone else could do. She knew she could push through everyday, no matter how hard and how long it took. Temple is not different, but she is unique! “We’re focusing so much on academics that we’ve taken out things like, art, sewing, cooking, woodworking, music, and other things that introduce kids to careers.” Temple Grandin is trying to explain and tell the world that it is not all about academics. She had the tremendously strong willpower to prove that what she was thinking was actually right. She wanted people to stop worrying about all academics and more about the arts, sports, and the creativity of all of it. Because if not, only the few students that excel at academics are
Although, Malala was in the twenty-first century at the time. Malala’s life in the foreign country of Pakistan was harsh and apprehension filled, unlike Craig’s domestic and straightforward life. In Malala’s homeland, women were not given the rights they deserved. They were forced to be shrouded in clothing, they were not allowed to be independent and they did not have the privilege to gain a comprehensive education. This greatly disturbed Malala. Unlike Craig, Malala’s support of her encouraging family and culturistic beliefs, motivated her to make a difference. In the same way as Craig, Malala’s broad goal was for rights for children. In contrast, Malala’s specific focus was on education for younger females. Similarly like Craig, Malala’s cause and courageous actions were noticed, at first local then eventually global. On the path of liberation for all, Malala faced the situations of death threats and attempts of assassination, unlike Craig whose life was never put at risk. Malala is an extraordinary independent women, who is determined for women of all ages to get the rights they deserve.
“I am excited that today I have achieved my dream of going back to school. I want all girls to have this basic opportunity.” Malala Yousafzai said. Malala yousafzai is a teen activist just like Alex Lin and Alex Libby. Teen Activism is when a teen decides to change something in the world, and they stand up for their opinion. What it takes to become a teen activist is, when something has happened, and teens go and make a difference. Teen activists fight for what they believe in, and they are always trying to change the world.
She was Passionate about girls’ rights and education. According to the “Jonathan Stewart interview” she believed that girls are more powerful that boys and if you educate a woman you educate the whole family. When Malala was 15, she and two other students were targeted by a masked gunman fro the Taliban. Tragically, Malala was shot in the head, which was a major turning point in her life. It was a new beginning for her. She decided to speak for others like her who wanted to be free to go to school like any other normal kid. Her decision to fight for those who don’t have a voice or courage to stand up for themselves wasn’t easy. Beyond being only 15 years old, there were many challenges she had to face. The biggest challenge she overcame was the danger she faced by advocating for her cause. Instead of allowing the fear of her being killed get to her she used it as a tool to motivate herself and persevere through the tough times. Her success has changed that lives of many. She is still speaking out about girls education
Malala had a huge impact on her community which was located in Swat Valley. She was the only women who was brave enough to stand up to the Taliban. Whenever a women would stand up to the Taliban they would kill them because they didn’t want the women to have a education. Since the women didn’t want to get targeted by the Taliban nobody stood up until Malala took action. According to the article “she began blogging for the British Broadcasting Company’s (BBC) Urdu site about what her life was like under the Taliban.” Since she wrote about how she had a dream of becoming a doctor one day, her fears of the terrorists, and her fierce determination to get the education, this warned everyone one and in May 2009 the Pakistani army launched a attack
Pakistan’s Prime Minister stated that “She is (the) pride of Pakistan, she has made her countrymen proud. Her achievement is unparalleled and unequaled. Girls and boys of the world should take lead from her struggle and commitment.” Malala has been able to reach millions of people with her message, and has changed countless lives in the process. She has even started a fund that raises money for girls to get an education. The fund, the Malala Fund, allows girls to achieve 12 years of an education in safety “so that they can achieve their potential and be positive change-makers in their families and communities.” Such a commitment will change inumerous girls’ lives in multiple countries, so that they can have an opportunity for education and be able to escape oppression. Malala has demonstrated many traits of an archetypal hero; courage, perseverance through a traumatic experience, and wisdom beyond her years. This has proven her to be an archetypal hero, but also a heroine that has paved the way for girls to obtain equal rights, and an education; all while defying the Taliban, and putting her life at risk to accomplish equality around the
Malala continues to be humble even as she explains how she is the youngest person to ever receive a Nobel Peace Prize. Pakistan is runner up for the country with the most children out of schooling, and it angered Malala that girls were being forced out of an education. In this speech Malala tries to pursued world leaders to stand up for the millions of children not receiving the education they deserve. She challenges them to take action and make education their top priority. Towards the end of her speech Malala says “Why is it that countries which we call strong are so powerful in creating wars but are so weak in bringing peace”. Malala chooses to use strong points like this throughout her speech to stir up emotions in the audience. Although Malala was almost killed for speaking out against the Taliban, she doesn’t hold back her opinions during the speech. While writing her speech Malala had to realize that although she was in a room with a few hundred very important people, millions of ordinary people around the world would be listening as well. Malala’s role as an advocate for the education of young girls would influence the context of her speech. Although she had told her story numerous times before, this was the chance where she could use her words
