Why Do Students Get Paid For Good Grades

Paying students for good grades help motivate them to do better in school. But is it ideal? According to “The Blade: Toledo Ohio” article, “Giving money for grades puts more stress on a child. Any failure to achieve better grades results in two disappointments: not getting the desired grades and not receiving the anticipated monetary reward.” As stated in the quote, paying students for good grades is NOT ideal. It not only puts more stress on a child, but it also ruins the purpose of learning. Students start coming to school just for money, and not for an education. From practical problems in classrooms, to ruining a child’s internal drive to succeed, and negatively affecting students in the long run, paying students for good grades is a bad idea.

To begin with, students should not be paid for good grades, because it leads to practical problems in classrooms. According to the NEA article,”Many teachers also say paying students for grades leads to practical problems in their classrooms, including pressure to inflate grades, and conflict with students and parents.” This tells us that when kids get bad grades, they are disappointed because they don’t get any money. Not only that, but this can lead to conflicts with students because some mya get money while others don’t.

A child’s internal drive to succeed is far more important in long run than money.” This means that bribing children for good grades, isn’t a good idea.
