Domesticated animals have always been a part of the family; however, when it comes between dogs and cats, dogs are the pals of a lifetime. With my dogs Rose and Nipsy following me everywhere I go, while my cats Leo and Luna nestle in their hiding spots, it’s no wonder I prefer my dogs over my cats. Although both animals are common household pets, dogs are better docile companions over willful cats and it’s shown from their energy levels, the amount of care that must be allotted to them, and their obedience in training.
When it comes to finding a fun and enthusiastic critter, dogs are the way to go. Dogs are very playful and energetic pets who require a means of exercise. Taking my critters on a long walk is a pastime we all enjoyed together.

Rose and Nipsy are constantly cuddled up against me where ever I sit or lay, usually taking up all the space. As soon as I get up, they’d either assume two things, it’s time for a walk or it’s time for their food. Dogs can survive with one meal a day, but I tend to split the food into two meals instead. Dogs have a habit of over eating or eating anything and everything that touches he floor, in other words, they’re great vacuum cleaners. Dogs also need to be walked regularly and a schedule works best when it comes to bathroom-time. In terms of grooming, they can get very stinky from all their outside adventures and it is best to wash them at least once a month to every two or three weeks. Cats, however, can survive without attention, being that they aren’t too affectionate. They’re very dominant and like their own space. Instead of hugs and cuddles, they prefer food and a clean litter box. Leo likes to sleep in his litterbox from time to time so it’s important that it always stay clean. Luna tends to miss the litter box and use the bathroom right next to it to spite me when I pick her up for a hug. They do clean themselves, in which case, giving them a bath from time to time can be tricky, but is often well worth it. In any case, cats simply do as they please; meanwhile, dogs are far needier, but their willingness to please pet owners and obey commands gives them more reason
Dogs tend to be more loving and caring than cats are. They love you no matter what whereas cats will scratch you or sometimes bite. Dogs help you stay active better than cats which helps you stay positive and healthy. They need walks and need to go outside to play lots which gets you going on daily walks and get you into that healthy routine. Having a dog starts a great positive conversation starter with new people you meet as they probably have owned one, own one currently, or they just think that they are cute. The topic of cats usually starts a negative conversation since there are not many people who like cats. Cats as a topic can also cause arguing between some people especially if one person is a cat person and one is a dog

I know the biggest discussion when you are about to get a new pet is; am I a cat person or dog person? I’m about to solve your confusion. 62% of United States homes have at least one pet. Overall, homes that claim to have pets 78 million of them are dogs and 86 million are cats. These numbers are misleading, according to a survey in the Reader’s Digest 41% identified that they were cat people where as 74% were dog people (Reader’s Digest). My sister is a major dog person she can’t live without them some days. Her latest addition to the family is a Vizsla puppy named toby. According to her the nick name of this breed is a Velcro dog, it’s loyal to a fault and whimpers at the sight of you walking away. Then my mom would never admit it but I think she is a cat person. I am sure of this by her loving nature, and sometimes individual attitude. To be completely honest, I am a little of both. I have an Australian cattle dog which is the most adorable lovable herding dog that looks like a little dingo. On the other hand, I have a tabby cat that loves to curl up with me in front of a fireplace with a good book.
Dogs, without a doubt, are better than cats. For thousands of years this point has been proven, time and time again. We hear about amazing things that dogs do everyday for people across the globe, but the question is, what do you hear about cats? The fact of the matter is, cats suck. Cats have been and always will be selfish, arrogant, greedy, and self centered jerks. Dogs, however, will continue to forever be loyal, devoted, true, and selfless. While both cats and dogs have their own purposes in life, whether it be love or playfulness, dogs portray what the definition of a true best friend is, and cats portray what the perfect enemy is, terrible and atrocious.
Dogs are better than cats because they are easier to train, they are protective, they are easier to adapt, and they are active.
The high demands that are placed on pet owners when a dog is selected sometimes wreak havoc soon after it is introduced into the family. Dogs are high maintenance with an above average degree of time requirements that usually become a hindrance to pet owners in the early phase of ownership. The cat does not present these problems, which is part of the low maintenance advantage many pet owners seek. Dogs can have separation anxiety, use the bathroom in the home for spite when left alone for long hours, and usually requires lots of exercise which mandates the pet owner to be available during the day to provide the appropriate amount of exercise needed by
“A dog is a man’s best friend” goes much deeper than the phrase might initially imply. Recently many medical journals have begun to identify with the many and varied benefits of pet ownership. Men have always relied upon animals for work, transportation, and survival. As times have changed, man has begun to appreciate a different bond with animals. Gone are the days of animals running free outside around the homestead, for now animals are allowed inside and are considered by many to be an integral part of our daily lives! Medical studies have found that animals have a much greater intelligence level than originally thought. Through proper training and experience, animals are not only household pets, but also are becoming an accepted form of medical treatment.

It isn’t any wonder that many people want a pet, but it is also true that not every person really understands what owning one is like. Although it’s said that dogs are a man’s best friend, the more appropriate animal for a first-time pet owner to begin with is a cat because they are relatively low maintenance pets and cost less than their canine counterparts. Cats enjoy playing and snuggling with their people, but the truth is that they are very independent. Just think of potty time: “In snow, sleet, heat or rain – the dog needs a walk. Demands a walk.
