There are several reasons which I believe why I should be part of the SHAD program. I am able to create and stick to goals, I have passion and experiences, I wish to challenge myself and most importantly, I want to change the world. When I create a goal, I try my best to accomplish it. An example of this would be in ninth grade math. An 87% is not my best grade; however, it is not the final mark which I am proud of, it is my journey to that mark. By midterms of grade nine my math mark was at a 72.1%, yet I was not satisfied, so I pushed. Right before exams, I had managed to bring my grade up to an 83.7%, but was still unsatisfied, as my goal was an 85%. After weeks of studying, after exams I managed not only an 85%, but an 87%, 2% more than my goal. I should be a part of SHAD because I posses the ability to create a goal, and stick to it, which will be important as I will be able to not only apply …show more content…
To change something, especially something as large as the world, I must change myself. SHAD offers me a platform to begin this change. Although my academics and activities are by no means stunning, I am passionate, as I am a feminist and equalist. By being a part of the SHAD program, I am going to be with much more accomplished people, but I will not become overwhelmed. I will, however, get to push my boundaries in order to keep up with, and hopefully even surpass some of these individuals. Throughout my life I have had many experiences: participating in teams like volleyball, badminton and cross country, competing in speech and improv contests, running a large majority of a student council initiatives, as well as volunteering at my local mosque and dealing with social situations such as stopping bullying. SHAD is a unique way in which I can use the skills I have in combination with the abilities of those around me to create something amazing; a tangible item, or an idea which may turn into something which will change lives for the
A large part of the reason I would like to join Year Up is because of the opportunity to receive an education and start my career in computer programming, without financial barriers stopping me before I can get started. The chance to receive an education in programming, a field that has interested me for as long as I knew it existed, is too great for me to let it pass. I have been interested in computers since I was introduced to them at a young age, and the idea of making functional programs has always been fascinating to me. More importantly, Year Up gives me a chance to receive experience in a professional environment and kick start my career. Without this program, getting a job in this field with no prior experience is near impossible, however Year Up provides me with the six-month internship
1.) In addition to excelling academically, Ron Brown Scholars feel a deep commitment to use the tremendous opportunities afforded them to give back to others. This is manifested in their dedication to personal involvement with the RBS Program and the hands-on community service work performed by each of the Scholars. A strong philosophy of the Ron Brown Scholar Program is that individual service on the grassroots level has the capability to affect great change on a global scale. With so many issues facing our communities today, what issue would you like to see addressed by our group and how would you leverage your potential position as a member of the RBS community to develop a solution?
Therefore, creating goals helps establish what direction I am trying to go in, and also allows me to figure out how to solve a problem. Another example is if I fail a test, I will try to examine the errors within my work; however, I will then create a goal for myself to make sure I do better on the test the next time. Finding the errors and creating goals to fix the errors makes me an independent learner. I am taking the charge that I want to do better; therefore, I am going to create a goal that helps me succeed. By fixing the errors, I then challenge myself, inside and outside the classroom.
I believe that in order to be a part of this program that I need to excel academically and demonstrate the characteristics that NJHS looks for. I should be chosen to be a member of this program because I display the characteristics required to be a part of NJHS. Scholarship, Leadership, Service, Citizenship, and Character are all things that I show and that I know I have. If I am chosen to be a part of this program, I promise to follow through as best as I can do. I will fulfill my duties as a member of NJHS and help others to the best of my
After joining however I quickly realized the difference I could make in someone’s life by simply donating a few hours of my time. The school children I mentor 2-3 times a week are one of the greatest delights. Many of them do not receive any one on one time with another individual except for when I am tutoring them. These children have such great potential if only their parents and other adults around them would take the time to see it. It fills me with great satisfaction knowing that I am making a difference in those who one day may be leading this
Goals give you something to measure yourself against and give you direction. Currently, my main goal is to graduate from East Carolina University with a bachelor’s degree of science in engineering with a concentration in biomedical engineering. My anticipated time to graduation is five years with a GPA of 3.5 or higher. Beyond getting my bachelor’s degree at East Carolina University, I would like to go to medical school and become a doctor focusing on prosthetics. In order to make my goals a reality, I will have to work diligently to remain on track throughout my schooling. Additional goals that I have set for myself are to complete homework assignments by the time they are due, reading assigned material before it is discussed in class, doing well in each of my courses this semester, successfully participating in extracurricular activities, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in engineering, getting a position as an engineer, and becoming a leader within both the engineering community and the general community. A world-class engineering student woul...
