Since the first day of kindergarten, my favorite subjects in school have been math and science. It has always amazed me as to how humanity has found ways to quantify the world around us and use that knowledge to do many incredible things. In middle school, I began to explore STEM and fell in love with technology, which I focused on in high school.
The most important class of my high school career has been “Spark! Technology Solutions,” a selective, district-wide program run by the Parkway School District in which a small group of students isare immersed in a professional environment, solving real world problems and working on client-defined projects and tasks for real businesses. Fortunately, this isn’t an accurate reflection of my recent academic trends. I began to understand the importance of earning good grades around the end of sophomore year. I was not earning straight A’s up until that point, mostly due to the fact that I was lazy and hated doing homework. One day, I was looking at my grades and I was disappointed in myself because I knew they could have been much better. After some self-reflection, I realized that I had been seeing school as a chore, rather than an investment in myself. Once I realized that my high school grades will affect the rest of my life, I put school as my top priority, and my grades improved dramatically. I want to be as successful as possible, and that means I must invest as much time and energy as is necessary right now into my education in order to have it pay off later on in life. As far as foreign language goes, I tried as hard as possible in Spanish, but I was never able to consistently earn above a B.
