Why students should join College organizations
College is a new experience for students. It is the point of a student’s life where they officially learn how to be an adult. Many people will tell students that its important to receive good grades while in college; however, its also important that students join an on campus college organization. College organizations can range from clubs associated with a students major for example Graphic Design, Computer Information Systems, Fashion design. Or it can be an organization that holds their interest which could be Fraternities, Sororities, and Step Teams. They can be easily gained while in college organizations. Students can gain confidence, learn to speak in front of groups of people, learn how to properly introduce themselves, learn how to communicate efficiently, make friends (skills you need), and advance their career prospects (skills you need). Jobs want people who can speak well and if a student doesn 't have those well developed social skills they could loose out on that job opportunity. For example a highly qualified person may be the best potential candidate for a job; however if that person comes off as shy, can 't make eye contact, and has terrible communication skill they would not get that job. Now a person who is not as qualified as the first person but has excellent social skills could possibly get the job depending on what kind of job they are applying for especially if it is a job that would have them socializing with a lot of people on daily basis at place like Google. Students should join a college organization because it will allow them to network, it’s a resume builder, it will teach them real life experiences, and Improve their social skills. College organizations are available for students and they should consider them. The kinds of organizations they can join range from graphic design to actuarial science clubs. Students can even start their own clubs if they can 't find one that interest them. There really is no reason why a student cant make time to join
Greek organizations are debatably the most undervalued and misconceived aspect of college campuses. Most people don’t see the benefits that fraternities and sororities bring to college campuses and their communities. Some see these organizations as large beneficial clubs and others see them as potential problems. Many of the allegations put forth by individuals that discredit the benefits and good deeds done by Greek organizations are weak justifications for their removal from college campuses. Greek organizations provide campus communities with academically responsible students, philanthropic activities and increase community involvement.
College is also about the connections that you make in your major and with your peers. Sometimes I think about how America’s founding father’s intended to guarantee everyone a free education; not a professional education, but the basics anyone needs in to be accepted in society. Unfortunately, I think the standards have changed. College is now just as necessary as high school. Does that mean it should be free? This has been a quiet issue going around in America among our youth because they the financing of college. Lowered, yes. Free, no. College is a privilege, not a luxury. It is only mandatory to get a high school education for most basic jobs that should be able to let you survive on your own. Today in our world, parents put a huge emphasis on college and its benefits but no one is willing to lower the price or allow a full ride as in high school. Society wants us to go to school but they continue to raise the price which doesn’t make any sense.
The life I have had so far has taught me a lot about academic and life skills; from when I was about six to the age I am now. I am always learning and happy to learn new things. I might not know what I want right now, but I do know that I want something for my life; I want to go to college, so I could make the future I see happen. The history of fraternity and sorority was invented years ago due to the limitation of regulations on student’s activities and clubs. They are mainly known for their work and service within the community and campus. But the questionable act of sorority and fraternity impact on student’s education and life is the main concern. The commitment and dedication of members within sorority and fraternity overtakes majority of student’s life. The skills that I am referring to are Oral and Written Communication, Interpersonal, and Teamwork skill. These sets of skills have been identified US dept of Labor and other universities and learning Centers as the essential skills every person needs.
In college, I will also be exposed to new clubs and activities. I feel that club and after school activities can make a person more involved and give a person the right qualities to become a leader. Involvement in extra events has provided a balance for rigorous course study. With the pressures that college brings, I will probably want to be involved in many groups.
