Growing up in Suwanee, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta, my parents taught me a lot about how to live and handle myself. I am lucky and blessed with two amazing parents who I would not trade for anything. They have made me who I am today and taught me the correct values to have a successful life. One of my key values is accountability. Accountability is a major key to why I am successful. I show accountability everyday in my life when it comes to my athletics or academics. I have a very structured life here at Georgia Southern and my golf coaches require me to be in different places throughout the day. Being on time to workouts, qualifying rounds, practices, and lunches requires accountability in myself and knowing when I have things I must …show more content…
Golf requires at least 5 hours of focus non-stop. That is mentally grueling and when you add in tournaments when we play 36 holes in one day that adds up to 10-12 hours in one day of continuing focus. This value is one of the reasons I am successful here at GSU and will continue to be throughout my career. I feel that discipline is one of my best values. I am extremely disciplined with my academics because I must be to reach my goal of a 3.5 after freshman year. Discipline requires you to make the right decision even when it is hard to do, for example, on Friday nights when everyone goes out and you must stay in because you have qualifying for the next tournament at 9 o’clock in the morning. I want to prove to my parents that I can handle the student-athlete schedule in a successful manner. All three of these values complete my top three and are all similar because of my want to be successful. Accountability, focus, and discipline are the values that will be make successful not just in college, but also when I enter the real world after college. I have one athletic and one academic goals set to accomplish before I graduate. My academic goal is finish college with a 3.5 GPA to give myself the best opportunity to get a high paying job in
Golf is a game of honor. The furthest ball from the hole must be hit first to try and get it in. In match play, if the a player gets a double par they must pick up the ball and move on to the next hole. In golf, a player compete against an opponent to see who can hit the ball in the hole, the least amount of strokes. The athlete must endure mild to intense workouts to become good at the sport. The most important aspect to work on in golf, is the swing. The athlete must focus on their golf swing to perform optimal swing mechanics. This is because the players consistency for 18 holes “depends on a stable golf swing” (Pedersen). While swinging a club, a person can work at least 16 different muscle groups in their body, so training these muscle groups will help their overall ability. Last but not least balance is another essential for every golf player. In golf, “...players who are restricted in their hips or shoulders start to strike the ball better if they downshift to 75 percent or 80 percent of full tempo” (Nilsson). Balance is a key factor in playing and being good at
My academic goals are very well delineated. I want to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Harvey Mudd College. Harvey Mudd
As a leader who views accountability as crucial to the success of my business, there are a few strategies that I will need to put in place. Knowing that if there is compatibility between what I say and what I do, people will trust what I say, I realize that I need to walk the talk (Johnson & Phillips, 2003). My actions must reflect the values and mission of my business. Bustin (2014) presented the Seven Pillars of Accountability as a model for building a culture of accountability in our enterprise: Character, Unity, Learning, Tracking, Urgency, Reputation, and Evolving. As a leader in my business, my responsibility would be to implement these pillars to the best of my
Ever since I was a little kid, golf has been there. Golf has been something in my life that I can always fall back on and use to get some anger out of just to clear my head. No matter what it was, golf has been my rock. There is nothing like waking up at the crack of dawn to get out under the sun to play a game you love.
(#11) Dedication, persistence and time are all a factor to accomplishing a goal.College students know that dedication, persistence and time are all factors to accomplishing a goal. It also can depend on the goal itself to see what else is needed to be successful. Many college students believe that dedication, persistence, and time is key to accomplishing a goal. Depending on the student's grade level depends on their dedication also.
Golf is more than just a game to me it connects me to my family, teaches me something new every time I play, and be part of a team. I haven’t been playing the game long but it is now a part of me.
Goals give you something to measure yourself against and give you direction. Currently, my main goal is to graduate from East Carolina University with a bachelor’s degree of science in engineering with a concentration in biomedical engineering. My anticipated time to graduation is five years with a GPA of 3.5 or higher. Beyond getting my bachelor’s degree at East Carolina University, I would like to go to medical school and become a doctor focusing on prosthetics. In order to make my goals a reality, I will have to work diligently to remain on track throughout my schooling. Additional goals that I have set for myself are to complete homework assignments by the time they are due, reading assigned material before it is discussed in class, doing well in each of my courses this semester, successfully participating in extracurricular activities, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in engineering, getting a position as an engineer, and becoming a leader within both the engineering community and the general community. A world-class engineering student woul...
My main goal is to get an athletic scholarship. I won't be able to get one though if my grades aren't good and I can't have that happen. Education will be able to help me continue to do what I love. I plan to keep doing what I am doing in school so I can leave Freeburg knowing I am set for the next few years in my academic and sports filled life.
College is the main goal of my life. It is a life dream to go to college to get a degree and get a successful job. Everything that I have done until this point is to get to college. During my senior year I plan to apply to many colleges and to take the SAT's to get into college. My GPA and SAT scores will be crucial for me to get into college. With college I will further my business career, making more successful in the field I enjoy doing.
Golf is arguably one of the most difficult and challenging sports on earth. It is an individual sport and how you play is dictated by only the player itself. Golf requires players to be consistent on every shot and every hole. But another aspect to the game is the conditions of the course. The course must be well kept in order for players to have an equal opportunity to succeed while also being challenging enough to determine who is a great player and a player who is only average. In June of 2016, I started a new job working at a golf course. Even though I had to wake up at 4:45 AM every morning to maintain the course, these early mornings opened my eyes as to why consistency is the most important skill in life.
Accountability mean taking responsibility for your actions and being answerable to others for those actions.
Introduction Golf Is About Mental Preparedness “It is a game of considerable passion; it is either explosive in nature or a sport that has the ability to burn inwardly, and tears your soul apart.” -Robert Tyre Jones Jr. (American amateur golfer) Famous, successful golfers including Arnold Palmer, Gary Player, and Tiger Woods are aware that golf isn’t an almost mindless sport; golfing enthusiasts worldwide and participants of minor and major golf tournaments can agree. It requires skill and mentality - regardless of the common misconception that to play a round or two, all it takes is securing top-of-the-line golf balls, golf clubs, tees, and other equipment, and finding a great golf course.
Golf also requires athletic ability to walk long distances for about four and a half hours approximately four to five miles per 18 hole course. Golf requires consistency, the ability to hit shots with consistent depth and aim. In golf, like in other sports, there is a proven correlation between physical training and improved performance. A 2009 study found that golfers who focus on their balance, flexibility, posture, core, strength, power, and cardiovascular training have better results (ProCon.org). Golf has also proven to be so physically demanding that up to 62 percent of amateur golfers and approximately 88 percent of professional golfers suffer injuries each year.
Values are very important they make up who you are and the person you stand for. I believe in order to be self-confident and in control of your life you have to strive for the values you set. They should not come easy to you if that is really how you want to live you life, you need to work for it an earn it. For my Instrumental values I choose ambitiousness first. To be ambitious shows that you want more in life, you strive and work hard to achieve a specific goal. Education is a big part of me; it is the foundation for the rest of my life. Without education I would not be able to accomplish my goals. Patience is something that I strive for everyday; I want to be able to have the ability or willingness to suppress annoyance when confronted with a delay.
Athletics Self-Discipline During my high school season for tennis I have had a lot of different things to juggle. I would have to play and/or practice every day and still manage my schoolwork while maintaining my above average grades as well as
