I chose the Business Management pathway because I feel this pathway will be the most valuable to me, as it will not only expand my capabilities as a future business professional but also teach me skills that will benefit me in every area of my life. First, the Business Management pathway will enlarge my knowledge the business world. I am currently interested in exploring a career in business, so enrollment in this program will greatly benefit me by giving me a better understanding of the business world and by teaching me the skills I will ultimately need

I am currently a part of the Kraemer Middle School GATE program, one of the most rigorous academic programs available at the middle school level. I have maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout middle school and I was recognized for my academic achievement at the 2015-2016 Distinguished Scholars Night. Additionally, my extracurricular involvement sets me apart from my peers. My extracurriculars include playing the cello in Kraemer’s Advanced String Orchestra and being a returning, second year, member of the Kraemer Colorguard team. As a scholar and leader on campus, I am involved in the Kraemer National Junior Honor Society, the WEB program (Where Everyone Belongs- a team of leaders dedicated to the incoming seventh-grade class), and ASB (Associated Student Body- the school-wide leadership program). The final thing I feel distinguishes me from my classmates is my intense work ethic. I always place 100% of my effort into everything I am faced with, working my hardest to be successful in everything I do and to reach my full potential. When I am faced with a challenge I am extremely determined and I always push myself to persevere through. Throughout my educational career I have always excelled in the classroom. I recently graduated high school, being in the top three percent of my class, all while being a captain in the varsity football team and working full time. My high school GPA was a 4.0, and I received many awards, including First Team All-State for academics. Currently, I have a 3.5 GPA at UTA, while working part time and being involved in various school organizations. Over this course of this semester, I have learned a tremendous amount of information about myself from the self-exploration series. The results of my PGI (Personal Globe Inventory) presented me with a couple of different career paths to explore. The first type of career that was brought up to my attention was an enterprising career. There were a number of enterprising careers, but the one that interested me the most was business management. I decided to choose the business management because I am majoring in Sustainability and my focus is in Economics. I think business management would be an excellent fit for myself because I have actually done some research prior to this class about management. It’s incredibly crazy to compare my life this year to where I was three-hundred and sixty-five days ago. As a senior in high school, I was so worried about the future and if I would survive, so to speak. Here I am now, experiencing college and gaining a valuable education in more than just a survival mode, but in a completely growth oriented mode of thriving. Campus involvement has been the best encourager for my education outside of your typical classroom setting. My main involvement is with Georgia Southern’s Office of Leadership and Community Engagement. I currently live in a Living Learning community on campus called Lead and Serve. This community is run through the Leadership Office which we call OLACE. I am housed with like minded individuals who have a passion for growing their leadership and doing community service. We have weekly meetings where we discuss social issues and prepare events for the local Statesboro community to get involved in and for us to serve. I am also invovled in an organization called Southern Leaders. Upon completion of this course and club, I will graduate with a leadership seal upon my diploma. Since being on my beautiful campus in south Georgia, I have completed over one hundred hours of community service. OLACE has also provided me the opportunity to take non-credit leadership classes in Self-Leadership, Collaborative Leadership, Living the Change and other various leadership classes I have taken advantage of. Meanwhile, at Great Oak High School, I have been busy with my classes and extracurriculars. Academically, I try to challenge myself and go outside my comfort zone by taking 3 rigorous AP classes. At a big school like Cass Technical High School, with over three thousand students, it is often hard to shine throughout the entire student body. Each of the more then eighty five activities, clubs, teams, or groups is like its own cohort of CT scholars and this is where I make my mark. In my high school career I have spent all four years dedicated to my role on the Cass Tech Marching Band Flag Corps and also played my part in the Cass Tech Harp Ensemble. If you were to walk around the halls of the music department I believe my teachers would say I am headstrong, confident, and reluctant to give up. I have participated in the school’s marching band for four years has a member of the color guard. The last two years I have even earned a leadership position. From being in marching band, I have learned the ability to look for a bigger picture in things. For instance, something that may not seem clear now may take a true shape in time. I have also gained working experience through my two lifeguarding jobs from the last three years. I have learned how “size up” a situation and see how to properly deal with a problem. I have also learned, through both commitments, how to time manage myself and both achieve in activity/work and in school. In this program I, along with a group of other students, go to the near by elementary school to read to a class of students from kindergarten to fifth grade.

As our organisation is unionised, it is harder for managers to receive positive compliance from it’s employees as the reward power is minimized. Due to the unionization, decisions about promotions and giving raises are not allowed to be made by supervisors and managers. This restricts the amount of control the managers have over the compliance of its employees. However, I believe that my organization still exploits some power over the interest of my team members.
