I believe I should be chosen because I have worked incredibly hard towards my degree and will not give up, regardless of how uncertain my future in America currently is and regardless of difficult the path has been. I was born in Mexico 22 years ago, and have lived in America for 21 years, I do not remember ever being in Mexico, America is my home and if I were to ever be deported to a country I do not recognize, I do know that at least having a degree would give me a slight advantage, an edge I would otherwise not have. This scholarship would have an immense impact on my education. To be able to accomplish this while being undocumented I believe it would show that progress is possible of however many obstacles are thrown in our way. Even myself having just a high school degree has already broken the cycle of women in my family being forced to be submissive to the men their life. A bachelor's degree would be an achievement my mom, only 20 years ago, would never have imagined possible. Being an undocumented student makes this an even tougher path for myself. I did grow up in Woodbridge, VA, with a very normal upbringing. I always knew I had less options to pay for a very expensive college tuition than any of my friends I grew up with. I I have always known I have had to work harder than most of them. I applied to endless amounts of scholarships, all the while my friends just had to apply for Federal Student Aid.