According to a article Malala the powerful by kriston lewis Yousafzai is teenaged girl who lives in Swat valley with her dad. It started when the Taliban took over Swat valley. Later they took away the freedom of girls going to school. They did it because they believe that education is power. Even tho that were forced to shut down schools for girls Malala's dad kept his school open for girls. Malala started talking radio stations of what's happening where she is but, Being a teen activist can have consequences. On October nine 2012 as she was on the bus from school she was shoot in the head by a Taliban gunmen. She went to a hospital in England where she recovered and went back to Swat valley to keep fighting it took awhile but, Finally she was able to push the taliban out Swat valley. Malala is now talking on TV shows writing books about her life and even won the nobel peace prize. Malala
Malala, not only wanted women's rights for herself, but for all the people in the world that faced discrimination. She believed all women and children deserved the right of an education. “I speak not for myself but , but for all girls and boys….I am here to speak up for the right of education of every child. i want education for the sons and the daughters of all the extremist especially the Taliban.”Malala spoke these words in her speech at United Nations. She made it clear for everyone that not only was she fighting for herself, but everyone else as
To begin, many teens become activists through their own personal experience. For instance, Malala Yousafzai, a twenty year old Pakistani girl who stands up for girl’s education. When she was just fifteen years old, Malala experienced a life-changing event on her way to school. She was shot at point blank by a Taliban, for standing up for girls education and what she believed in. According to doctors, the bullet hit her skull, went through her cheek and to her shoulder. It took a miracle and five hours of surgery to keep her alive and breathing. “My weakness, my fear, and my hopelessness died on that day,” Malala declared during her interview with Ellen DeGeneres on the Ellen Show. She continues to spread the hope that one day, every girl in
While on her journey to receive education rights for all people, she and her dad were threatened every day. She wasn’t afraid, and she knew that her family would do their best to keep her as safe as possible. She was probably scared at first, but she went on to conquer her fears and overcame the threats thrown at her and her family. “What terrifies religious extremists like the Taliban are not American tanks or bombs or bullets, it’s a girl with a book” (p. 14). This quote shows her insuppressible amount of courage, more than most people have. She continued to be courageous and have hope for the future, knowing that whatever is bound to happen, will happen. Even after being shot, Malala showed great amounts of courage. She wasn’t afraid, and she even said, “They thought that the bullets would silence us” (p. 13). Malala kept her head held high, and showed no fear, for if she did, she could have gotten herself killed. “I wasn’t scared, but I had started making sure the gate was locked at night and asking God what happens when you die” (p. 14). She said it herself, she wasn’t scared; hence, the amount of courage it took to say that was unsurmountable. Without courage, not many things would be possible. In addition to perseverance and courage, you also need plenty of strength to overcome
She never gives up in what she believes in and she has inspired millions to do the same thing. She came from a place in this world were they depressed women's rights and the right to speak but that never stopped her from becoming a leader. All her life she has been speak up when she still lived in Pakistan she wrote a blog for BBC for what it is like living under the Taliban. She has given many speeches and with that comes death threats and bullets. The death threats did not scare and neither did the bullet that shot her, the Taliban thought that it was going to silence her, but nothing changed besides weakness, fear and hopelessness died and strength and power was born. She was determined to let education be a basic right for everyone. She is one of the braves persons I know. Especially for being a young teenage year she is the generation that is shaping our
“When the whole world is silent, even one voice becomes powerful” (Inc). Malala has gone through and achieved so many things in her age. Coming from a family of progressive thinkers and educationist, she was like her father Ziauddin Yousafzai an education activist, who runs a school just adjacent to their family home. Malala has won many awards for her great accomplishments one being a Nobel Peace Prize. The Taliban seeing this voted to kill her. A gunman shot her in the head, but she survived; after she recovered she created the Malala Fund. Malala, a strong and brave 18 year, became a woman’s education activist when she was young after the Taliban had taken over Mingora, Pakistan.
Imagine being at school like any other day when suddenly a gunshot is heard and a body falls to the ground. That was a sight seen by some of Malala Yousafzai’s classmates around the school one day. Young Malala at the age of 14 was demanding to the Taliban to go to school after the Taliban forced the closure of her school. When she did this she became an icon for 32 million girls worldwide (Blackwell). All people should respect Malala Yousafzai because she over came an assassination attempt and she tells people about it while she still embraces education worldwide.
But Malala has plenty of time, and I have no doubt that she will distinguish herself again and again with her moving speeches, her gentle, stubborn nature, and her unique view of life in years to come. I hope that there will be more books by Malala in the future about why education is so important for girls around the world.
“Successful people strive no matter what they feel by applying their will to overcome apathy, doubt or fear”. This quote was said by author Dan Millman who lectures in the personal development field. Arguments over the differences between motivation and willpower have always been prevalent. Through blogs, and articles, I have read different opinions on the topics and gotten to understand both sides. Although motivation can inspire great things, ultimately, willpower is why people do what they do.
