Less Homework for Students.
Ring! Ring! “School is already done with and my homework is not done.” “I am going to be so busy tonight, what am I going to do?” said Jordan. Students enjoy the nights they have less or no homework because they can get overwhelmed and stressed with too much of it, or it takes up too much of their time, and they also sometimes get too caught up in how much homework they have, they forget how to do it. However, some people believe that there should be homework in school. There should be less homework for students.
First, students should have less homework because students can be overwhelmed and stressed with too much homework. “The big amount of work is incredibly frightening and often causes students to give up before they even try.” (Kardamis 4) This quote shows, that homework is

“Especially if the work is busywork, and especially if the student is already overwhelmed or if they don’t know how to do it correctly.” (Kardamis 3) This quote says that is students get a lot of hard work, there is a chance that the students do not know how to do the work correctly. “Students look at their worksheets of homework and put themselves down because they don’t think they can do it.” (Kardamis 4) students do not believe in themselves to do their homework correctly. “Kids should be outdoors having the times of their lives, not sitting inside struggling to get their homework done.” (Wallace 2) Kids do not want to be indoors with doing any homework, they want to be staying active outdoors. Students do not want to struggle with their homework, they want to be done with it and move on to be more active. For all of these reasons, if anyone has anything to say about students not having enough homework, they should talk to parents and teachers. If there is a problem with being totally stressed, that can be prevented with less homework and talking it out with their
More than 70 percent of students have said that they have stress caused by homework
A problem with elementary students having homework is that their parents end up doing it just to get it over with. According to today.com there was a rule established by the National Education Association that limits the amount of homework any age kid, especially elementary should have to do. This is called “the 10 minute rule.” Kindergarten students should not get homework but first graders gets 10 minutes, second graders gets 20 and so on. This rule has been broken by teachers giving kindergarten students almost as much homework as a third grader should have. Because this rule is so often broken, parents are forced to step in and help their kids so they don’t look back on their life as all I did was homework.
When you think about school one of the first things that pops into people’s mind is homework. Basically if you have asked your parents or your grandparents they would say that they remember the homework load. Now we all know that homework can be beneficial but also can be very unhealthy with all of the stress that it causes. Over the years the homework load has increased because of the fact that schools think that they need to try to keep up with other countries in academics. And will doing all of this homework now be all for nothing later? The homework load has increased these past couple of years and it is causing a lot of stress on kids and overall is not helping their academics in the long run.
This is what goes through the head of a teenage girl after a tough day at school. Teachers are giving out assignments left and right and she doesn’t know what to do. She is already working hard trying to do a sport, maintain a part-time job, care for her household, and have fun with the little time she has to herself. She says homework just adds to her stress and she doesn’t think she can keep this up any more. Although it may seem harmless, too much homework can affect a student’s performance in school, cause depression and anxiety, it gives teachers more work, and to a certain extent, it isn’t necessary.
In conclusion, homework is a waste of time. Time that can be better spent is with family and having fun participating in extracurricular activities. Eliminating homework allows students the reward of free time and the invaluable time spent with family. Homework creates unnecessary stress and strain for parents and students alike. Also, homework allows teachers to pawn off their own teaching responsibilities to students and parents with hours of homework. Homework is not beneficial and it should be banned for students Kindergarten thru 8th grade.
Have you ever wanted to just shred up your homework or throw it out the window and have no consequences? Kids are assigned daily homework from the time they start kindergarten at the ripe young age of five. Is it really necessary? Does it even help better learning or even higher test scores? The amount of homework we do wastes time, money, paper, and trees because it’s practically the exact same thing we did in class that day. Homework causes kid’s and teen’s frustration, tiredness, little time for other activities and possibly even a loss of interest in their education. It also keeps everyone up; it has kids and teens staying up until they finish it, the parents trying to help them and the teachers grading it. So, I think that homework is a waste and kids and teens should choose whether they want to do their homework for extra credit and practice or not.
Most teachers would think that more homework is something that students should deserve. They believe that homework will make them get better grades, and even a better life. That it will inspire and motivate them to put more effort into what their dream career. But, what if all that isn’t true? What if more homework just decreases a student’s grade, and makes them want to quit life?
Excessive homework causes students to give up time with their loved ones and activities, and that could lead to social problems. The stress, the lack of sleep, and even depression are only some of the health effects that large amounts of homework can cause students. After two hours of homework, it can start to be counterproductive, which makes it lose its purpose. Some people might disagree that large amounts of homework is bad, but in reality it has more negative effects than positive. Now is the time to quit the large homework loads and make a change for the better learning, health, and social life of the
We all know that some kids have difficulty doing homework, either because they don’t know it or they just don’t want to do it. Some of the kids at this school they do the homework, but when they do it they stay up all night. So when they go to school the next day they don’t want to do anything, or they sleep during class. When they sleep during class the teachers get mad at them. When the teachers yell at their students because they are not paying attention in class. Students should be learning in school, and giving your mind a break. When we get home from school all we want to do is either eat or go on Netflix and YouTube.
I want to start out talking about stress. Elementary students should not be stressed out at such a young age, especially over homework. This is a statement from a group of experts at the University of Pittsburgh saying, “Early exposure to violence and stress not only can affect children's mental and social development during their formative years, it also can increase the risk of alcoholism, illicit drug use, adult depression, anxiety and even heart disease much later in life, according to a leading specialist on stress and resilience.” I totally believe this. Young minds aren’t made for
Homework is way to stressful for kids who already have enough to do at school, so why give them work to do at home that just adds on to the headache Known as work? Teachers give out homework because they think it is helping kids education. What they don’t know is that the work they are giving out just overwhelms students who don’t know how to do that work. It also means that some students could possibly be getting bad grades for things that they don’t understand. This is very important to my claim because if we have less homework none of these things will happen to students who don’t understand the topic. What can take more experienced students 5-10 minutes can take others longer time periods to complete the work given. giving students less homework you should receive better quality homework. That paragraph should
Students are bombarded with hours of homework every night and it interferes with their lives. They are tired of staying up late at night to finish their homework or a paper that is due the next day. They should not have this workload that they have every night because they also have to live their childhood. Life is too short to be staying up until 11:00 because of schoolwork. Homework is unhealthy for students and it is not academically beneficial for them.
Dear Dr. Knight, I am arguing about teachers assigning fewer homework tasks. I state this because we students have other activities to do, us students need more sleep, and too much homework could be harmful to the health. Students think teachers are assigning too much homework, and I have done some research on it. As part of my research, I took a survey, and when I completed it, my stats showed that 86% of the people I inspected as part of my survey, wanted "fewer homework tasks". Although most of the class community wanted fewer homework assignments, a large amount of my classmates said that they were mostly talking about the amount of middle and high school homework than the amount of elementary school homework.
Students today are complaining everyday about the stresses they face with balancing school work and home life. This is due to an increase in homework over the years which have not been very beneficial for children or their family. The amount of homework that students are receiving is more of a detriment than a help to them as it is causing undue stress and hindering their ability to learn to their full potential. In order for students to do their best in school and have an interest in learning, there need to be significant changes on the amount of homework given out each week. Lowering homework amounts will lower students’ stress levels and raise their interest in learning material.
Homework has been around since the establishment of the first schools located in the original thirteen colonies. Every student understands what it means when a teacher assigns homework; it usually means hours of the student’s free time spent on school work and not enough time to spend with their friends or even with their families. Many teachers have the mind set that homework allows students to practice the subject they learned in class. Recently, researchers have found evidence to show that homework has caused more trouble than help to students. Homework should be substantially reduced because of the physical, social, and academic deficiencies it has brought to students.