One goal is I want to see what I am capable of. I have a terrible habit where I doubt myself, and that doubt sometimes leads me missing out on life changing opportunities. There’s a saying that goes, “Doubt kills more dreams than future ever will” which really emphasizes how doubt is what makes us runs away from our hopes, goals, and dreams. It is something that makes us terribly afraid to try something new or make an effort with things. However, I truly want to not run away from that doubt, but to be able to overcome it. Even though I may be doubtful at times, I am full of determination to pursue excellence and strive to do my best in everything. For example, I want to see how great I can make my education be in high school. I have a strong connection and commitment when it comes to learning because it’s always a joy and experience when it comes to knowing new things. I believe that knowledge is one great element in life where it leads to the highest success, and it can only be acquired one way through diligence and effort. When it comes to my education, I make sure to not take it for granted and to never give up, even if it may feel brutal at times. In my opinion, I care what I learn and put towards my education rather than the grade given since with all the effort and work I put towards to what I am told, the grade follows. However, that does not mean that I am careless about my grades. I greatly cherish school and can be an example towards others at Rocky Mountain when it comes to setting academic goals and aspiring all the knowledge I want in my education. I want to influence others to make an effort when it comes to their education and see what they’re capable of. That’s why whenever I look at teachers, I see that they are sharing the gift of new traits for our education, for our futures in life. When looking at those apart of the National Honor Society, I noticed that they have
I set goals for myself all the time in many different aspects of my life. This experience was different because I don’t always take the time to write out goals. Taking this extra step allows you to plan for success despite barriers that may arise due to your environment or social systems. As a social worker I will be better equipped to empower others in goal setting and planning after going through the planning myself. Being aware of how social systems and the environment affect goal setting will allow me the ability to view client’s situations through an ecological lens, while empowering them in the goal setting and planning
“Success is not a brilliant strategy; it’s about a brilliant execution (Womack, C.D. 2003,10 page 48).” Goal setting can lead to success through motivation. Establishing what are called, SMART Goals is one way to set up motivation through goals. SMART stands for; specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and
Not only do we need to understand the ‘issue’ or ‘societal problem’ that many people face and are impacted by every day, but we need to meet and work alongside those whose daily realities are shaped by injustices, while not creating any divides or barriers in the process. Everyday people are affected by the issues that organizations fight for or against, and once we realize how people-centered things like advocacy, outreach and service are, I believe young people will realize their call to action and their potent...
By using the S.M.A.R.T. goal system, you are able to make your dreams a reality, one small step at a time. The first step in reaching a long-term goal is to understand the S.M.A.R.T. the goal process. Simply using the words specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time-bound can be a bit confusing. After a bit of research, I was able to better define the method. Using a S.M.A.R.T. Goal worksheet provided by Tatt (2012).
One who wants to succeed in life should have goals. As the definition of goals are the instructions in general to clarify the achievement that you wanted (Michigan 1999). By setting goals, one will have a sense of direction in achieving what they wanted. However, goals are often mistaken with objectives where goals have broad statements, general purpose, something that we could not touch and see, and hard to measure while objectives are specific and precise, tangible, and measurable. According to Bartle (2011), he stated that the objective is more specific, measurable and verifiable than the derived of goals. Thus, the goals mean the reasons toward which an effort is directed or intended become the result or the achievement attained.
When I create a goal I always write down whether the goal is actually SMART, if I find that the goal is not “SMART” than I add all of the attributes of a SMART goal to it. These goals benefit my life because it keeps me organized on what I exactly what to accomplish I life. So far, by using smart goals I have been able to track just how well I have been doing in school. Every time I complete a goal, I get excited to complete the next goal. My goals keep me on track for my success and they motivate me to move on to the next goal. It’s an unspoken sensation to feel like you accomplished
I continue to build my visual art skills and excel in my academics. Activism has been my mission since middle school. I have stood for things such a black pride and taken a stand against things such as poverty, bullying, and police brutality. Though the walks, the marches, plays, and workshops that I have done influenced my community but I want to invoke change. Through First Wave, I want to find more creative ways to grab the attention of the vast majority and bring awareness to a social issue. As future leaders of tomorrow, we are responsible in finding a resolution to the reoccurring problems that society has.
There can be no success without goals or targets. This is because success is relative to a set target and whether we have achieved it, or at least making steady progress towards attaining it. For you to succeed, set a goal, a measurable target that represents what you envision: that is what you want or where you see yourself in future. A goal should be measurable so as to enable you to monitor your progress and help you know whether you are on track or you have gone off.
