I am Hispanic, and I am different. Being different is something in which I take pride in. Therefore I believe that the University of Houston is where I belong. This scholarship will give me the opportunity to study in the place in which I belong while achieving my dreams of becoming a doctor. I was given the opportunity to study elsewhere, but since I heard the University of Houston is ranked second in the nation at diversity; I want to study and achieve my dreams here. Through the multiple visits to the University, I’ve notice an important aspect that makes this campus a unique place and that is its diversity. I want to learn from a diverse multitude of both people and staff. People that understand me and understands where I come from. People
I am applying to Hofstra University because this is a campus where I believe I will continue to flourish both academically and socially. Hofstra has an environment of diversity and inclusion that would cater to my socially inclined personality and ambition to become a healthcare professional. Walking the campus of Hofstra, there is an environment of inclusion at every corner of the campus and within every activity sponsored. Among the different activities and opportunities, such as the Multicultural Organization, the Sororities, the Courtyard Carnival, and especially the “Bring Your Own Bear to Movie Night”, shows that Hofstra is fully immersed and supportive of all types of interests and people. This environment displays not only the various thought processes, but the mixture of students with an assortment of demographics. This is important to me because as I make yet another school
Thank You scholarship selection committee for selecting me to be one of this years scholarship recipients. I am honored to have received this award that will help me along this new chapter of my life. The Hispanic Development Fund Scholarship will help me tremendously to help me pay for my fees at Park University. It helps my parents and I to worry less about paying for college. I plan to major in biology to later get in toxicology. I’m very passionate about the field that I want to pursue. Without the support that this organization gives to many students many of us wouldn’t be able to have the opportunity to go to college to accomplish our dreams. I will work very hard to not let this organization down, my family and myself down. Thank you
Culture Centers in Higher Education: Perspectives on Identity, Theory, and Practice is a powerful and enlightening book by Lori D. Patton. Patton is a higher education scholar who focuses on issues of race theories, African American experiences on college campuses, student development theories, campus environments, inclusion, and multicultural resources centers at higher education institutions. She has a variety of publications and was one of the first doctoral students to complete a dissertation that focused exclusively on Black culture centers entitled, “From Protest to Progress: An Examination of the Relevance, Relationships and Roles of Black Culture Centers.” In Campus Culture Centers in Higher Education Patton collaborates with many higher education scholars and faculty members to discuss various types of racial and ethnic culture centers in higher education, their overall effectiveness, relevance, and implications for improvement in relation to student retention and success. Diversity, inclusion and social justice have become prevalent issues on all college campuses, and this piece of literature gives a basic introduction for individuals unfamiliar with cultural resource centers. This book successfully highlights contributions of culture centers and suggestions for how centers can be reevaluated and structured more efficiently. For many faculty, administrators, and student affairs professionals unfamiliar with the missions and goals of culture centers, Patton’s text provides a concrete introduction and outline for the functionality of these resources and also offers recommendations and improvements for administrators managing multicultural centers.

In 2014 National Oilwell Varco earned over twenty million in revenue. As a Houston company formed in 1841 it has seen Houston grow into a very large and diverse city. As the city grows more diverse so should the companies that make up our great city, but NOV is actually one of the worst diverse companies in Houston that has seen its fair share of discrimination cases. The Unit indicated that it is challenging to recruit culturally diverse faculty, the Unit strives to ensure that candidates have diverse experiences not only in their college classrooms, but also experience with diverse professionals in the field. The IR states that candidates, at the initial and advanced levels, have diverse field experiences and interact with diverse professionals in schools.

The world today is flooded with growing diversity. Having moved to different countries throughout my life, I consider myself enriched with diversity. Through my Egyptian background and my family’s relocations, I will make the university of Texas at Dallas more diverse.
The impact of diversity on college campus have continuously be associated with the positive and productive outcomes of students. Classroom learning allows the students to begin to see life and relationships different and directly impacts of the university experience. Diversity affects group work performance and individual learning outcomes as well. Learning outcomes can be given by the instructor or the professor at the begin the course work. It allows for the instructor or the professor to give guidelines on what they expect from the students throughout the course. Students should communicate and build relations with their peers and in this effort, the community will become more accepting to diversity. Diversity will be recognized by interfaith relations and this will further encourage students build new friendship on the lines of their similar beliefs and values.
ACTION: Including multiple voices on the admissions committee and initiating practices for achieving more preponderant diversity.
I feel that I could be a good candidate to receive this scholarship because of the commitment I have to be successful. My plans for the future are to become a Radiologist and possibly be a small farmer on the side. I strive to be the best I can not only academically, but also in my extra curricular activities. Being apart of so many activities has taught me to be responsible, honest, dependable, manage time, and has improved my communication skills. I plan to use the skills I have obtained in helping others and improving on them.
