An African American male living in poverty trying to just make it out the “hood” is the typical sob story; but mine is different. I attend one of the lowest funded schools in San Antonio and still my grades are beautiful. I’m associated in school groups, the track team, Mentor programs, Leadership programs and also the National Honors Society. I participate in community activities, help raise money for my community, and involve myself in community work for hours. So although I may live and go to school on the poverty side of town which also happens to be the lowest funded school in my city; do you think that’s stopping me from succeeding? I will be the change in my community as I always believed I could. I plan to go to a Historically Black College to major in Business Administration with a minor in Fashion. I plan to open up a Males Club to better males in less fortunate communities; specifically targeting homosexual men and to also start my own clothing business with designing my own clothing products. My aspirations in life is to be one of the next big entrepreneurs. Similar to my aspiration; my …show more content…

I, Hope Turnbull, am a Senior of Stockton High School in Stockton Kansas. My plans consist of attending North Central Kansas Technical College starting Fall 2016, where I want to begin my study of nursing. Due to me having all of my general education courses finished upon my college arrival, I have been accepted into the first year Nursing Program (LPN). I believe that I deserve this scholarship due to me excelling in my education at a very young age. My grades are earned as A’s and B’s in school.
Feel I qualify for this scholarship because I love to help people. Through different experiences, such as sports and school, I have learned and demonstrated various leadership skills. Being a Link crew leader not only taught me how to be a leader but, it help me have faith in myself and to always look up to younger people. I joined link crew so I could help our new 10 graders find their way around, and to feel included and accepted at their new school. For example during orientation in august I was giving good amount of advice to my sophomore group to be able to survive high school since I am a senior this year This made me proud and humbled that I could make a huge impact in someone's life. Another reason is I am good at organization and
I have been a part of Huntington North High School Football program all 4 years of my high school career. I am not claiming that I am better then any of my teammates or friends I gained through football, or that I have skills that make me more suitable for this scholarship. During my high school career I have maintained an excellent GPA, participated in several extracurricular activities, done volunteer work, and worked a part-time job. I feel like all of this qualifies me for this scholarship but it doesn’t set me apart from my teammates because we were all a great group of guys that were part of great programs. I feel that what make’s me stand out to receive this scholarship is my strong work ethic and my passion to attend Trine University
I plan to help my community grow as I continue to take on into journey of success. Leadership, has shown me the importance of having power and knowledge. For my future I plan to lead and stay true to my beliefs. In school I lead the young to not give up on their dreams. Everything is possible if your willing not to give up.
I am a great candidate for this scholarship because I have been an active member through my FFA Chapter since my freshman year of high school by participating in community service activities and FFA competitions. Without the guidance
I should receive a DCU because I believe that it will allow me to be able to further my education and pursue my dreams that I have. This scholarship will help me pay for my college tuition and classes. The college I plan on attending will be in North Carolina so I will be paying in state tuition and I’m trying my best to lower the cost of that. I want to major in art or architecture and I plan on working for a major architecture business of even running my own business. If not that then I plan to become a famous artist, I am confident in my ability to do both of those because I have been studying art in high school from the beginning courses all the way to the independent study courses where I choose my own projects. The DCU scholarship is
Since attending East Duplin High School, I have faced many obstacles, late night homework, and family issues that just add on to the stress of being a student. I have enjoyed my high school, but I can’t wait for what college has to offer me. However, have reached the recent dilemma of needing financial aid for college. I believe that i deserve the Mill Swamp Community Club Scholarship because I have worked hard throughout my high school career, I have grown up in the community, and with the money I plan not only to better myself, but bring back my knowledge from college and apply to my home community.
I’m a student at Tompkins Cortland Community College this is my first semester as a college student. I plan to go to college for four years and only be at TC3 for this one semester, then transfer to a four year school. College has grown around the world more than ever and more people are attending college more than ever. I have chosen to go to college because of the rewards after graduation. Yes it is another four years of school but by getting more education and an extended degree gives me more opportunities for better jobs and more money. The career I have chosen to study is business administration. I am hoping that it takes me to a great job managing a company or possibly being an accountant.
I do not come from privileged family, and everything I have, I have worked for, and I’m not just talking about material things. All of my accomplishments that I have been fortunate enough to achieve I have had to work to my highest potential to attain. I have been on the A honor roll for my entire high school career, I have lettered in Varsity Cheerleading for seven consecutive seasons and was chosen for captain of the varsity team my junior year, I currently stand as the Battalion Executive Officer in our Smith-Cotton Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps Tiger Battalion, and the Treasurer of

After high school I plan to attend the University of Arkansas and double major in international studies and political science with a minor in a second language. I want to study in these areas because I want to do humanitarian work in my future. My goal is to work for UNICEF and help children around the world who live in bad circumstances. I believe international studies and political science will help direct me towards that goal and give me the skills and knowledge I need. I plan to study either Spanish, Russian, or Arabic.
From studying Media at GCSE and A Level, it has always been an ambition of mine to go to a university and study a course that I love and believe in. I have a creative flare and am very innovative; I enjoy all things that involve journalistic writing, digital design, public relations and TV and film ever since early secondary school. Media is an incredibly exhilarating subject where there will always be something new to learn. I’m fascinated by its dynamic environment in which new ideas, technologies and techniques are constantly being developed. As a hand’s on person who has a creative streak, I am driven to work in an industry where I will be able to come up with my very own ideas and then be involved in developing, nurturing and executing them.
It is a well-known fact that higher Education is an important aspect of the oppressed social groups to obtain opportunities and capabilities to compete with the privileged social groups. I belong to a community in India, which was denied access to education and knowledge for a millennium. My educational journey has been supported by affirmative action policy and a few individuals who encouraged, mentored and supported me to pursue a doctoral program. I strongly believe that it is my moral and professional responsibility to contribute back to the society in my personal capacity. Research have demonstrated that education is a force and source of raising consciousness of the oppressed communities to attain development, social justice and social mobility.
My high school is ranked among the top one thousand in the nation, and its strong community support provides students with the resources needed to guide each and every child towards a path of success. Unfortunately, many American students, often in urban or economically insecure areas, lack access to the resources needed to be successful in the quantitatively driven society of the present. Many of these underprivileged scholars rely on their individual success to break from the chains of their socioeconomic class. Is it truly feasible for children living in poverty, those whose lives may depend on a successful future, to thrive as students of modern public schools when even the most privileged students are struggling to succeed?
