Math is a subject has always and will continue to pulled my interests. This was because it was a subject that would lead me to a single unique answer. Once I started to attend high school, physics then opened up another interest, not only with math, but an interest in Math with actual application into the real world. With physics, it allowed me to see how math could be used to predict events. The classes that I have taken that has shaped my interests for my major of science in mathematics are Physics, and Computer Science.

Observant can be used to describe me as a leader for the reason that whenever I get put into a leadership position, I try to see the most efficient way to solve the problem or assignment at hand. This can be done by splitting up the work that is suited for my peers. For instance, at my current job I split up the work so that everyone is busy and then things will get done faster. Also, if the problem at hand is too much for one person to handle. It is better for a bigger group of people to look at that problem to figure out a solution. Moreover, being a positive influence can also be used to describe me as a leader for the reason that when I get placed into a leadership position. I like being a positive influence to my peers, so that our work can be distributed evenly. Such as, at my work I assist my co workers with their daily tasks so that they can move onto other assignments. By doing this we can all achieve something greater. Additionally, my peers have characterized me as a determined hard working leader considering that I am a genuine influence and observant. Being a leader could be a valuable trait for my field. I was never one to be inclined towards math or science. I always felt that English and writing were more my speed, and in turn I enjoyed them more. From Susan Jacoby’s point of view as shown in her essay “When Bright Girls Decide That Math is a Waste of Time,” this would not have been a good enough reason for me to stop taking those subjects in my later years of high school. However, I disagree. I think learning, especially as you get older and closer to college-age, should be about the subjects that allow you to thrive and discover yourself, not about those that you struggle with and cause you stress.
I've always loved learning, especially math. Math has always come easy to me. Science also has never been challenging enough so I took Chemistry this year and I am planning to take physics next years. Finally, leadership is an equally important characteristic I display. As a class officer for the past two years, my job is to guide and encourage the class to participate in projects and events. Even though many were hesitant, I showed leadership and encouraged participation. I also am a possible candidate for an officer position in Student Council. I have been selected for this position based on my strong leadership abilities, such as bringing forth ideas, compromising for projects, and speaking up when others will not.
I have always admired people with good leadership. The ability to influence others positively is something I respect. I have leadership experiences myself with sports teams and helping younger kids, but I witness leadership every day. Whether it’s seeing someone promote a school event or just being happy that day. Being able to inspire others gives me an incredible feeling because I know important it really is to be a leader.
A characteristic of a person who tends to help facilitate people to achieve a certain task describes leadership. By motivating and directing individuals, a leader tends to have a major effect on a group of individuals. Leaders can be harsh and commanding, but they can also be accepting and encouraging. However, both styles of leadership have a major affect on the group of individuals and the nations they rule, either positive or negative. For instance, an authoritarian leadership style is when one person rules an entire nation alone and decides what is good or bad for the country without any input from other executives.
Leaders do not just appear out of thin air and automatically start making great things happen in the world. A leader must learn from prior leaders or role models that they are surrounded by that they look up to. Not everyone can be a leader, only some people have the correct characteristics it takes to lead others in the right direction. Those who do great things, for example volunteering at a homeless shelter, are not leaders. Many people mistake a “great person” as being a leader, which is completely incorrect (Kouzes and Posner, p. 3). While playing an active role in your community is a positive thing it does not make someone a leader of that community. All leaders have a group of people they have inspiration too and that is a good way of determining who your personal leaders are. My mother, brother, and grandfather are my leaders because I have always looked up to them and tried to mimic some of the great things that I have seen them do. My mother has always been an independent women with goals and an action plan to accomplish those set goals. Stephen, my elder brother, is outgoing and tends to have a leveled head when it comes to evaluating stressful situations. My grandfather is the most caring person I know and he is amazing at keeping situations under control in order to please everyone. These are all the qualities I want to combine into my own leadership style. I know I am not a efficient leader of these actions yet, but I plan on growing into this as I more on into my career, fulfill my set goals, and adjust to the curve-balls that life throws at me.
Like Kathy, I enjoy science classes because they're equally challenging and time consuming. I also look forward to learning new concepts and problem solving in my math classes. However, my favorite class throughout high school, has been psychology. Learning the basis of human behavior and the mind, psychology introduced me to current theories and issues in areas such as cognition, motivation, and wellness. After his visit to a Shell Research Laboratory, my high school teacher in math told us in class that he was so happy with his education, because mathematics had helped him to understand the explanations and demonstrations that had been given by the Shell researchers. He said, "If you master mathematics then you can understand everything." That was certainly an exaggeration, but it nevertheless sounded like a golden message. Since I definitely wanted to have a better understanding of what was going on around me, mathematics seemed the obvious way to go. Also, if it was not much beyond high school math, then it was pretty easy in addition. What could one wish more? So I enrolled in every advanced math class offered in our high school. Pretty soon I discovered that mathematics was much more than a set of principles that helped one to solve intellectual riddles. It was not a finished system that one could aim to master after some limited time, but it was really a way of thinking, a means of expressing creativity: endless, an old established science, but still fresh and with undiscovered green meadows, nearby and far away.
My favorite subject in highs cool was math, since it required little English knowledge and my least favorite subject was Physical Education. I would have never thought that I was going to hate Physical Education because usually that’s a class most students would probably like to take again and again.
Leadership is trait that is extremely important in any society. Leadership is known as the way people attempting to make a difference in a situation. However, I believe that it is better said to be a way of influencing others actions. Leadership is usually connected to a great leader that affected his or her followers in a dynamic way. Throughout the semester for my leadership class, I have expanded the knowledge in numerous ways. I now have fully understanding of the purpose and process of leadership to a society. Being a leader one must maintain an image of being the role model. I believe that this is leader should be who is someone who has the ability to influence, encourage, listen, and nurture. They are able to inspire, stimulate, persuade, shape, and have an effect on others.
As a leader I want to focus more what other people have to offer. I want to focus on what my followers have to say and what ideas they have to bring to the table. In a leadership situation everyone that is supposed to be involved should be involved. No leader should single someone out leaving the rest to sit silent. I should never pick favorites. I fall into a unique, more introverted and innovative personality type. Generally speaking, leaders are often expected to be extroverts. That seems to be the societal ideal. However, there were some well known introverts such Einstein, Martin Luther King, Mother Teresa, Nelson Mandela that obviously were successful leaders and innovators with a mission that suited them. I am motivated to lead if the mission has integrity and is an area of interest to me. Those factors feed my extroverted side. I like to improve systems and processes; one can put specialized projects and problems in front of me or ask me to create a growth opportunity and I will run with it.
