The play is considered a tragedy and drama (revise). Two teenagers from feuding families fall in love. A tragedy is an event that leads to distress and suffering. Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy as the young lovers take their lives over a mistake. Star-crossed lovers are a couple whose relationship is doomed to fail because of fate. Romeo and Juliet’s tragic ending is fueled by fate, the family feud between the Montagues and Capulets, and hasty decisions. In act three, scene one of The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, Tybalt’s hatred for Romeo due to the family feud leads him to try and fight Romeo. Shakespeare 3.1.63-4. Not only does this lead to both Tybalt and Mercutio’s death, it leads to Romeo and Juliet’s as well. Tybalt fights Romeo because he is from their feuding family. Tybalt’s hatred led to Romeo’s banishment, which caused Friar Lawrence and Juliet to create their plan. This ended with both Romeo and Juliet dying.
