An African American male living in poverty trying to just make it out the “hood” is the typical sob story; but mine is different. I attend one of the lowest funded schools in San Antonio and still my grades are beautiful. I’m associated in school groups, the track team, Mentor programs, Leadership programs and also the National Honors Society. I participate in community activities, help raise money for my community, and involve myself in community work for hours. So although I may live and go to school on the poverty side of town which also happens to be the lowest funded school in my city; do you think that’s stopping me from succeeding? I will be the change in my community as I always believed I could. I plan to go to a Historically Black College to major in Business Administration with a minor in Fashion. I plan to open up a Males Club to better males in less fortunate communities; specifically targeting homosexual men and to also start my own clothing business with designing my own clothing products. I qualify for this scholarship as an athlete, community worker, In-school group coordinator, National Honors Society member, and lastly a student. I bring a lot to Sam Houston High School as winning Homecoming all four years of me attending, leading my sophomore as being the class president and leading young males at the Young Men Leadership Academy to strive for the best as well by following in my footsteps. This scholarships just along with any scholarship is to help me and help is surely what I need at this moment of me transitioning into my college years.
