I enjoy going home at the end of the day, but then I realize I have homework. I believe schools should NOT give homework. Teachers should realize we have enough work to do at home, we need time to ourselves, and homework stresses us out. This is why I think we kids should NOT have homework! When kids get home from school, they sometimes have to do chores. Adults wouldn’t like to come home and do a whole lot of chores (but they have to)! Why should kids have more work to do at home, when we already have chores? Chores can get in the way of homework and homework can take a very long time to finish. Too much homework and too many chores can be very hard to do. Some chores some kids have to do is sweeping the dining room, kitchen, and porch, cleaning the bathrooms and tables and doing the dishes. Just imagine how long other kids take to do their chores! For example, on “MathPrepa” it says, “Something that they could do in thirty minutes if fully rested and energized will drag on for four hours if they’re restless and can’t focus because they left seven hours of school to directly jump into three hours of homework!” What I’m trying to explain using this fact is that kids are tired from school and homework, then they have to do even more work, chores. Kids need time to themselves. On “MathPrepa” It says “Getting sun and exercise is crucial for your health. If you’re cooped up in school during the day, then have to do your homework when you get home, you’ll develop poor health. A much better solution would be to do all the learning you need to do in one place, in a short amount of time. When you stop school, that’s the time for you to play and go outside and get exercise.” This proves that kids Need exercise and time to themselves. After reading, The Case Against Chores, by Jane Smiley, I must say that I disagree with her perception of chores. Ms. Smiley states that the reason for chores is for “developing good work habits or, in the absence of good work habits, at least habits of working” (Smiley, 2009, p. 274). However, chores teach us things such as responsibility and how to go above and beyond what might be asked of us. As a child I did a lot of chores and had to grow up a little faster than some children, but I would not change that for the world. It molded me into the adult that I am today. Therefore, chores, to a certain extent, are a great way to start you on the path in preparing you for adulthood.
79% of American middle school and high school students take part regularly in at least one after-school extracurricular activity. Many students participate in sports that can take up to 4 hours of their time, daily. Homework takes time to do after school and extracurriculars. If a student goes to school at 9:00 and gets out at 4:00, then goes to an after-school activity from 4:00 to 6:00, they will come home and have dinner from about 6:30 to 7:15, which means that they will probably start homework at around 7:30. This means that high school students will be up until about 11:00 finishing their homework, that’s without factoring in how much time the students will waste.

Research has even shown that children who are physically active in school are more likely to be physically active at home, and children who don’t have the opportunity to be active during the school day don’t usually compensate during after-school hours. This will also help the students to feel more energized because the more your body works the more energy you will produce meaning students won't be so tired. If children were asked what their favorite part of the school day is, the majority would answer: recess. Why is this? Is it because recess helps them let off steam, or perhaps to help them settle disputes with other kids. Even though kids love it, elementary schools are starting to remove recess from the daily schedule. School boards believe recess has no value, besides giving youngsters a break. However, scientists have discovered recess helps kids focus better in class, as well as, preventing obesity. Children have an attention span of only twenty minutes. How could they possibly pay attention for seven hours a day with no recess in between? In addition to that, children are not accustomed to physical activity outside of school, so therefore, how are they supposed to stay healthy? With these two counterarguments towards the dismissal of recess, why do elementary schools still refuse to have recess? Because it is proven to help children focus on schoolwork and prevent obesity, all elementary schools should have recess.
Schools all over the country are considering, if not already applying, the removal of recess for elementary school students. Having recess has scientifically proven to play a substantial part in the social development of a child, their physical health, and the amount of attention they pay in the classroom. For example the Tennessee Board of Education says, "It is the position of the NASPE that all elementary school children should be provided with at least one daily period of recess of at least 20 minutes on length" (National Association for Sports and Physical Education). Keeping recess in schools could help lower the childhood obesity rate, help children to be more attentive in class, and assist in the development of their much needed social skills. These aspects are essential to academic healthiness and to your child succeeding academically. Removing recess could cause a dramatic decline in the graduation rate in the U.S.
Reasons why are because, Research has been proven that children need at least 30-45 of outside time a day. Secondly, some children don’t have pe or don’t get to go outside and run around and sweat. Thirdly, children get to go outside and workout, and some children like to sweat and run everyday so children should be able to go out and do that. To start with, children need a chance to socialize.
The parents are feeling tremendous pressure and the children think they can do something by doing chores. The ages six and eight should know how to do their dayley chores,They should not have to be reminded. Some parents throw chores in but kids need to grow up and and be able to do other things in the meantime. To begin, recess is a good factor in schools is it can increase the capability of children to become friendly and have more sociable skills. Recess in middle schools can also cause students to learn better when the efforts are distributed. This means that students need a breather between their education, so the mind can gather all the intel and not forget it. However, critics may say that recess is not a necessity in schools due to the amount of money that has to be put for outside equipment. Have you ever wanted to just shred up your homework or throw it out the window and have no consequences? Kids are assigned daily homework from the time they start kindergarten at the ripe young age of five. Is it really necessary? Does it even help better learning or even higher test scores? The amount of homework we do wastes time, money, paper, and trees because it’s practically the exact same thing we did in class that day. Homework causes kid’s and teen’s frustration, tiredness, little time for other activities and possibly even a loss of interest in their education. It also keeps everyone up; it has kids and teens staying up until they finish it, the parents trying to help them and the teachers grading it. So, I think that homework is a waste and kids and teens should choose whether they want to do their homework for extra credit and practice or not.
Kids need a break from stress, drama, and homework. The school day is spent in the classroom- of course, students need to learn, but outside of the classroom they can learn important social skills involving cooperation and imagination. Nowadays, students are spending more and more time with technology (social media, video games), homework, and extracurricular activities- we need time to unwind. Even if it is just fifteen minutes, studies have shown kids with a fifteen or more minute break are more attentive in class. One reasons I disagree with forcing kids to do after school activities is because of home work. Home work can cause a lot of problems like stress. Stress can cause many things like leading you into not eat dinner or sleep. Second reason for too much home work is the ability to not stay after school. Staying after school can cause the kid to have a low grade on its project and their studies and distract them in to a poor grade in class.
Homework is way to stressful for kids who already have enough to do at school, so why give them work to do at home that just adds on to the headache Known as work? Teachers give out homework because they think it is helping kids education. What they don’t know is that the work they are giving out just overwhelms students who don’t know how to do that work. It also means that some students could possibly be getting bad grades for things that they don’t understand. The chores should be age appropriate. As the children mature, the chores they receive can become more complicated. These chores should vary, in order to teach the children different skills and to maintain fairness, if a parent has more than one child. By accomplishing their tasks, children will gain self-confidence and responsibility. In addition, there are other advantages to giving chores to children. These include getting the children away from video games, computers, and television as well as giving them some physical activity, depending on the chore.
I remember being a kid and wanting to get off school go home and relax, only to find out at the end of the day that my teacher was assigning two hours’ worth of homework after being in school for eight! First of all I felt completely devastated, second I felt very upset. I always thought it was completely unfair to have homework, I mean when will you get to be a kid right? Now as a parent I absolutely despise it when my daughter comes home with homework from school. Sometimes I will have made plans to go and have some mother daughter bonding time only to have my child come home with a packet due the next day. Bedtime in my household is 8:30pm, school lets out at around 3:30 pm, one hour of driving in traffic to get home, homework takes around 2hours to finish, so that puts us at 6:30pm for dinner time which usually takes another hour and a half leaving
