In order to be a large animal veterinarian you must have to complete at least four years of college. You do not need a masters degree, only a bachelor’s degree.Your undergraduate education should mostly focus on the following: biology, zoology, physiology, anatomy,and microbiology. Colleges and universities, such as Colorado State University and the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Science are well known for their veterinary medicine programs. These school are just a few among many schools that have good programs in veterinary medicine.

For someone to be a large animal veterinarian and do the job well, one must have a passion for animals. You must have business skills and interpersonal skills. You need a passion for animals because you will work with them everyday for the

majority of you large animal veterinarian career. You need to be passionate about animals because they are what brings home your income and that money keeps a roof over your head. It is important to be passionate if you want to get the job done right.
Business skills are very important because when it comes to being a large animal veterinarian. Business skills will help you run a successful veterinary clinic. Interpersonal skills are also important because, they are the skills you need everyday. People who have better interpersonal skills are able to communicate and deal with people more easily. They are more successful in their businesses.

So really no matter what stage you are in in you large animal veterinarian, your salary is decent. Education will make a difference in your salary. If you have gone to a really good school, and did well in college, you have a better chance of making a little bit of an above average salary.
For one to be a large animal veterinarian, you must be a licensed animal health professional. You have to be able to diagnose animals and help cure their illnesses. Your treat illnesses that affect livestock species. You cannot be sqeamish. You may have to perform surgery on an animal and you can not get sick over it. You might have to give advice on what to feed a specific animal according to their specific needs. Those are just some of the duties being a large animal veterinarian may require.
As a large animal veterinarian, you may anywhere from fifty to sixty hours a week. You will most likely be on call on weekends and evenings. You might have to give up the time you wanted to spend on other things, to do your job. And you may have to spend whole days working on just one animal. You will have to travel to farms and ranches far away from where you live, to treat animals.

As a large animal veterinarian working at a clinic you can get 2-4 weeks of paid vacation and paid sick days. Well trained large animal veterinarians are high in demand and work can be found relatively anywhere. This means that jobs are easy to come by and available everywhere.

The drawbacks of being a large animal veterinarian are the stress, and dangers. You might find that working as a large animal veterinarian is stressful. This might be because you are holding a life in your hands. You cannot mess up an operation, or give out the wrong medication. That could mean the animals life or its death. In this career there are dangers. These include working with dangerous chemicals, getting injured by an animal, and working with dangerous tools.
