I believe I should be chosen because I have worked incredibly hard towards my degree and will not give up, regardless of how uncertain my future in America currently is and regardless of difficult the path has been. I was born in Mexico 22 years ago, and have lived in America for 21 years, I do not remember ever being in Mexico, America is my home and if I were to ever be deported to a country I do not recognize, I do know that at least having a degree would give me a slight advantage, an edge I would otherwise not have. Personally, I think that education is the only way to become independent in this world. This scholarship would have an immense impact on my education. To be able to accomplish this while being undocumented I believe it would show that progress is possible of however many obstacles are thrown in our way. Even myself having just a high school degree has already broken the cycle of women in my family being forced to be submissive to the men their life. A bachelor's degree would be an achievement my mom, only 20 years ago, would never have imagined possible. Being an undocumented student makes this an even tougher path for myself. I did grow up in Woodbridge, VA, with a very normal upbringing. I always knew I had less options to pay for a very expensive college tuition than any of my friends I grew up with. I I have always known I have had to work harder than most of them. I applied to endless amounts of scholarships, all the while my friends just had to apply for Federal Student Aid. In my first semester of community college, I was only eligible for out-of-state tuition, and that was the only semester my dad was able to help me
