Will to Live Foundation
Turning tragedy into triumph is easier said than done, but somehow while facing unimaginable loss, the Trautwein family did just that. On October 15, 2010, John and Susie Trautwein lost their teenage son Will to suicide. In the midst of their grief, they made a decision to honor the memory of their son’s life by committing to save the lives of other teens. The Will to Live (WTL) Foundation was founded and they have been dedicated to their mission of preventing teen suicide ever since.
Developing a long-term strategy and performance metrics are Trautwein’s top priorities. With these objectives in mind, this group focused on four components for further analysis. The internal and external factors that the organization is facing were analyzed, which allowed a definition of WTL’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. John Trautwein’s leadership style was observed, which provided characterizations of his traits and helped to identify his abilities as President of WTL. The foundation’s mission and program initiatives were evaluated in an order to determine their effectiveness. Lastly, WTL was considered from a donor’s perspective, in an order to identify motivating, and deterring factors. Further explanation of this analysis is continued below.

Tim Thomas decided to drastically change his life by giving everything he has to seven people, in order to save or improve their life in order to “make up” for the seven lives that were lost as a result of his carelessness. He gave a part of his lungs to his brother, a piece of his liver to a social worker, a kidney to a hockey coach, his home to a mother of two children but there were still two more that he needed to help. So he took his brothers IRS credentials and found Emily who was in need of a heart and Ezra who needed two eyes. He determined that both were good and deserving people that were worthy of the gift so he committed suicide in order to enhance their quality of life.
It has 3 staff members in its Southern California Office; 2 staff members in its Northern California Office; and 1 staff member in its Central California Office (Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation, n.d.). Actually, the total number of full-time employees of the Foundation is 6 for all its three branches. This is an indication that the organization may be suffering from financial resource constraints, which makes it unable to hire an adequate number of full-time employees, especially if it truly intends to achieve its objectives and goals. Poor financial resource and inadequate staff present a threat to the survival of this Foundation. Therefore, the Foundation tries to correct this deficit by implementing volunteer programs to assist in the running of its activities and programs (Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation, n.d.). However, the overreliance on volunteers is also not healthy for an organization because volunteers require a lot of financial, material, and time resources to be invested in training them, which is evident that the foundation lacks. The end result is that most of the organization’s programs are never
The VJG has resources to raise funds, but it does take effort, time, and money to do this. Roshi Bull-Turner is the Development Associate of VJG, and it is her responsibility to manage the resources from the fund-raising events efficiently and effectively for the camp. Your most beloved baby brother becomes ill. What at first seems like a normal childhood sickness does not go away or get better after a few days. After visiting doctor after doctor and numerous specialists, none of whom can give you a diagnosis or guidance on how to help him, you feel hopeless. You watch helplessly while your brother continues to get sicker and sicker. You begin to fear for his life. What would you do? Whom would you turn to? For many, the answer is St. Jude Children’s Hospital. St. Jude Children’s Hospital is a non-profit ‘pediatric treatment and research facility... [that] completely changed how the world treats children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases” (About St. Jude). St. Jude Children’s Hospital offers vital hope to many children who were considered lost causes. Summer Wilson is one such example. Summer was a five-week old preemie infant with a very rare cancer. Summer’s doctors did not have any answers for her condition. Summer’s mother Deanna Wilson remembers, “The best case scenario that we were given was to take [Summer] home and love her… she’s not going to make it” (Stump). This was the cataclysmic and devastating consensus of the local doctors. Miraculously, Summer did make it; St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital saved her. Summer is now seventeen years old and thriving, because St Jude’s saved her when others could not. St. Jude Children’s Hospital touches many lives, not just of the children it treats, but also the families who love these children, and the communities these families come from. St Jude Children’s Hospital is an amazing story of love, inspiration, and leadership. Today, I will examine five key pillars of leadership as they specifically relate to this orga...
One, Marcel presented fifteen years of experience as a manager of a local utility company. This particular factor made her accountable towards all the business knowledge, organizational skills, and years of experience in the for-profit sector; traits that are highly valuable and transferable for a management position in the third sector. Second, the board members realized her involvement with nonprofit organizations; Marcel volunteered with various agencies and served as a board member
When deciding on which non-profit organization to give resources to, a person must think of a number of questions that need to be answered in which to choose a certain one. The most pertinent of these questions is the one that asks which cause the person cares about the most. The problem, for a majority of the population, is that they just do not know what they truly care about. That is why the United Way is the best option for donations. The United way does not focus on one specific, but instead works for a variety of different causes focused on fixing some of the different problems inside of the United States. The United Way is an organization, which envisions a world where all individuals and families achieve their human potential through education, income stability and healthy lives. It plans to do this by improving lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities around the world to advance the common good. The United Way needs money and time in order to achieve some of these goals. This essay will explain why the United Way is the best organization to give ones resources to.

...be used for good just as much as it can be twisted for evil. The Sorrows of Young Werther is not the first example of copy-cat suicide nor is it the last but like The Catcher in the Rye it became a cultural phenomenon that influenced an entire generation of young people. It later influenced numerous psychological studies that opened up the discussion for the role media plays in sensationalizing suicide. What we have learned is in three separate cases is that the media prompted up an icon not only in life but after their death. Regardless of the background, books, television, movies, or music, these people touched peoples’ lives, but unfortunately it was done the wrong way. While we may not be able to fix what has happened we certainly can learn from it and change how we as well as the media handle suicides in the future and realize the power words really do have.
He notes two instances of men who were planning on committing suicide who, once they were able to find meaning in their lives and their futures, were able to find the will to live. For one of the men, this was his child waiting for him in a foreign country, for the other it was finishing his life’s work (79). Clearly, discovering meaning in their lives aided them in surviving the suffering that they faced.
This organization needs to change its way of thinking and think on a larger scale. The values of the organization are strong dedication to servicing youth and families in need.

Saleem Hylton and Ivy Hylton (his wife) and their leadership model for the AAMA is rooted in CRS initiatives and social change. The impact to the organization’s profits has consistently increased due to the organization’s popularity and positive image in the community. The residents and business owners donate to AAMA and some allow the use of their facilities off hours to use for activities or meetings sponsored by AAMA. In addition, the local officials are also more likely to donate and approve government grant opportunities for AAMA because they have consistently exhibited integrity in how they conduct fundraisers and their method of the disbursement of all awards funneled back into the communities. This approach to leadership is a process and not just a property of the positional person in charge of the organization. That is essential to make this a better world and that society works together effectively in collaboration towards a common purpose. The goal of incorporating CSR initiatives in any organization is to create positive social change. However, the leadership behind such initiatives would need to be socially responsible leaders (Shani, 2009) to properly implement and maintain CRS within an organization with their employees, environment and the communities around them. It is that approach to leadership that treats all those things very preciously and as a
“Suicide is not chosen; it happens when pain exceeds resources for coping with pain” (I-10). Ending a life is a big step in the wrong direction for most. Suicide is the killing of oneself. Suicide happens every day, and every day a family’s life changes. Something needs to be done to raise awareness of that startling fact.
