After I graduate high school I plan to attend the University of Georgia and later to become a Veterinarian. The University of Georgia offers an excellent Veterinarian program and I hope to be a part of it one day. Today to become a Veterinarian you must have a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from an accredited veterinary college in addition to undergraduate school and some jobs may even require a bachelor’s degree. You must also have a state license to practice in this profession. A Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree can usually take about four years to complete and are generally separated into two segments.
After undergraduate school you must get your D.V.M. You can get this degree from any accredited college. The best veterinary school in Georgia is at the University of Georgia in Athens. At UGA there are certain requirements you must meet to be able to be a part of this program. These include completing your application, you must meet the course and test requirements, transcript, letters of recommendation, and 250 hours of veterinary experience. The 250 hours of veterinary experience must be under the supervision of a veterinarian for it to count.

Some other requirements include having an interest in surgery and you must have been licensed in Georgia. Also you need to be someone that is very committed and is willing to be on- call during some nights and weekends. They conclude that you must have at least one year of experience to be a possible applicant for this
job. Employment for Veterinarians is expected to grow at an estimated 12 percent from 2012 to 2022. In the future the demand for Veterinarians is expected to increase as more people will need care for their pets. Throughout the years there have been a number of advances in medicine and it is only expected to grow as new technology takes place. The Veterinary field is very competitive one and job seekers should get as much as experience and skills as they can to make finding their dream job a little bit easier. Although these services are growing the amount of graduates is steady growing. The least competitive service in the Veterinary field is taking care of farm animals, this is because most people go into the service to work with small animals. I believe that the life of a Veterinarian can be very challenging due to the lack of sleep and work overload, but in the end it is all rewarding. In order to be a Vet you must have a passion for animals and have lots of motivation. In the end this job can be very rewarding due to successfully saving and animals life by correctly diagnosing them or completing a very risky surgery. There can also be some disadvantages to this job even though there is very few. Since you are dealing with animals they may refuse to be taken into your office, this can result in you being scratched, bitten, or kicked. Also the animal’s care takers may be very neglectful to their animal and you will have to approach this issue. You may also have to work very long hours in your office and may be a little burnt out from this job. Since I am so passionate about becoming a successful Vet I plan to push through all of these negatives by only thinking about the many positives of this job.
To become a vet tech you have to go through the proper education and training required. An associate’s degree in veterinary technology is required to become a vet tech and takes about two years to accomplish (Exploring Medical Careers). An internship may also be a requirement of the tech course (Interview with a Veterinary Technician). Along with the degree, the Veterinary Technician National Exam must be passed to become certified. These tests cost $300.00 and are 170 questions long. The VTNE also offers two practice exams, each $45, to help one prepare for the actual exam (Vet Tech | VTNE | Veterinary Technician National Examination.). After becoming certified, a vet tech may have to undergo on the job training under supervision by a vet or an experienced vet tech (Collegegrad.com).

For anyone to become a veterinarian, one must have all the necessary requirements for both education and on the job training. During high school, science courses are highly recommended. Besides having the education, a person must also indulge in some training both on the job and in shadowing experiences. Most if not all training will be completed in veterinarian school and will allow the veterinarian to start working right away. “According to the 2006-07 edition of the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Outlook Handbook, in 2004 annual sala...
Through my experiences, I have learned the reality of veterinary medicine. It is not about playing with puppies and kittens. My clients might not appreciate me, my patients might be difficult, I may get frustrated, and I might not make much money. Yet veterinary medicine is about more than that. It is a career with purpose, a lifelong source of challenge, personal growth, fulfilled academic curiosity, and opportunities to impact lives, both human and animal. In return, I offer a strong scientific aptitude, along with a diverse background and natural empathy. It will not be easy, but a degree in veterinary medicine is, without a doubt, my next pivotal step in

As mentioned before, college is not a necessity to become a veterinary assistant; therefore, no colleges have specific courses to take for this career. Some colleges carry animal science which could be useful in this career field, but probably wouldn’t give me enough hands-on training in this field. I could supplement my veterinary assistant training by learning additional skills at any of the following

Some colleges need proof of rabies vaccines as well as up to 80 hours of volunteering in an animal shelter or clinic. After being accepted in the program you will spend 2 years studying plus a 6 week practicum (hands-on work). At the end of all of this, you must pass the VTNE (Veterinary Technician National Examination), which lasts 4 hours and consists of 200 multiple choice questions.
