1.0 Introduction English is fast becoming the dominant means by which the world is able to communicate. It is being referred to as the global language as it is seen as a common means for interaction between different countries. This new phenomena can be seen in a positive light because the use of English as a common language brings efficiency and greater understanding. Growth and development are not tolerant of differences and English becomes a means for international expansion. A global language is a world language that is spoken internationally which is learned by many people as a second language. A language becomes a global language by achieving a global status which is recognized all over the world. This essay will discuss to which extent English become the global language due to the fact that it is both easy to learn and superior to other languages. 2.0 Easy to learn One of the reasons why English is easy to learn is because it does not have a difference when speaking whether it is masculine or feminine. When people usually want to learn another language they usually struggle with masculine and feminine whether or not they have it in their own language. Another problem that people face when they want to learn another language is the grammar. English is known for not having as much grammar compared with other languages. " English has gone so far in this direction that it now has fewer grammatical endings than any other language" (Trask 1999: 69). For example English is easier to learn than German because it has less grammar. According to Bauer and Trudgill "English is much easier than German because English does not have as much grammar". English is now taught at a young age to children in schools. English is learnt in all ... ... middle of paper ... ...e a widely known language during the roman empire due to their power. " Without a strong power base, whether political, military or economic, no language can make progress"(Crystal, 2003). There is no saying that a certain language is more superior. Moreover, every language has it upsides and downsides but there is no language that is perfect. Since, English is the most dominant language at the moment it is to be considered as superior to some extent. 5.0 Conclusion In conclusion, English did become a global language due it being easy to learn and seems to be the type of language needed for a global language and to some extent superior to other languages by economic power. Eventually the global language will be used by more people than any other language due to its crucial need. A global language is needed for communication otherwise there will never be an end.

These language variations vary and in many instances acquire different meanings and lexicon. World English is the concept of English as a Lingua franca and used for global activities, such as business, diplomacy and trade.
